My mother thinks I'm a doctor
I just don't have the guts
To tell her I spent all my college doe
On beer, wine, women and such
So after I faked my graduation
Said I was moving to the South
To help the less fortunate among us
Another lie I let slip out
I'm now in the south of Florida
Where some may call me a bum
Living in a citrus grove along the coast
Not answering to anyone
It's really not such a bad life
This do nothing life I've made
I hear my Moms proud of me at afternoon tea
Telling the girls of all the lives I save
I do my share of dumpster diving
That's where I got the idea
Behind a real doctors office one day
With some of their stationary I nabbed
I did a little doctoring
After all I do play one in Moms mind
Doesn't look to lame where I inserted my name
Then wrote my Mom about the kids and the wife
I've created such an elaborate charade
It's now gotten all out of hand
As I panhandle my way up and down
The Sunshine states surf and sand
Mom now says she wants to visit
Can't wait to meet the wife and kids
Don't know how I let it get this crazy
And how it all lead up to this
Now I'm scrambling to find a vacant house and a woman
With a couple of kids that look just like me
That can go along with a ruse for a week in mid-June
Since I told her that's when I'd be free
I'm thinking I should of studied in college
Instead of being this mind numbing huckster
Telling lie after deepening lie
Just so my Mother would think I'm a doctor
Where The Lemon Trees Flower
I know the land where the lemon trees flower,
with citrus scents that often overpower
those of the rose or sweet-perfumed wildflower
that grow around the old Sicilian tower.
Here, hand in hand, close to the midnight hour,
we walk the trails where full-moon does empower
young lovers seek their own romantic bower,
while soulful bells ring out from the watchtower.
We soon take shelter from a thundershower;
'tween lightning bolts, it booms its mighty power.
In loving arms, I'm safe with brave manpower
that holds me close within love's superpower.
Anon, our kisses weaken love's willpower,
so back we head to our Sicilian tower,
where lemon scents are sweet and never sour...
and love and lemon-trees together flower.

rainbow hues herald heartfelt hum of hummingbird
dubious drone of bees and chain saws
purple majesty presents to a giant azure eye
garden of dull pink fuzzy hollyhocks
faeries, gnomes and brownies linger near
lavender wings lavish peace and enchantment
hummingbird’s azure head peers into relaxing retina mirror
turquoise collar matches delving human’s eyes
hummingbird's green mimics garden's fresh carrot stems
flickering breath steams up the mirror of love
fresh citrus orange follows her as she flies backwards
angels are watching from heaven above
she flits from lilac to daisy giving preference to roses
Time and Change
There's an old abandoned farmhouse I passed the other day,
With broken down old stockyards and a shed of rotting hay.
Thistles growing cornfield high among the citrus trees.
The fowl run all but fallen down with grass up past your knees.
Horses grazing by the house, bring a nostalgic smile.
This farm once loved and cared for, made someones life worthwhile.
A blue wren flits from twig to twig, and along the veranda rail.
The pensioned off old dairy cow, will never again see a bail.
The mailbox a yellow rusty fridge, standing by the road.
A fence of wooden posts and wire that no longer take the load.
With busted gate on rusted hinges, a windmill with missing sails.
And there a tank and water trough, with split and broken rails.
Now that old abandoned farmhouse, will one day turn to dust.
Becoming part of all around, in change we place our trust.
If daily grind wears you down and you think you’ve had enough.
Remember change is constant and to fight it makes it tough.
Hard times we know will take a toll and slap one in the face.
Then nature sends a caring hand to keep us in the race.
The rain will green the fields, clear the air and turn the dirt to mud.
Give that pensioned off old dairy cow a fresh and tasty cud.
The shadows in the afternoon stretch across this little glade.
As the sparkling sunlit brook, disappears into the shade.
And I wonder if one will see in a hundred years from now,
There'll be another farmhouse, another horse and dairy cow.
Or crowded streets and buildings with people rushing to and fro
Concerned with things to do today, and worry about to-morrow
Whatever will become of it one thing is for sure,
Time moves on and brings the change, that's what time is for.

Mint leaf season vortex gilds sylvan glaze
vivid hue a scented purple ground mist
citrus brume float locus in dewdrop phase
cherry orchard fruit shoots hearthrob wish list
Gold grosbeak pecking ryegrass fare at dawn
scarlet tanager an oak tree crown rite
wet mallard feet drag bird seed round my lawn
flush choral plume behind the hedgerow sprite
Triumphant March of mother earth womb pearls
airy infant whines elate our senses
green sea tides that flurry sunlit moss curls
hub of nodding reeds a ripe consensus
Zeal infuses luscious pastures growing
spring fount heralds jubilance a-glowing

This poem is a sonnet.
Grateful to God* for deliverance from anosmia
I praise Him for the pleasant breath of life
midst jubilant smelling optimization
oozing with wondrous delights...
On a restful day of redolent vibrancy, my nose is greeted
by minty scent of my special child's shampoo
with citrus body wash along bubble gum-cologne
and refreshing baby powder after his bathing spree...
Oh, I enjoy the aroma of steamed breakfast rice
sizzling barbecue, creamy chicken-vegetable soup
with mango yoghurt while allowing hot chocolate
to blend with the smell of toasted bun midst peanut butter.
Concluding my morning festive flavorsome meal
my olfactory sense is welcomed by serene balmy room
verily therapeutic as I immerse for writing pursuits
gripped with the lavender fragrance of my own perfume.
*In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Diet green tea has helped me kick the soda habit
flavors fun taste buds go yum smooth and sweet
it's a healthy treat
I can drink one with sodas it's always more
it satisfies me and quenches my thirst
with flavors to savor that give you a wow burst
Love pineapple mango and citrus too
looking for watermelon but mixed berry true
duet tea with vitamin C
Is it healthier than soda sure
on hot summer days it is the cure
icy cold with flavors bold nothing else to be told
Get the bottles don't see cans
at least not from my favorite brand
diet green tea a drink to savor
now in so many tasty flavors.
h o l d me
when the world w e
e p s
and the wounds w a n e
like frayed
threads of fear,
as I, a gilded frame,
long to mirror your lyrical light,
to be the ethereal echo
tethered to the
warm orbit of you…
while mind unlocks
its secret Milky Way,
as love whispers
in soft cadence,
finding words to
erase learned woes.
O beloved sunrise,
color me in
sighs of silence,
like rhymes of roses,
a vanilla villanelle
etched from
the exquisite essence
of a cosmic consequence,
leading me into
the arms of light,
as the lamented night
bent its empathetic knee
to the seraphic sight
of soul-satisfaction,
whilst pained pulse kept
solar seconds ~
counting constellations
within my chest,
curating confessions
from crestfallen stars,
sewing scars with
sparks of saffron and salmon…
and I ponder ~
is this a diamond dream
spun within
an awakened dawn
of glistening gold,
to home me in the
healed harmony
of your tender heart,
with acrylic
incantations of citrus flame,
as I am luminous layers of
a complex canvas,
aching for compassion,
awake in
e c l i p s e d
stillness,
like the supernova sun
devouring
the silk of its own sky…
yet even in this
aesthetic
fulfillment of
faultless infatuation,
I memorized your meteor showers,
flourishing in the thought
of rising beyond
the demise of despair,
to become the only pattern
across the fabric of faith
in your duvet of damask devotion,
no longer tripping
on temptations,
but
t r a c i n g
the cashmere curves of
reality ~
picturesque portrait
of a
passionate promise, paradise painted
forevermore…
The birds were flying home
Upon the setting of the sun,
The flowered track lead me back
To where it all begun.
Butterflies encircled
My hands could nearly touch-
The pretty little insects
I always loved so much.
Living in the moment
Though somewhere like a dream,
Hearing water rushing
From the local stream.
Exotic fruity floral notes
Tickled me to sneeze,
Citrus; lemon, tangerine
Made hungry with the breeze.
Famished from the journey
Steps became a stride,
Soon to see family through
The countryside.
They’ll be waiting round the mountain
After all those miles,
Welcoming loving arms and
The greatest smiles.
