Countryside
The birds were flying home
Upon the setting of the sun,
The flowered track lead me back
To where it all begun.
Butterflies encircled
My hands could nearly touch-
The pretty little insects
I always loved so much.
Living in the moment
Though somewhere like a dream,
Hearing water rushing
From the local stream.
Exotic fruity floral notes
Tickled me to sneeze,
Citrus; lemon, tangerine
Made hungry with the breeze.
Famished from the journey
Steps became a stride,
Soon to see family through
The countryside.
They’ll be waiting round the mountain
After all those miles,
Welcoming loving arms and
The greatest smiles.
