Leaning Against a Cow

She is sitting,
front legs under her reddish-brown mass.
When I think of her shape
it is always her belly I see most.
The bulging warmth,
the mastication, her on-going digestion.

I'm a boy,
the large cow is my meaty lean-to.
One hot summer afternoon can last for years,
on one such a year
I was resting my back
on her bovine flank's, she did not seem to care.
I really think she wanted to feel me listening
to her giant belly.

A drowsy time took its rest also.
Bees buzzed, but far away.
High flying gees made the sky speak.

Listening to her massive body, I think
I melded into her life. Her ongoing
industrial mashing
of moist clods of vegetable materiel.
The rhythmic digestive process
seemed to me to be almost musical.

When she farted, it was as though
she had turned roughage to water,
and water into wine.

I could smell the spirit of the grass,
and strangely,
I could within my own small form,
feel the mutable mystery of the land
as it churned grain into bread,
our meat to spirit.

All the World Is a Movie

The movie bombed.
As the only screen-writer of his life,
he had been forced to reinvent myself many times.
Other movies came and went, stars shone and faded,
bit-part players infringed on his performances.

His last but one film
had to be edited and cut so much
that he could no longer recognize himself within it.

He liked to imagine he was fluid and mutable,
not stuck in any roll,
but an actor able to change his character at will,

yet there came a time
when he felt his heels deeply digging into
a well worn plot,
one he could not alter. A boxed in melodrama
that he could not find a way out of.

Stuck in an unchangeable reality; a last theater
with only one exit,
he began to write poetry.

All in Harmony:

Confident of the beauty communicated
in it's essence, I witness a daily cycle
of regeneration in life that shows the way,
faithfully, knowing my needs.

                    ---------------------------------------------------

Thrilling and alluring
hazard, affection, zeal, and heat
all the stated above
crimson, as a rose, is a sign of love
at all times evolving
             when planets are aligned
             color doesn't matter
             because true love is blind
unseen for the most break
but only when glimpsed
mutable and undulating
colors are shifting
lasts only long enough
to be outrageous
          love is a colorless mood
          It is a heartfelt emotion
          our eyes grasp everything
          love stems from inclusion.

She hates frilly pink stuff
flavor, spice, everything squeamish
three sons and spouse
she shares blue but shuns others.
once drove a crimson race car.
young passion, now a yellow SUV.
        easy access and exit.
        deeply anchored, like her life.

Experts called her Autumn,
but what do they gasp?
to me, she’s summer,
colors bright and warm,
        at times a little dusty,
        like a sunlit kitchen.
        so color her something,
        it would just be opal—
a humble stone, but look deeply,
all the colors of the rainbow
explode from its heart.

When I am missing her:
I am just cobalt blue,
with emptiness...
when we are intimate:
I am a royal purple,
with happiness...
      when I am working:
      I am anxiously green,
      with jealously...
      when she is sick:
     I am indigo, with
      hopefulness...

Pleated, flirtatious hair.
release her loose braids.
with freckled cheeks.
She vibrates sweetly.
the furious downpour.
moistens dusty roads.
falling cobalt beads pitter.
rainy beat orchestra.

1st place contest winner.

Premium Member Do Not Think of Me

Do not think of me; go on your solitary way,
search empty valleys or deserted mountain tops.
Or trek towards the seashore. See, the horizons beckon,
ever-shifting, changing, always fluctuating, mutable.

You sucked my soul away: I am an empty husk,
worthless, ineffectual, useless. Move on towards the sun
shining in the high skies but be careful lest
you yourself are burnt away to worthless cinders.

So do not think of me. Move on, be bright
the future is now yours, I'm merely just a past.

Forget me; I'm inexistent for that is my lifeline.
Maybe I'll find a loving soul who loves me true,
but only if you do not think of me.

Premium Member The Witness of Rain

In a perishing forest of dry needles
Taxed with the fusion of dust and decay
In the times of climate change,
Where fire lay awaiting for its chance,
The first rain came
After many years of drought

Slight at first then gently falling
From a sky of mutable grey
The clouds gathered in communion
Painting a promise of what was to come

The trees stood tall and firm
Brittle in their height
Their roots pushed up from the arid ground
As though they were reaching to heaven
To touch the canopy of clouds filled with mercy
Raining down the promise of life

It was though the trees were crying
Plip-plop - their tears tumbling,
Echoing through the woodlands
Calling all the creatures to witness
This miracle of hope
That all had yearned for and abided with
These many thirsty years

Walking silently
My heart bestowed with gratitude,
I was sighing with the winds
Of thankfulness and change
My tears mingled with the earth below my feet

Love Connection

                Connections, how are they made?
Perceptions waved in radio, station identification
made, declared, paved.
Frequency paired by molecules in fertile atmosphere.
Staging place of communication,
treble, fade, dialing for gauge of reception,
from antenna atelier.

Or is it more romantic and mystical?
The heart's language is silent, yet profound,
longing long chirps of echoes seeking landing,
fuel and ground.

Or a Mirrored recipercipitation fog window
quench of thirsts at your looking glass,
dripping patternlayed at the seas of Captain's log.
Two souls entwined in cosmic ballet tile,
of spaces connected by tether of joy
in mid-minded-smile.
In cascading sheets.style.

Each touch a brushstroke
on life's grand ports of entry,
creating ripples that swell echoes in mate-ivity.
Plotting of rain-arrow shot from Cherubim bow, perch.
Immerse in cadence, lets spirit burst
forth in desperate Morse, searchlight or APB.
God's creative,
Love in it's art of state of statements to make
all inclusive in it's ivity.

A message of the realm, integrity does do all things.
Relative truths, stirring the connecting of Love's rings.
A chance meeting, a glance, a smile
conducted by hope.
The premise and sound practice of
a magic unbound
Pixie Eloped at Temple or Church.

A marriage of sacrament,
each intimate word a phoenix, in clement ascent,
rising higher and higher.
Capturing the essence, between
betwixt the ever'v'essence unseen, neural net router,
route of accented poetry on a reactive canvas,
true north, of raw and pristine.

Yet connections are fragile, easily undone,
like autumn leaves in the fading sun.
Though love is not a mere ethereal, flower,
or mutable material.
It blooms, it haunts, it wilts to self's crucifixion
within, a return of resurrection, of His imperial,
iCity, New Jerusalem, Ocity translation.
A Goliath Bloom sniffed again
in remembrance of reason, and the angle of
approach is immaterial,
inalienable, just seasons.

If Memory Is a Lie Then So Am I

Proust searched his brain for memories that
made the man, could finally understand
that this changed him just by looking;
so he called himself a sentimental realist!

many a prisoner, in walls cast of shadows,
have escaped their fate etched in stone
and bars at Guantanamo, where they
remade themselves in the language of pain -

the poetry of misery or bliss to relive a life
that past has missed, to rekindle themselves
in the alembic of desire, their inner fire
because of the lie of memory; I am frisson!

oh, yearning moment, oh, swelling into dreams
come of these needful things, where open
skies and open roads and open fields
are little sparks in open places closed inside of me.

when this lightning sings my body moves
with the ghostly touch of numinous grass
and forgotten fragile flowers, the distant buzz of bee
and echoing twitter of birds sound again inside of me.

inside of memory is me, thereto is the lie
where holes are filled by imagination, a story I call
myself where fiction and reality are hopelessly
intertwined, undermining who I thought was me and too, mine.

this albatross of original stimulus, this
verisimilitude of the incongruous, mutable
impressions which fleeting fly dead-away
fall into the deep error of my earnest loom; memory!

the act of remembering changes me, so a fool I have
become, locked in shadows, staring dumb, I shun this outer lock, sing my songs as they
come from now on, making me in my own image
                                                      unbecoming,
                                                            unfettered,
                                                                 unfinished,
                                                                        undone ...

Romeo and Juliet: Immortal Love

Young lovers living in death's shadow
Autonomous hearts bound by love's oath
Freely skirting the binding traditions that cluttered their way
Secretly espousing an innocuous, private romance that openly challenged  convention
Amorous compatriots plotting a treasonous tryst
Initiating a temporal rapprochement that yielded a spiritual legacy
Twining branches of two long-severed limbs
Brokers extending a healing love that widened a poisonous rift
Sweet incense of sacrificed lambs rising from the rancid pyre of conformity
Dispossessed of title and home, but vested with a nobler destiny
Accepting their perilous fate with a blithe resignation
Bearing a reproach not of their own making
Short-lived nightmare exchanged for an everlasting vigil
Distilling their fleeting time together into love's eternal quotient
Attaining immortality in the mutable literary discourse
