Premium Member From the Eyes of Someone Born In 1952

Through the eyes of one born in 1952:

1950’s TV craze
Muscle cars, blue jeans
Poodle skirts, class ring exchanges
Simple time, grandparents involved.
Girls want to be pretty, men call women girls

I Love Lucy
Topper, Loretta Young,
Show of Shows
Grandma’s house on Sundays. Grandpa’s teach skills.
Girls want to be beautiful, men call women “dames”

1960’s Marauding cold war
Russia cosmonauts
Space race
Grandparents are moved to nursing homes.
Girls want to be Jackie, men call women “wife”

JFK and Bobby
Dr. Martin Luther King
Killed by cowards
Grandparents give advice, but visits are more seldom.
Girls want to be housewives, men call women back home.

Early 1970’s, hippie revolution
Egyptian cat queen make-up, free love, anti-war.
Barbara Streisand, Sonny and Cher, Bette Midler,
Grandparents see an alarming pattern of disrespect.
Girls want to be singers and dancers, men get confused.

1980’s
Fur vests, striped pants
Disco Music, John Travolta, Sundays are just another day.
Grandparents have rights, and try to get part time custody of their grandchildren.
Women want to have rights, be independent. Men call them “busters”

1990’s, Turn of everything, selfishness on the rise.
Assassination of Innocence, church and family are scoffed.
Grandparents back off, not daring to give advice, seeing it is not wanted.
Women are working all over the place. Men are not the only bread-winners.

2000’s Computers are in houses
Children are alone, latch key
911 happens, people pray for a day or two.
Grandparents are nowhere around.
Men and women get depressed; children are too.

2010’s
I-phone. I-pad, I-know. I, me, I, I, I.
Lawsuits, lawlessness, spiritually bereft.
Communication breakdown; facetime grandparents once in a pink moon (rarely).
People sit next to each other and text. Confusion reigns supreme.
Breaking down of family is complete. Sorrowful, angry people, disjointed, sad.

I am not a personal fan of jewelry, but
were I more careful, I would have been
fine with rings. My first ring was my High
School CLASS RING, and If I had been able to
retain it all these 55 years, it would be a real
historical show-piece today. But I managed
to lose it early on somewhere in Chicago.

My second finger piece was my WEDDING RING. Back then,
marital rings for men were called wedding bands. I had it for
several years before it disappeared somewhere in Sacramento
after being worn faithfully for some 25 years.

My third ring was a special gift from my wife. It was a GOLD RING
that irritated me, because I found myself constantly being scratched
by those sharp golden edges. It also took an exit and disappeared in Sacramento. Three strikes, and I was out. That was the end of my wearing rings. Losing every ring that I ever owned. Imagine that.

Premium Member Messages In the Clouds

Observer of the skies, I thrill to see
a puppy cloud stretch out to dragon length,
a shapeless mass become a well-formed heart,
or pastel puffs become an ice cream cone.
These sights call forth my best old memories
of playing with my dog and summer treats,
of how my teen heart fluttered when I wore
my first real boyfriend’s class ring on my chain.

A local man I knew saw doves, the Cross*,
and messages from Jesus in the clouds.
A booklet holds his photos of these scenes.
Revisiting my copy gives me pause.
Why would two long-time Christians like us see
such widely-varied scenes among the clouds?

I’ll bet this man prayed fervently to see
some lovely words and images from God,
who chose to send the answers in the sky.
“Ask and ye shall receive,” the Bible says.
I’m praying, and believing, He’ll reveal
some messages from Heaven in the clouds
to bless my soul and move my heart to sing.

*The Cross upon which Christ was crucified

Premium Member Back To School

For twelve long years it was back to school
To make sure I didn’t grow up a fool
Learning how to read a book, do a cipher
At times I felt like a prisoner … a lifer!
I griped and groaned will it never end
In adulthood I realized it was a godsend,
Not only did I gain skills for my lifetime
Along the way, in school, I learned to rhyme.

Now, at eighty, I remember hardly a thing
But, believe it or not, I still have my class ring!
And I remember some awesome educators
Who were clever to squelch the instigators,
Giving us the skills we kids would most need
Teaching us to be followers; also, how to lead.
Today’s children will face many challenges,
But like most of us were, they are sponges.

They will become tomorrow’s successes,
And this is just one of my better guesses.

They Cannot Stand Between Us

Well ever since high school I have loved you
You gave me your class ring to wear which just
Goes to prove you loved me too but the
But those were those who were jealous of us
And our love and still trying to keep us apart
But you can't change what you feel deep down
In your heart, I know they still talk bad about me
But at the same time who care 'cuz I know you
Love me and will always love me...
So why don't you tell them to go to hell, you won't
Be blackmailed into walking away the dream of
Years and the one thing you hold most dear 'cuz
We are one in the same and that's something
That’ll never change...
Throughout many lifetime I have been yours and
You have been mine, so enough is enough
They can only stand between us if we let them
Stand between us so they mine as well give it up
Because there is no end to our love and so no, no
THEY CANNOT STAND BETWEEN US!

Goodbye My Love

We were having fun in the hot summer sun.
We were having a blast and then she drowned so fast.
He just closed the door, and he paused to stand,
As he took his class ring off her hand.
He touched her face and started to cry,
As he put on his ring and wanted to die.
All who were watching did not speak,
As a silent tear ran down his cheek.
They watched in silence, as he bent near,
And whispered I love you into her ear.
He said his goodbye, and felt he wanted to die.
And just then,… the wind started to blow,
As they lowered her casket into the hole.
He made us proud as he said out loud,
I miss you from the heart, because I loved you from the start,
My love for you is real and my heart will have to heal.
I can’t wait to see you on the other side,
And begin to experience our eternal lives.
So Goodbye my love….Goodbye!!!    /////    Smecozzi2009@copyright.com

Premium Member Tell Her I Love Her---

TELL HER I LOVE HER---
I see you at school today;
I often wondered, sometimes prayed;
Do you think of me;
And could I even be an interest to you;
A love lost teen in this complicated world;
Wanting only for you to be my girl;
So shy am I,
So shy am I;
So I ask the cool kids, I ask your older brother;
Tell her, tell her I love her;

I told my friends right away;
She's a sweet young thing;
I'd wish she'd wear my class ring;
And maybe when we're grown and older;
Trade  it in for a diamond engagement ring;
I'm a love lost teen in this complicated world;
Wanting only for you to be my girl;
So shy am I,
So shy am I;
So I ask the cool kids, I ask your older brother;
Tell her, tell her I love her;

Cant Be (2) Remix

His Eyes Opened Wide
His Suprise Was Unable To Hide
"Are You Sure" He Asked
She Nodded, Her Emotions Still Masked
His Eyes Lit Up, Still Nervous Though
She Filled Them Like Wine Filling A Cup, Lifted To Bros
He Fell Down To One Knee
Infront Of Her Like A Dream
And Pulled Out His Class Ring
"I Wasnt Really Planning On Doing This Boo. But Will You Marry Me?"
Her Mouth Opened, Fell Into An O
He Didnt Know If That Was A No
"I- I Dont Know Babe"
The Words Poured Out Of Her Mouth In A Darker Shade
He Brought His Quivering Lips To Hers With A Kiss
Confused She Pulled Away From His Lips
"No", Her Voice Broke
"No", She Repeated Trying Not To Choke
"Its Not Right. I Dont Want This Just Because They Say Its Right"
She Whispered Into The Night

Premium Member Rings Always Amaze Me

Rings on our fingers in the 50’s and 60’s.
A big class ring with bandages wrapped around in the back
for those who are going steady in high school.

Mood rings in the 70’s, but not as many wedding rings.
Flower power rings and yellow happy faces rings.
Possibly a barefoot metal car pedal

The 80’s are a blur for me.
Bathtub rings prevalent.
Because I had three small children and they loved being dirty.

The 90’s for me was spiral rings.
I went back to school to get a degree in something.
Not caring what, hoping I could teach with it.

For the past twenty years I have been purchasing rings.
I have a slew of them, but usually wear the same two.
My current favorites. Rings always amaze me.

Premium Member What If

Those “What if” sessions we indulge
may rouse regrets we won’t divulge,
awaken sensibilities,
or help us set priorities.

What if I could retrieve today
one thing I’ve lost along the way,
one object that was dear to me
that I’d be overjoyed to see?

I venture from reality
and in a vivid fantasy,
a box I hold contains each thing
I’ve lost. I’ll search first for my ring.

My high-school class ring symbolized,
a milestone. When I realized
through carelessness, I’d lost this treasure,
I knew I’d miss that source of pleasure.

I learned from this experience.
I’ve been more careful ever since.
Those lessons that come packed with pain,
we’re much are most likely to retain.
