Monorhymes are fun for all
I just chased one down the hall
He did a tumble and a fall
And threw at me a tiny doll
The doll was odd, she had a caul
She did not come from a plain mall
She was tiny, pretty small
Did a backward cartwheel on the wall
Monorhyme next threw a ball
I think he had a lot of gall
He made fun of my wrap and shawl
I groveled past and did a crawl
Does he intimidate you? Asked Paul
I saw a nod from my Uncle Saul
My mouth made a tiny little squall
Monorhymes terrify me after all

From Manchester came a bloke
who thought himself quite bespoke.
His risqué pick up lines
were made in monorhymes.
He proved to be all mirrors, no smoke.

I let it slip away . . .
a beautiful beautiful day.
I’d looked out my window and seen
blue sky and grass so green.
Then back in bed I lay
as I slept the morning away.
At last I awoke but I had
my chores! I felt so bad.
Why in bed did I stay
and not go outside just to play?
By the time my chores were all done,
much dimmer was the sun.
Oh, why did I delay
enjoying this best day of May?
With joy I could have been biking
or on a trail hiking.
Wild flowers in array
I could have plucked for a bouquet.
In a cool stream I could have splashed
or through a meadow dashed.
No, it is not okay.
the glory of May to betray.
Procrastinating is my sin.
Sun could have kissed my skin.
With contriteness I say
I let a great day slip away.

*Happy May Day everyone! This poem is an experiment with a new rhyming form I created. It consists of couplets with alternating syllable counts of 6/8 and 8/6. The 6/8 couplets are monorhymes.

Monorhymes: monotonous, boring verse
Often thoughtless, constructed in reverse
Never flowing freely, quite the converse
Only ever poetic slime, coerced
Requiring at times phrasing less diverse
Harsh, all grit and grime, tortured, strangely terse
Yet perhaps not - one can find them quite perverse!
Maybe include acrostics, intersperse,
Embed monoku’d sweet rhymes when traversed?
Surprisingly, a sublime universe!

It's time for a poem
Time to show 'em:
Sonnets, I can flow 'em
Rhymes, I can grow 'em
Tricks, I've come to know 'em
Haikus, I can rainbow 'em
Fibonaccis, I can forgo 'em
Hidden meanings, I can stow 'em
Limericks, I'll never outgrow 'em
Clerihews, I'll not let go of 'em
Images, I can Van Gogh 'em
Monorhymes, I like to sow 'em

MY THANKS IN KIND
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In monorhyme
I'll give you some time.
Your prefered choice of poetry, no crime.
Of the birds on Thor pond, that's so divine!
Ornithology is indeed a hobby of mine,
photography too, simply sublime..
However a trip to India I'll have to decline,
A virtual reality visit would be perfectly fine.
Reading your monorhymes' has helped me refine
My writting in general and this poem is my thanks in kind.
When monorhyming, try data mining
Rhymezone com surfing, all word rhymes searching
Best suffix finding, words with "ing" ending
Present tense verbing, use twice in singing
Nouning with morning, farthing and shilling
Fling thing with sling string, monosyllabing
Entry for the "Rhymers delight - internal monorhyme" contest
I have a monster-in-law to be
She’s my boyfriend’s mommy
She forced her son to join the military
‘Til his gait was no longer like a lady
I’ve witnessed many times her monstrosity
She screams like having tantrums in a family
She brags my mom and aunt her dowry
She insists, she and her one only son like me
At home, she doesn’t like cat or puppy
She wants people to do all things perfectly
She criticizes her maid’s cleaning and laundry
As if, she’s chief of self-enforcing constabulary
She reminds me and her son to get marry
And wedding rite will be at ritzy hotel of their city
Whenever I suggest to have a simple reception or party
With her bulging eyes, she stares hard at me
I was quite scared and worry
When she said, we’ll stay with her til we’ve a baby
So, I talked to my Lieut. Lovadababee
To push through our plans in two years or three ;)
L ife does not always serve up ice cream.
I nstead, sometimes there are problems that make one want to scream!
V igorously take steps toward your heavenly dream.
E ternity can be reality by choosing right and shining like a sunbeam.
L aughter is good for the soul so laugh a little every day.
A lways remember to show a little kindness along your way.
U ltimately your own joy depends on the loving words you say.
G ive your heart to God and you will never go astray.
H eaven is a free gift that is only a series of choices away.
L ove is the greatest gift that can be bestowed.
O ffer it to everyone the way that Jesus showed.
V erily, verily happiness follows the straight and narrow road.
E ffervescently, live, laugh, and love, with goodness hallowed!
