All For the Love of Betsy

This is a story poem. I call, ALL FOR THE LOVE OF BETSY

ILL start this little story by asking a question, what is love?
They say there is all kinds of love.
This story is about a new kind of love.
I had two loves my girlfriend and I was in love with my car.
Now you might say that is strange to be in love with a car.
It is not me that is strange being in love with a car.
What is strange,is the strange behavior of the car.
Now I got you confuse, or you think IM just plain crazy.

Well my story really begins when my grandfather gave me 1955 OLDSMOBILE.
I was so proud of the car,I even gave her a name.I called her BETSY.
She was two tone yellow and black, she was a beauty.
I wash and waxs BETSY everyday.
I even carved a heart on BETSY dashboard.
I wrote in the heart,ALL FOR THE LOVE OF BETSY

About the time I had BETSY,I met my future wife BARBARA.
She also was a beauty.
This is where my little story starts to get strange.
TRUE BUT STRANGE.
BETSY seem to take on a life of her very own
When I was alone with betsy, she run like a jewel.
When BARBARA was riding in BETSY.
BETSY would run like a mule.

One night I had four flat tires.
Another night BETSY loss all her power.
I thought the cable on BETSY battery came loose.
NOTHING WAS LOOSE.
Whenever I played the radio it came in nice and clear.
Whenever BARBARA played the radio nothing came on but static.

The strangest part of the story when BARB and I was on a pinic.
We were sitting under a willow tree.
I carved a heart on the bark of the willow tree.
Inside the heart I wrote,ALL FOR THE LOVE OF BARBARA.
Just I like I in the heart I carved on BETSY dashboard,
ALL FOR THE LOVE OF BETSY

BETSY was parked on an enbankment.
We were sitting under the willow tree below the enbankment.
Some how BETSY hand break came loose
and BETSY started to roll down the enbankment.

BETSY crashed into the willow tree and scapeof the heart on the bark of the tree
where I wrote ALL FOR THE LOVE OF BARBARA.
BETSY burst into flames and was gutted out.
All except where I carved the heart on BETSY dashboard,
that I wrote ALL FOR THE LOVE OF BETSY.

BARBARA and I got married,
but as for BETSY,I never had a car quite like her again.
I dont know if you believe my story or think IM strange.
But do you want to know what is really strange,
LOVE IS STRANGE

My Birthday Wish

I sit on the floor and wait from dusk to dawn, for a new day will soon be reborn. I count all
the blooming flowers, and count down the long hours, while mum takes her shower.
Today's the day, for it's my birthday. I hope I get A car, or A guitar or maybe even become
A movie star, but that's asking A bit too much of me. I walk around singing out A loud,
acting proud feeling as if my heads in A cloud. To my surprise I start stumbling over my
words and begin mumbling. Maybe mum just forgot about me, or are they just hiding the
presents from me? I walk through the hall, with my head dragging looking at the floor,
and go to bed with my heart feeling torn. It's getting late and I can no longer wait. I turn
off my light, and close my eyes and cry having so much things go through my mind. I
drift to sleep but then I see, mum walking in my room in the middle of the night with A
light. It's so bright. She raises my heart like A kite, taking of it flight and she says, good
night, and turns of the lights. She raised my hopes high and then shot them out of the
sky. I break down and cry, it feels as if I've just died. No one remembered why today was
A special day for it was my birthday. I look at the sky and wonder why? I light my candle
and close my eyes, tears dripping down onto my thighs, and I start to whisper in my
mind. "I don't want A car, or even A guitar. I don't even want to become A movie star. I
just want to be free of this disease called poverty, I just want people to stop running away
from me. Free me of aids so I can stop feeling afraid. Stop me from being poor, so I can
afford to stop sleeping on the floor. Make me smile for there is no reason to smile, but
please make my life worth while. Take me away from Africa, for all I see is people being
raped and all the kids hearts filled with hate, I'm loosing my faith for I am living each day
even though there is nothing to live for". A Tear drops on my candle, And puts out the
flame I whisper in pain,This is "My Birthday Wish"

We wish for luxuries that only money can afford. They wish for water for they are poor.
People need to learn to smile, for kids living in poverty have A legitimate reason not too.
Be happy for what we have, and never complain for what we don't have.

Premium Member 33 Prayers

There's a time for loves to be won and lost… At least there was for us.
For 33 Chilean miners, lost below… life was simply stopped.
Alive and well, but buried deep… 2,200 feet below.
They had such a daunting, beautiful dream… to see the sky once more.
Being hot, little water, dark, only bites of food…17 days was asking a lot.
But life was true and held on strong, even when in the bowels of the earth you’re lost.
With each day the hopes began to fade, always bolstered by others to be strong.
Little did they know their prayers were there, were being answered in spades above.
Time went on as governments stopped, to send whomever they could to help.
The world looked on, every eye glued, as prayers they also imbued.
For once in their lives everyone together worked, for a common cause that’s true.
Building, digging, drilling, and planning… together as life below held on.
No one knew the miners were truly alive, as the earth held them in a deathly grip.
But faith held everyone together, for 17 days, on this fateful trip.
Breaking thru a small hole to them in time was a monumental task indeed.
To do it bigger again, was asking God to plow the way and give them back again.
Drill bits broke, and no one slept, as dreams of home, the miners spun.
Several drillings were stopped by fate, as a single one held on.
Many things could have stopped those lives such as slides and after shocks.
Remember the mine was unstable, or it wouldn’t have fallen at all.
Everyone below was tired, hot, worn out, and sick by the time they reached their goal.
One small, flimsy, missile tied from above would have to drag them to the top.
Would it snag? Would the earth crumble? Could it take the buffeting there and back?
The tunnel was finally reinforced. The first people went below, as we held our breath.
One by one, for 24 hours they were brought up from beneath the earth.
Never in the time of man, has a feat been held to so tightly for 69 days and finally won.
Thank the Chilean government, it’s people, the world's and American help, for bringing them back.
Then like the miners did… get on your knees and thank the God above.
Yes… it was one unified, miraculous leap of faith, with God holding every ones hand.
It brought back faith in many things including God and yes, even your fellow man.

Premium Member Fancy Stress - Collaboration With the Amazing Nina Parmenter

There’s a party tonight so I bouffe up my hair
Pamper and powder my sweet derrière,
Arrive at the door, all done up to impress.....
Oh man, I forgot! Invite said “fancy dress”!

Pete and Sue are here, seems their theme’s ‘Tarts and Vicars’,
Sue’s skirt’s microscopic! Look at her tiny knickers!
Pete’s in a nun’s habit; the image is scary,
I’ve not seen a nun with a chin that’s THAT hairy!

And there’s Spider-Man! (although I’m perfectly certain,
His cape is made out of his living room curtain),
His curve-hugging costume’s quite “cosy” in size,
I think our friend Spidey gobbled too many flies!

In the corner, a lady has come as Snow White,
Gee, her bosoms are out there, her corset’s so tight,
They look like two bald heads squeezed into a sack,
Glad my hubby’s not here - he’d have a heart attack!

In the hallway, a robot is looking well-oiled -
Her costume’s made out of three rolls of tin foil,
She looks more like a turkey at Christmas, so later,
I really hope no one is tempted to baste her!

By the buffet, Fred Flintstone is looking contrite,
I think he and Wilma are having a fight,
Behaving all “caveman” has got Fred in trouble -
He showed his big man-club to poor Betty Rubble!

There’s a massive man-baby dressed just in a nappy,
The “milk” in his bottle has made him quite happy,
He’s shaking his tooshie and sucking his dummy,
And asking a lady, “can I call you Mummy?”

On the sofa is Princess Fiona from Shrek,
Blimey, Count Dracula’s nibbling her neck,
I avert my eyes to avoid his rising passion,
In walks his wife, and his face turns quite ashen.

His irate wife’s dressed up as pop singer Cher,
In her see through outfit she looks almost bare,
Then she lays into Drac just like Rocky Balboa -
She’s drunk as I skunk, I’m relieved I don’t know her!

Suddenly, Batman bursts through the door,
In his skintight costume - my jaw hits the floor!
He’s so muscular - bulges in all the right places,
If I play my cards right, could be me he embraces!

Well sadly I haven’t a costume of course,
Til I spot a young chappie dressed up as a horse,
I leap on his back - I’m a great improviser -
Strip off and shout “Hey I’m Lady Godiva!”

A Poem To Love

A Poem to love

To day I am placing here a great Hindi poem of a renowned poet
Translated by me as a poem which I hope would touch your mind
And heart intensely.
From the day I read this poem in between a play its wordings
Have touched me very deeply.

Since the poem is a beautiful piece of poetry by a great Indian
Hindi writer, poet, dramatist and story writer I am trying to
Bring its translation as much I could make from my mind without
Claiming that this is the best.

Brief background story for poetry soup lovers to judge the poem
In light in the light of its real beauty:

The heroine who was in the age of sweet sixteen was in love
With someone very intensely, but his actual lover ask her to
Show her love for someone else for obtaining a greater result
For the sake of his motherland and the heroine tries to love
Some one else, who asked a price for the same and gave only
Pains and agonies to her. But, when she sees her actual love
Her hearts is willing to welcome him and how- you will see
In this beautiful poem:
Translation of the poem of Jai Shanker Prasad a great Hindi poet.
Jaishankar Prasad (January 30, 1889 – January 14, 1937),
one of the most famous figures in modern Hindi literature

“Intoxicated by the wine of youth, in the age of sixteen
She cared only to love
And to whom she should give her heart,
She had no desire to know
And the one to whom she sold her precious heart,
Was asking a price for the same
The greedy even took away
The only treasure of pains and memories from her

She felt dusty storms were rising in her heart
And her love was coming totally unaware,
She thought to sprinkle water running from her eyes to
Make the path slippery
So that her love may walk slowly
And she may behold her love, a little more
The longing of her life may get fulfilled
And her hopes may get a base to stay a little more

She knew all the steams of the world would be running from her eyes
Making it more difficult to recognize her face
As the deep sea in her eyes would be splashing water on her face”

Only translation is made by me and the poem in Hindi belongs to
Late Jai Shanker Prasad.

There Is No Telling the Things You Might Find

Picking a rose in a garden of Sundays
Calling your name on a broken branch wind
Looking for clover where weeds are not welcome
Walking the bridge till its time to begin

Dancing in puddles now filled up with laughter
Running through traffic as cars speed away
Searching for words in the headlines of morning
Writing of moons and the stars on display

Collecting my thoughts when I think I will never
Painting a smile on a rusted front door
Lifting a rock just to see what is under
Shopping for clothes in a grocery store

Looking through openings cut in the carpet
Reaching atop lonely sycamore trees
Juggling penguins, now where did that come from
Asking a bird what it knows about bees

Planting a bush in the depths of the ocean
Baking a cake in a rooftop design
Sweating the small when the big stuff does happen
Thinking of beer when I’d rather have wine

Wearing a frown in the moments I’m happy
Pushing a cart with a wobbly wheel
Lurking in shadows that form on the sunset
Dreaming of things that are hopefully real

Finding that all I have written is nonsense
All of the verses above will now show
When all I wanted to say was I love you
Like in these stanzas I’ve written below

Penning a poem to say what I’m feeling
Wishing the phrases will reach to your heart
Sending you hints of my steadfast devotion
Scribbling fonts that we never shall part

All that I am is now all that you make me
There is no one that this man could love more
You are the girl that I’ve wanted forever
Eternally you’ll be the one I adore

So there you have it, quite crazy but true
Poetic ramblings from deep in my mind
Where it is light with some dark in the corners
There is no telling the things you might find

The reason I think this poem is Trophy Worthy is it is one of my favorite poems, because it is me. A good amount of fun and nonsense and a lot of beautiful love which is what fuels my pen. I believe my cadence and rhymes are very good and it was a fun poem to write. I think those who read it really enjoyed it because it made them smile and that is usually my goal when writing poetry.

Premium Member Common Problems

We’re in the common room, Lisa and I. It’s Friday afternoon, about 2 - It’s partly-sunny and 45°f. outside. We’ve claimed the two squares of temporary rectangular sunlight like the Spanish conquistadors of old once claimed everything.

I’m just drowsing, I had a test this morning, I got up at 3:30am to study for it and although I’m confident I did ok, I find myself rehashing it when I close my eyes. So I’m determinedly not closing my eyes - much. Lisa has a book open and she’s working on a chemistry problem set (called a pset) assigned as homework.

Looking out and up, there’s only one, lonely, cumulonimbus cloud in the sky. It's there, as if placed - a piece of art - the rest of the sky remaining defiantly blank. At first glance, it resembled a man, hanging by his neck, blowing in the wind under a giant mushroom gallows - but he soon detached and floated away like a tattered kite.

Lisa starts asking a question, without looking up from her book. “Ok, so when hydrogen acts as a metal instead of a nonmetal..”

“Please don’t make me think,” I whisper in a tired monotone, “I’m unprepared.”

“Ugh.” Lisa, grunted. She absorbed her disappointment quietly, without taking offense.

We’re like two disparate species coexisting in the same landscape: the chemistry-tested and the soon-to-be-tested - neither diminished the other but we’re separate.

Leong and Anna come in together, breaking off to their rooms to shed bookbags and coats but soon they’re filling the room with restless energy. “Has anyone heard from Sophy?” Leong asks. Sophy failed a rapid test yesterday morning and was hewn from the population like a cancer on the student body - and swooped off to isolation housing. “Yeah, I took her some stuff this morning,” I report, “She seems ok.”

People are dropping to covid like flies. None of us are invincible, we roommates watch each other - as if any one of us could go full-on-zombie at any moment - not unlike I imagine dinner at the Trumps these days - everyone looking around, nonchalantly, wondering who’ll flip first - but here, if you cough, you’ll start a panic.

Premium Member Why Would Our President Put His Trust In China Or Russia Or In Ukrane

WHY WOULD OUR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED OF AMERICA PUT HIS TRUST IN COMMUNIST CHINA,AND COMMUNIST RUSSIA TO DO AN INVESTIGATION ON AN "AMERICAN"???? IS THAT A "CRIMINAL" WHO IS FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC"?WHY WOULD OUR PRESIDENT "TRUST" IN "RUSSIA OR CHINA" TO DO AN INVESTIGATION AT ALL?WHY "TRUST"THE ENEMY" WHO IS COMMUNIST" TO HELP "DEMOCRACY"? DEMOCRACY IS THE CONTRARY OF COMMUNISM: WE CAN REALIZE WHAT IS CONTRADICTORY: LOVE IS CONTRADICTORY TO "HATE",BUT SOME CHOOSE "HATE" ,AND THAT IS OK: THEY CHOOSE HELL,AND THAT IS WHERE THEY WILL GO TODAY!!! ALL GLORY TO GOD! PRAISE THE LORD! IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY : AMEN. THE REALIZATION IS THAT WHY SHOULD OUR PRESIDENT PUT HIS TRUST IN COMMUNIST CHINA OR RUSSIA TO INVESTIGATE A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY? COMMUNISM AND DEMOCRACY IS AN EXPERIMENT,BUT MOST PEOPLE CHOOSE DEMOCRACY ,AND THE PRESIDENT CHOOSE ALL OF THE ABOVE,AND AS A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED OF AMERICA "WE CHOOSE DEMOCRACY,AND NOT COMMUNISM AND NOT ALL OF THE ABOVE!!! OUR PRESIDENT CHOOSE ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!!COMMUNISM DOES NOT ENCOMPASS DEMOCRACY,AND THE ONLY RESULT IS THAT WHOM EVER USES COMMUNISM,AND DEMOCRACY IS TO DEMINISH BOTH OF THEM WHILE REALIZING THAT "DEMOCRACY" PERPETUATES MORE LOVE 'THAN COMMUNISM!!!!WHY FILL YOURSELF WITH A IDEOLOGY THAT DOES NOT PERPETUATE LOVE,OR MORE LOVE? ASKING A COMMUNIST TO HELP A DEMOCRACY AND INCLUDING COMMUNIST COUNTRIES LIKE CHINA,AND RUSSIA IS THE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED IN THE U.S.A,AND IT HURTS "THE SECURITY OF THE WORLD AND THE U.S.A!!!!!WHY WOULD OUR PRESIDENT PUT HIS "TRUST"IN A "FOREIGN COMMUNIST COUNTRY",AND ASK A FOREIGN COUNTRY TO INVESTIGATE A DEMOCRAT !! COMMUNISM HATES DEMOCRACY,AND THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE!!!!WE HAVE ENEMIES BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC,AND IF COMMUNISM TAKES OVER ,COMMUNISM WILL WIPE THE REPUBLICANS FIRST BECAUSE THEY GAVE OF LOVE,AND BY DOING THAT THEY ARE THE WORST,AND THE "DEVIL" PUNISHES : BY GOD'S AUTHORIZATION TO PUNISH THOSE WHO GAVE LOVE AWAY,AND DESTROYED DEMOCRACY ON THAT TERRIBLE DAY FOR THE U.S.A!!!!

Are You Having the Same Dream As Me

Are you having the same dream as me,
Do you dream you are aboard the Titanic,
And you have been focused on the Running of the ship,
Marvelling at how smoothly she moves through the water.

Your mood changes as you catch sight of icebergs ahead,
And wonder if the ship should change course or slow down,
You think of asking a crew member to get some reassurance,
But you come back to the brochure which says the ship is unsinkable,
And you go back to admiring the magnificence of modern engineering.

Suddenly you are jolted out of your complacency as the ships momentum, Carries it smack into the mother of all icebergs.

As the call to head for the lifeboats is made,
You thank god that age has its privileges,
And you are used to responding in a timely manner,
When someone in authority asks for your co-operation,
And the alternative is being trampled in a late rush,
By those who can't read the writing on the wall,
Or in this case the panic on the face of those in charge,
When they realise they did not heed the danger signs.

As your past life experience of life or death decisions,
Drives you to take the ultimate leap of faith,
And you are safely aboard a lifeboat.
You catch a glimpse of those who stand frozen at the top of the railing,
Not heeding the call to leap for their life.

From the safety of your lifeboat,
You catch a last glimpse of the demise of a dream ship,
As the fog closes in,
And feel only disbelief at how many fail in taking leaps of faith,
When life or death choices need to be made,
And how their lack of faith,
Causes them to encourage it in others,
Who look to them as role models.

When another jolt brings you back to a world not so far removed from,
One in your dream,
You quickly check that you have proof of vaccination,
As you never know when the last call for the lifeboats,
Will be given.

If you have the same dream,
Do you pray that others will see the light,
In time to bring more with them out of the darkness.

I was in my chemistry class (lecture #2) and the professor was asking a series of questions. At first, hands were flying up, the answers were easy. But as questions got more complex, and the odds of being right fell off, confidence and raised-hands faltered.

I sit the front row because I film the lectures on my iPad, and there I was, doing my usual bit - taking detailed, color coded notes. If the lecturer mentioned something, I noted it, with my #5 mechanical pencil, but that something could become a heading or a bullet-point in a larger tableau. Those, I would color code with one of several gel pens - tracing carefully over the pencil. Later, in review, I might hi-lite these points with neon, phosphorescent highlighters. (I have a strict color coding system).

I tell you all that because it describes how focused I get on my note taking in classes. I don’t usually interact much due to my filming.

Suddenly, I noticed an unusual hush. I looked up and realized, to my trauma, that the professor had addressed me. He was looking fixedly at me, bent over with his hands on his knees (he’s on a platform).

“Pardon?” I said, meekly.
“Don’t just mouth the answer,” he repeated (apparently), exasperatedly, “say it out loud!”

I thought back to his last question and I offered, “Magnesium nitride,” but he tilted his head like he was waiting for more, “gave off ammonia as it mixed with the water?” I finish the answer like a question.

“Exactly!” he said, standing back up after giving his knees a little slap with his palms. “Thanks for JOINING us,” he says, and after checking his seating chart on his lectern, he added, “MS. Vionet.”

I took a shocked umbrage at this (scolding?), my whole body turning a defensive, atomic pink. What did I do - I thought - why was he being so sassy with me?

I doubt he REALLY wants answers just called out.

It might be a long year.
