The Country Club of walking death,
calls out across the ferns
The 1st hole starts with pain unmatched,
its traps to flame and burn
The 9th hole calls you back to life,
just to send you down again
The 14th hole, a dismal swamp,
your demons there within
The 18th hole where soul’s are judged,
double bogeyed with a six
The clubhouse dark, your blood trail marked
—devil carrying your sticks

i take direction
reckoning where
the wind might
wind up blowing
the alphabet that
i just threw
in the air
thinking like a tree
spreading supposedly
randomness but
knowing since
a sapling how
the pattern
will be
spelling
perhaps not
words in an
English tongue but
in some sense of
oak or
elm
i never rake
or throw away
but mulch for much
has been said by
when leaves
have fallen
and again
where they've
fallen for this year
the squirrels and
the trees agree
cold to even
freezing
but
not
a lot
of snow
and
i believe
them
amen
Build your home on the riverbank
and the river will fashion sticks
build it upon a mountaintop
and the mountain will make planks
place your bones amongst the stars
and they will giggle lightly
pitch a tent in heaven
and forever shine brightly.
Rogues start bitching
from their pitching.

The sweat pours down from tank tops and t-shirt
preposterously loud screams
explode on the baseball field around them
Drink it all in for a win
that's more than a glorv of the game
by those who long for excitement
and the possibility of league's trophy...
The raucous crowd of spring
flock together their arms
flinging outrageous signals ,
with high pitched hurrah,
as bats fly off to gaily rattle,
"Oh, my! Go get 'em!" when men
become boys of spring's home run.

By nette onclaud
three strikes is out
four balls is a walk
are you ready to pitch?
Near a house by the lake
on a dock by the shore,
a young lad would fish
for his family now poor.
He goes to the golf course
and wade's the cold lake,
to find the lost golf balls
then sell off his take.
He'll shovel your driveway
when snow's finally here,
and clean out your gutters
when rain's finally near.
He'll mow all the lawns
he can fit in a day,
he's seen on some farms
when their taking in hay.
And when night time comes
and he kneels by his bed,
he thanks God for work
while bowing his head.
He prays that our troops
will win these new wars,
then his two brothers
can help with the chores.
We all need his outlook
when money gets thin,
he's out there trying
he's out there to win.
