The Milling of Mind

Unrealities and realities
grind together in mortar’s mouth,
spilling, pulverizing, volatile perfumes—
succumbing scents of citrus, crushed copper,
musks of bruised lightning,
threshing thunderous throbs.

Instability incarnate sings her reveling wails,
fragrances of something
Beyond Name.

I guide existences into black curve,
severing them against sharp, obsidian walls,
letting them rupture—letting them bleed
—syrups and statics—
messy marrows of forgotten equations.
Their shapelessness mutable,
pliant pages to pulp in the plunge
of the merciless pestle.

How many combinations will one
blend and crucify—
to crush, to coax, into coherence?
Rasps of bone bend against sanguine salts,
sheens of opulent oil merge with ember embryo—
iron filings licked into life by tempests reigned.

Anything of matter becomes
moisture—mass—mold—
hunger pooling at my basin’s heart,
seething for impending strike,
for sudden and unforgiving
birth.

Beautiful

O' winsome, mirthful thing
Up, up, and out in spring

From the cocoon, you were birthed
Into the light is where you'll see your worth

A beautiful creation to the world
A bundle of magic that's waiting to unfurl

Now, out fluttering and uttering a new beginning
A fresh essence and energy brimming

Lithely through the air you go
Fluttering and darting to and fro

A quiet power and a mutable essence, you behold
Remember this as you allow your truth to be told

So beautiful one, make sure to enjoy your flight
For soon, oh too soon, winter will come and bid a good night

Confident of the beauty communicated

of regeneration in life that shows the way,
faithfully, knowing my needs.

Leaning Against a Cow

She is sitting,
front legs under her reddish-brown mass.
When I think of her shape
it is always her belly I see most.
The bulging warmth,
the mastication, her on-going digestion.

I'm a boy,
the large cow is my meaty lean-to.
One hot summer afternoon can last for years,
on one such a year
I was resting my back
on her bovine flank's, she did not seem to care.
I really think she wanted to feel me listening
to her giant belly.

A drowsy time took its rest also.
Bees buzzed, but far away.
High flying gees made the sky speak.

Listening to her massive body, I think
I melded into her life. Her ongoing
industrial mashing
of moist clods of vegetable materiel.
The rhythmic digestive process
seemed to me to be almost musical.

When she farted, it was as though
she had turned roughage to water,
and water into wine.

I could smell the spirit of the grass,
and strangely,
I could within my own small form,
feel the mutable mystery of the land
as it churned grain into bread,
our meat to spirit.

Worth Saving

Never be bewildered
That my instincts submerged
In the malevolence and
Dearness of the world
Could have been reinvigorated
By you, saved and renewed
Just like a resurging lep
When the latter opts out
I am created of giant solid rocks
Stationary but mutable
And you the damp feel
Of winter fur lies
Songs of fresh breeze
Declines as cascades
And my lyrics being lawns
Of undulating grass
Silent chirps and murmurs
I expected less but asked nothing
That deep undemanding tenderness
I gravely wish to offer a little space
To achieve my dreams in yours.

Premium MemberThe Witness of Rain

In a perishing forest of dry needles
Taxed with the fusion of dust and decay
In the times of climate change,
Where fire lay awaiting for its chance,
The first rain came
After many years of drought

Slight at first then gently falling
From a sky of mutable grey
The clouds gathered in communion
Painting a promise of what was to come

The trees stood tall and firm
Brittle in their height
Their roots pushed up from the arid ground
As though they were reaching to heaven
To touch the canopy of clouds filled with mercy
Raining down the promise of life

It was though the trees were crying
Plip-plop - their tears tumbling,
Echoing through the woodlands
Calling all the creatures to witness
This miracle of hope
That all had yearned for and abided with
These many thirsty years

Walking silently
My heart bestowed with gratitude,
I was sighing with the winds
Of thankfulness and change
My tears mingled with the earth below my feet

NOTE:THIS IS AN OPEN(organic) FORM VERSE using spaces&breaks without grammatical symbols ,the ' open' relies upon 'the one breath limitation' & so inherently requires the 'reader' (reciter) to input and responds thus making this enigmatic form a two way interplay & interpretatIon unique to the moment& changing according to mood is inherently variable.

Nobody Runs, Nobody Hides

Nobody runs, nobody hides.
The element of love may not be described.
Not fire.
Not earth.
Not water.
Not air.
It becomes all and none.
Consumed and consuming,
Enveloping, enriching, a hiding place,
Embracing, mutable, a thing of tides,
Vapour, the stuff of breath.
And yet we welcome it.
When it comes,
Nobody runs, nobody hides.

All the World Is a Movie

The movie bombed.
As the only screen-writer of his life,
he had been forced to reinvent myself many times.
Other movies came and went, stars shone and faded,
bit-part players infringed on his performances.

His last but one film
had to be edited and cut so much
that he could no longer recognize himself within it.

He liked to imagine he was fluid and mutable,
not stuck in any roll,
but an actor able to change his character at will,

yet there came a time
when he felt his heels deeply digging into
a well worn plot,
one he could not alter. A boxed in melodrama
that he could not find a way out of.

Stuck in an unchangeable reality; a last theater
with only one exit,
he began to write poetry.

Premium MemberDo Not Think of Me

Do not think of me; go on your solitary way,
search empty valleys or deserted mountain tops.
Or trek towards the seashore. See, the horizons beckon,
ever-shifting, changing, always fluctuating, mutable.

You sucked my soul away: I am an empty husk,
worthless, ineffectual, useless. Move on towards the sun
shining in the high skies but be careful lest
you yourself are burnt away to worthless cinders.

So do not think of me. Move on, be bright
the future is now yours, I'm merely just a past.

Forget me; I'm inexistent for that is my lifeline.
Maybe I'll find a loving soul who loves me true,
but only if you do not think of me.

Logic Is a Casualty In Their War

The lies surround us
Seeping into our skin like water
Uncontainable
Unstoppable
Unattainable

The words spoken, once silent
Now decayed in our hearts
Intangible
Insidious
Indefatigable

The orderly mind now deceased
Ruled by passion, and anger, and hate
Mutable
Dilutable
Corruptible

Floodgates open wide
Pouring the fire of rage into our souls
Mindless
Thoughtless
Kindless

Logic is a casualty in their war.

Children

We hardly knew we were children
When we trudged like soldiers
Through the new snow
As it draped the barren maple
Trees
Of the northeast
In a new winter coat,
We barely knew another world sang like
A mutable wind,
Beyond the phantom of
Small town madness
Where matriarchal rules
Danced like the sugarplum fairy
Right into the minds of its youth...
So,
Some of us hitchhiked out,
Long hair and guitars in hand,
Some flew to colleges out west,
And those that never left
Couldn’t believe there could be
One small bit of grace
In a new chorus of thought
Right smack in the middle of change,
So they stayed,
Just to be sure the four
Precise seasons
Still snapped into place,
And they too
Had children
Who didn’t know they were children
Year
After year.
