I called to the monkey who wore a pinstriped suit,
Found out the giraffe and hippo are mute.
Saw a man stare at a lemur 'til dark,
Like he was waiting for some kind of spark.
The leaves fell from trees, an impressive display,
So I waved my arms like I made it that way.
A woman made comment to me, "Don’t be silly,"
As a flamingo tapped by, all dressed up and frilly.
Sun-bear, lions, and kangaroo too,
A gorilla looked like he had nothing to do.
Sunning themselves, no care in the world,
While a shoebill gave my head quite the whirl.
A man with some popcorn meant for a snack,
Tossed some to pigeons—who launched an attack!
He zigzagged away, arms flailing in dread,
Yelling, “They pooped on my head!” as he fled.
A grandma danced by the penguin parade,
Imitating the shuffle those little ones made.
They watched for a moment, then gave her a glance,
And waddled behind her to join in the dance.
I stretched with a yawn, gave one last glance,
At flamingos mid-strut and a penguin dance.
With a heart full of wonder and shoes full of dirt,
I left the zoo grinning, my cheeks kinda hurt

Garage sales are fun but estate sales are even better
I love looking through other people’s incredible stuff
It is a great way to find that kooky Christmas sweater
To find red petticoats and turquoise jewelry for a cuff.
An album full of photos of people from the olden days
Paisley bell bottoms from the seventies and a fur vest
Classic 1940’s pinstriped suits in navy’s and gray’s
And a beautiful Birdseye maple homemade chest
I take a peek at this lady’s baubles, buttons and bows.
In oranges, greens, silvers, satins, and periwinkle blue.
She has left them behind in meticulously straight little rows
I may have to buy a few. How about you?

I laugh and I cry
And I'm doing it all at the same time
I walk and I crawl
When not bouncing around like a rubber ball
It builds you up to tear your apart
Ain't love a kick in the heart
Feels good.....It hurts
But it tingles so, you know it works
It's sour...it's sweet
A chilling breeze in the summer heat
It's seeing the light from a shot in the dark
Ain't love a kick in the heart
L.............O.............V.............E
Is such a little word
But it can teach a hurricane
More about the twists and turns
It's black.....It's white
Pinstriped...Checkerboard and Tie Dyed
It's far....It's near
A screaming whisper in your ear
It's a wishing well full of falling stars
Ain't love a kick in the heart
It's crude.....with class
Dom Perignon in a redneck's glass
It's fast.....It's slow
Gaining ground when you lose control
It's a Rembrandt made from crayon marks
Ain't love a kick in the heart

DIALING 911
towering building, dressed in pinstriped suit,
healthy, quietly dying. flying without web,
without wings. an abnormal workday,
smokes in the clouds. explosive wings
have penetrated upper office space.
God gazes out heaven’s window,
holds out his hand, ready to catch
each soul that lands on ashen pavement

Plastic clouds sherbet skies
meeting place of the stones.
You were too hard today
the way you sat there.
so I took a walk across the mind
of silly thoughts and memories.
A slither pinned in medulla,
a pinstriped boy pulled her.
The ocean drowned the Earth
as we watched the little ones
running for the backstage
forgetting all their lines.
I guess the beltway fades
as the cockroaches die.
We are the mind, only one;
a mind to mend the sky

Trains upon trains
Exalted trains with pristine potties
and stewardesses with snack carts.
Luxury trains topped with glass so
the first class can see beyond
the concrete shoot the cars shuttle through.
Trains upon trains
Avant -garde trains with scrolling neon signs in three languages,
Japanese, Chinese and English with velveteen seats.
Subway trains with oh, so, polite grannies
and oh, so, skinny men in pinstriped suits.
Country trains who’ve seen their better days come and go
with accordion hinged umbelical connections
and shiney beige linoleum floors
whose cars shake and shutter as the trudge along
trains upon trains.

Oh,
such seams can find decay,
In slumber deep,
cowhide chalices hold sway,
yet, this pinstriped warlord was
cut from dreams that tend to fray…
Hear: bible bound numbers flow
to land the back of heads
to stave the headlights glare,
we tiny solar flares as such,
so sensitive to touch are
placid, trance like true a year,
a sequence queue
to channel flow inertia’s demands…
Stand here now in Detroit blue,
amid the standard few,
stamped in black,
the paper’s stack,
a supplement so blue:
Your car’s been numbered,
Your car’s been numbered true…
Your car’s been numbered,
Its restless slumber dreams of God,
like you.

Men at work, bumper to bumper
tensile traffic, thick black bitumen.
Everything seems to last longer
then that grey granulated concrete
that extends from Bodega, Cali-
fornia to Savannah, Georgia.
Blacktop pot-fill smells like
the solid and searing work of roofers;
hardhat knuckle down workers,
men that stretch skyscraper towers,
or suspend themselves over
the ledge of the Golden Gate Bridge.
If only this endless line of steel
on rubber wheels could steam roll
past the frustrated flashing lights
and pinstriped lattes honking horns.
If only these orange jump suites,
(sloth shaped men on armrest shovels,)
spent less time blathering like this poem,
we’d all be able to get to work.

One evening I went to a social event
In the swamp they call Okefenoke.
When I tell what I saw you will probably say
That I'm lying, or making a joke.
I saw a fox in black tie, with a patch on one eye.
He danced with a bear in pink tights.
A formal dressed gator was leading the band,
In a tune that was lilting and light.
I saw a coon in a hat, a tux on a rat,
And a frog in a gray, pinstriped suit.
But the strangest of all of the things that I saw
Was a snake wearing cowboy boots.
