Ism isn't right, it's spite which stems from deep emotion
Welling up within the soul when we confront the notion
That someone somewhere is receiving what we think is ours
Bestowed on us from somewhere we think's written in the stars
“The meek shall inherit the earth” ~
Pity their predecessors devalue its worth
The Lottery called Time —
Each Ticket bears a Name —
We draw by Breathing — one by one —
And none may cry — Unfair!
The Wheel is turned by Silence —
The Hand we never see —
It grants a Dawn — denies a Noon —
With equal Courtesy —
Some win a Moment’s Radiance —
A brief — bewildering — Prize —
Some hold but Ashes — warm from Hope —
And some — the Long Good-byes —
The Numbers fall like Petals —
From Calendars — undone —
A Life — may hinge upon a Beat —
Or miss — by less than One —
Yet still we stake our Heart — entire —
Against the Odds — unknown —
For Faith itself is Chance — refined —
And Love — the Wager thrown —
If I should lose — I keep the Draw —
For Living — was the Fee —
And even Loss — declares — at last —
I played — Eternity —

We live in a matrix of unpredictability,
your fate randomized at best
by numbers shouted out by a bingo caller.
B for birth marks, qualities and defects.
I for inherent or sudden health issues.
N for near death experiences altering your life.
G for grand events that bring you happiness.
O for obituaries and the inevitability of death.
We can't take anything for granted.
We draw straws and just accept that
life is a gift ~ come what may.

If a camel is the ship of the desert
then speaking equally
a ship is the camel of the sea
altho' a camel can go without water
for up to seven months
a ship without water on which to float
is neither a barque a barge nor boat
as the camel needs food
to get over the humps
it seems like a dromedary
conundrum to me
but if by chance
I'm struck by luck
and the lottery I should win
would that I could buy a ship
if I may I'd like to say,
"That'll be the day
when my camel comes in."
Have you ever wondered about all the things that require your signature in life
How about a marriage certificate, I now pronounce you man and wife
A steady hand is needed as you buy your first home
If a writer's cramp occurs with so many places to sign, you are not alone
The car of your dreams you are about to drive off the lot
Or maybe the insurance for that car you just bought
Your passport for an upcoming dream trip you are about to take
The officer speeding ticket for moving too fast, oh for heaven's sake
Your birth certificate your parents sign to prove you are alive
Your driver's license after you show you know how to drive
The only thing I would like to sign is a big check from the lottery I just won
One more stroke of the pen and my work day will be done
Look up to the sky
will you live or will you die?
is a lottery you see
we the west dropping aid
pretty and adorable exploding bombs
the grandest casino of war
will we save you?
even so not for long
you will be slaughtered
our masters decide
A gamble for a chance win to riches
What would you do if you were lucky enough to win the lottery
Would you donate some to an aid group that could get some people out of poverty
A trip to some exotic place surely would be in your plans
Would all the money go a long way to increasing your lifespan
Could you buy love perhaps, it would probably be artificial at best
Using your newfound wealth now may be a good time to invest
That would give you more time to think all your decisions through
A well-thought-out plan is what you need to do
As the old saying goes the best things in life are free
Love from family and friends and a warm sunny day are important to me
If I won the lottery would I refuse to claim it, I think not
I require the money to pay for the loan for all the lottery tickets I just bought
A girl who made her own pottery
learned she had just won the lottery
she had a glazed look
as her head she shook
her eyes like her clay got watery

for all is for time
some born free some with the bill
so what is this life
for some all that is touched gold
the power of the plough died
life had not been kind their land
arid accepted them both

The richest man in town was
Arrogant and selfish
And we stayed away from him
Until he won the lottery
Then we galivanted to his house
Thinking he would share
Forgetting that your personality does not change
Just because you win a mere sixty-three million dollars
I wanted some change
Had to use my common sense
I am rich again!
when my winnings hit the news, relatives climbed into my windows.
great aunts and uncles, sixth cousins, uncles twice removed.
some families stormed over to demand their due with no connection.
you remember me – yes, I do, the neighbor who never waves back
heard hard luck stories that topped one another fast and furiously
I bought myself a new identity, new face, new name.
had to leave my family behind because they did not want new faces. I
I left half my winnings with them, as that was fair.
ex-husband keeps calling me, begging me to take the money back.
he has big trouble since the divorce settlement was announced.
I am in the Bahamas where there are no crying children or ex's.
a good looking man in lying the green plastic beach lounger.
I suck in my stomach and try to look chic.
He smiles and I smile.
He has great teeth and a sweet tan.
“Hey, aren’t you that gal who won the lottery?”
