THE THRILL OF THE PLUNGE*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
steel tracks twist and dive,
a serpent of metal coil
fear and joy collide
hands raised to the sky,
trusting the rush of the ride—
in thrill, our hearts soar
cresting the high peak,
the world drops away below
time bends in the loop
screams mix with laughter
hearts race in the weightless air—
then the silence falls
back on solid ground,
echoes of thrill linger still—
brave hearts crave the next
"What are you all quacking about?" squawked Reginald Cluck,
Peering from his coop, quite out of luck.
A drizzle had started, a timid, soft weep,
While others still snoozed in feathery sleep.
"A little rain never hurt anyone!" chirped Pip,
Whose splash-prone spirit rarely would slip.
He’d eye every puddle, a shimmering pond,
With a gleam in his eye, quite remarkably fond.
Reginald scoffed, adjusted his comb,
"Such soggy affairs! I prefer my dry home."
He’d seen the contest poster, a splashy delight,
But preferred his reflections, all polished and bright.
Then a gust, unexpected, a mischievous sigh,
Tumbled Reginald forward, right under the sky.
He landed with grace, in a puddle so grand,
A most dignified splish across the wet land.
His feathers, now plastered, his dignity skewed,
He blinked at his image, delightfully new.
"Let's do the chicken splash!" he suddenly cried,
As the "Mystic Rose" whispered, "Don't hide your wet side!"
And so Reginald Cluck, once a skeptic so stiff,
Discovered true joy in that watery whiff.
He kicked up a fountain, a most glorious spray,
Proof that a puddle can brighten your day.
She knew what kind of a girl went all the way on her first date. After all, she’d just met him earlier that afternoon. But there was just something about his face that made her feel safe. They arrived at Lover’s Lane just as night was taking over the wood-lined footpath. He opened the door for her and wrapped a blanket around her shoulders. He held her close, and she felt the warmth of his body pressed against her. Her heart pounded heavily in anticipation. An hour later, he drove off to another town looking for his next victim.
Wolves in sheep’s clothing
they will promise you the moon
then rip out your heart
Is the vessel of hope
Love beckons, let’s take the plunge
but first dark desires expunge,
lest cravings lead us astray
and our soul, we so betray.
If pure joy we wish to find,
we must first rest lower mind,
rushing forward to embrace,
outpourings of divine grace.
Know love does not hesitate,
so why for then, do we wait?
Oh worthy monk, take the leap,
feeling bliss mists seep in deep.
Resting habit of thinking,
head and heart, with love linking,
no sooner we come undone,
our soul with God becomes one.
Immersed in fathoms understood
by only those who seek the night
I fear that sadness overtakes
and wonder when there will be light
This plunge, an unexpected course
as unexpected as a chill
So often, takes me by surprise
and always it’s against my will
It seems that just when sun sits high
and clouds have sailed so far away
That waves of rogue and winds of steel
conspire to submerge my day
And yet, though sunken by this storm
I still find thoughts to rearrange
As hope still floats at every turn
in knowing that this too will change
This spectacular location.
Keep looking for grace.
Always and continually.
All of us noted the creative ideas.
That brings a sense of joy.
These are my main worries.
That halts your progress.
Making up for the emptiness.
Let the thinker thinking rest
thoughts spawned at ego’s behest,
to feel God’s touch intimate ~
bliss beats that do not abate.
To set soul here and now free,
take refuge under love’s tree,
whose roots grow within our heart,
deeming all one, none apart.
Quit mind battles, which we wage.
Quell desires, that within rage.
Allow silence right of way,
whereupon, life becomes play.
Drop expectation
and hesitation;
thus ego’s destroyed,
plunge into the void!
When all seeking ends,
and will to God bends,
love grants her consent,
for our soul’s ascent.
It’s through surrender,
that unfolds wonder
of bliss magnetism,
within body prism.
Empty out each thought,
that we have been taught,
following love’s scent,
here and now present.
Dropping our doership,
when love’s our flagship,
no load on our chest,
God does all the rest!
Draped in the darkness of the night
In a weather so dull and blight
Sad thoughts like a deadly shooter
Come out to bombard her outright
Shaking off their fitful slumber
They rise from their inert stupor
From the reservoir deep, spill out
As through newly opened shutter
They come from an unknown hideout
As all trace of life to wipe out
Unable to block the current
She totters in a drunken bout
They spill forth in mighty torrent,
With a beastly force violent
Like an angry mob on long wait,
Infringing all rules, nonchalant
Caught in the vortex of that spate
Her body began to gyrate
She lost all her sense of balance
Her sad fate, no one could abate
Plunge in headlong, into the void
Trusting in God alone
No longer thus by ego toyed
Fears and desires forgone
Dancing to the bliss beat
Imbibing fragrance sweet
Love does one and all greet
Singing our song
Plunge in headlong
For years he held “I do” at bay.
He used to say,
"I love to be
completely free
“I wish you all the best,” he said
as others wed
but sought no wife
to share his life.
****************
Now he’s met one who holds his heart.
Their brand-new start
begins tonight
as love takes flight.
A steep slope.
Double black diamond
Thin air
Cold and getting colder
First time for everything
I am a little scared.
Never done this before.
Am I ready?
Don’t know what to expect.
No one does.
Short of breath.
Tunnel vision setting in.
Long pause before the fast descent.
With out consent, I’m nudged off the edge.
Taking the plunge.
Good bye.
See you on the other-side.
The desire to be struck by disaster,
Or it’s just a thought.
Nobody knows what the story of my mind is,
Something that even makes me haunt.
The impulse of being in a plane crash,
It is always on my mind.
These deductions will help you see
That I’m nothing but just a fiend.
In search of a kink in the smooth arc of life
With obscure sorrow.
Whatever comes after me
I’ll face it like there is no tomorrow.
For some kicks
I’ll plunge over a waterfall,
But when death peek around the corner
I certainly won’t crawl.
The thrill of sprinting on the very brink,
With some vile shady thoughts or
Curiosity to see whether I stand tall or
WILL I FALL?
See
Rapids
Life cascades
Stream of time free
Journey trail destined
Unwrap petals of heart
Love flies on butterfly wings
Sunburst sky colors dawn of dream
Sluggish flows river of contained joy
So, take the blissful plunge in sea of soul.
