The whole idea of a ‘leisure class’
is not as distant as it seems
when students prep for life with courses

I decided to try meditation
after a failure of medication
started with a flame on small candle white
lulled into quiet sense that all was right
curtains flying now, wind is inside with me
in zaps and zips, I feel wild electricity
there’s more energy I am refreshed now
meditation is a magnificent kick, a real wow!
MEDITATIONS ON MEDITATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sit, spine aligned with the spine of the earth,
breath flowing like an endless river,
each inhale a promise,
each exhale a letting go.
Mind becomes an empty sky,
clouds of distraction float by—
I watch them, not clinging, just witnessing,
watching the sun of awareness rising.
Time bends,
the clock dissolves into the ether,
and in this space,
I am both lost and found.
In the soft embrace of stillness,
I taste the sweetness of presence,
the clarity of the moment,
wrapped in the silence of the now.
Meditation, a bridge to the infinite,
where my mind learns to rest,
and my spirit unfurls,
finding solace in the spaces between.
I continue breathing, a simple act,
yet profound as the stars,
reminding me that stillness
is not absence, but the fullness of being.
I return again and again
to this sanctuary carved from silence
where thoughts dissolve
and the soul awakens ever present, ever now.
Buddha in the Palm of Your Hand
Sitting like a stone statue
Dancing like a small child
Hugging like age old lovers
Surfing like dolphins wild
What it is that dwells within
What it is that reflects
What it is that moves us when
We take time to connect
Nowhere else will we find it
Nowhere else can it be
But just resting here and now
In our hands, always free
(8/19/25)
if you feel your mind’s in need of a vacation, try meditation
The rhythmic waves roll,
Barely foaming as they gently sweep up the shore
And lightly brush my toes
Before retreating as another wave approaches.
Distant swallows chatter like a choir out of tune,
Tossing a scattered melody — yet strangely harmonious.
The coconut leaves above me whisper
As the soft breeze drifts past.
The cold of the damp sand where I sit, legs outstretched,
Has crept up into my chest.
I scoop the damp sand at my side
And press it slowly between my fingers.
My chest tightens as a chorus of voices shriek in my skull.
Donald Duck and Daisy Duck
had so much plucky luck
they invested in tranquil park ponds
then meditated swimming alongside fronds !
a hush swept through the room
like a draft sliding under an old door
slowly it made its presence known
until our awareness was undeniable
our minds were frozen in a different state and time
a time of being and knowing
the transition between sound and silence contains the sounds of silence
Mist feathery drifts
last night’s breath loosening
above basalt slopes of Huatung
Pacific swallows trace morning brushwork
over Fuli’s rice paddies
new green scented with rain.
Xiuguluan River flows jade mountain-born
among ancestral stones
white willows in Ruisui weep
dew-kissed
cycad fronds catching first sunlight
Leaf pearls gather on my thatched sandals
Walami earth holds stories in its coolness.
Bihe Pond rests hidden in Wanrong’s stillness
waters reflecting the tribe’s quiet prayers
Bamboo leaves in green and gold
crested mynas gather in quiet repose
wind moves with the chime of a temple bell.
Ancestral path wanders into the Central Range
oolong tea clouds drift
above Qilai’s blue ridges
A white egret lifts over Guangfu’s terraces
air clear as poured Longjing.
A bulbul calls
blue magpie glides
the slow unlayering of day
Huatung Calligrapher’s span warm to newborn light
time unspools—
bright
unmeasured.
Light widens
dawn follows Yu Shan’s shadowed valleys
the world in quiet promise
soft light
drifting into morning.
I stand alone in natures beauty,
in the woods by a trickling stream.
I feel the presence of my destiny,
as a repetitive eternal dream.
I hear the gurgling of water,
as it follows its chosen way,
No worries of tomorrow,
as it just flows towards the bay.
My mind says, relax you’re never alone,
the beauty of nature is all around.
A fallen oak tree seems to beckon me,
I acknowledge it and gently sit down.
I close my eyes and calm my thoughts,
a calming quietness welcomes me.
I slow my breath, open my heart,
and let myself to just be.
I feel the oneness of all creation,
and the presence of love that oneness brings.
Then my thoughts wondered why it took so long,
to sincerely seek deep spiritual things.
.
The message I received, without a word,
from a presence calming and maternal.
When you acknowledge your spiritual self,
you’ll be aware that life is eternal.
To relax, to let it all go, it helps….. ah, so fulfilling.
To know, really know, I am enough, just stop proving!
To hear the sound of the bluebirds, so busy!
The cat purrs on my chest, so great being not in a tiizzy!
To not seek world approval for who I really am.
Is delicious, heavenly, relaxing, existential jam!
