In a Spin

oh prunus spinosa
you are my delight
oh prunus spinosa
flowering so white

to see this thorn maturing
in the autumn hue
makes my heart want to sing
so full of fruit, deep blue

but there is this bitter taste
is there something you can do
it would seem such a waste
what if you merge into a brew

oh prunus spinosa
you are my delight
oh prunus spinosa
flowering so white

freezing you to release your juice
sweetened and you're almost there
soon to become a new produce
regularly revolved with loving care

leave you now to father time
no tonic needed to begin
this time you'll taste sublime
just sip what was once in a spin

oh prunus spinosa
you are my delight
oh prunus spinosa
flowering so white

Some Like It Hot

Dantes inferno,
it's the perfect temperature...
for a barbeque!

They say the women,
down in that old inferno...
are all very hot!

if you get to choose,
don't pick the hell where they are...
all drinking coffee!

And if they ask you,
where you want to vacation...
don't say somewhere hot!

CAPTAIN AMERICA

Who is Captain America,
and where is he today?
Things may have been bad years ago,
we’ve heard many folks … say.

Don’t know, I was a baby,
and I wasn’t a boy.
Never heard of him, didn’t play
with super hero … toy.

How wonderful have a hero.,
one who will always win.
One who loves and upholds justice,
who really does … hate sin.

One who is always a constant,
World, on him, can depend.
One who can stand up to violence,
and also be …. a friend.

Captain America’s image,
certainly needs, name change
Captain Universe, now better,
reflects a larger … range.

My hero doesn’t wear a star,
on his shield or his chest.
When I give you his credentials,
you’ll know … why he’s the best.

Captain America, and He,
always stood for what’s right.
My hero has Scepter and Crown,
true hero … day and night.

He paid a ransom for our life,
gave his for ours, His fame
He’s not Captain America,
Christ Jesus … is His name.

Grand Piano

Grand Piano
Exquisite
For my soul
a true delight
Anticipation rising
for the pianist
to arrive
Upon his stool
so comfortable
flexed fingers
and closed eyes
No music sheet
knows every note
and plays complete
Concerto
Looking up
A baton raised
Fingers are alive
I’m in another place
Transported to Utopia
Conductress
asks of violins
A gentle
calm refrain
Then cellos add
a depth of sound
music playing all around
Crescendo
takes on hidden depths
Pulls me in
My tears doth flow
Rachmaninoff
reaches deep
into my heart
into my soul
A magical spell
'tis played
upon
Exquisite
Grand Piano

Twixt Christmas Eve and New Year

‘Twixt Christmas Eve and New Year
A time to reflect or regret
We ate and drank too much methinks
when family and friends we met
We remember loved ones no longer here
Fast approaching the end of another year

As the clock begins to strike
On the very dot of midnight
We are praying Covid 19 goes away
And stepping out to breathe
the freshest cleanest air
For years we took for granted you and me
And longing once again to be mask free

Life ne’er can be the same
since COVID 19 came
Are you and I the ones
to really take the blame
Or was the sign from up above
to show Mother Earth more love
For to care ~ not to destroy
appreciate ~ and to enjoy
Our Mother Earth for all that she is worth...

Premium MemberThe Virus

Began so promising
As thoughts of a new year approached
Some called it a year of new beginnings and clarity
That 20/20 vision of sorts

Unknown and foreign
You found your origins in a faraway land
Yet soon enough, you would break the barriers of
Race, class, religion, and international borders
YEAH! You’re indiscriminate

Lock down, shut down and shortages
A daily struggle we endured
The knowledge of your existence, coupled with fear
Put the world on notice that we were in control of NOTHING

You wrestled even the healthiest to their breaking point
Them now depending on machines to inhale and exhale
You took the weakest and oldest, showing no mercy
Masks, gloves, tissue, sanitizer; even Lysol and Clorox
Became luxury items

Almost two years later
Vaccinations, side effects and still, MASKS
Are a daily reminder that
Covid made it’s way to every point of the world

And still; we are in control of NOTHING

Premium MemberI Feel Cherished

My eyes are not open
Yet I know I am being watched
I know not who
But I feel it is a friendly entity

Perhaps the one that sat on the bed last night
I felt it go down, and I knew someone was here
Frightening the first time it happened
Not any more

I feel protected, loved, cherished
Hello, I say I wish I could see you.
I open my left eye, but there is no one
I feel their ambiance, and recognize I am beloved.

It is more than enough.
Thank you, I tell them.
Thank you.

Premium MemberI Am Until I Am Not

My soul is more than I believe it is
and greater than I can imagine
It is until it is not

My soul is beyond my understanding
it is beyond my comprehension

My soul lays quiet in its being
as it touches the woven threads of life
as it creates its likeness

My soul is light, My soul is darkness
and the distance between can never be measured
It knows the secrets of eternity
as it is tethered to the ethereal heartbeat
that beats in all things

My soul is beyond my human mind
it never thinks
rather it absorbs
and in this absorption becomes a universe unto itself

My soul is like the soft breath of a butterfly
it is the eternal wellspring
which hides beneath the desert
when found can nourish my thirst

My soul spans the whole of time
yet is smaller than a grain of sand

My soul is yesterday, it is tomorrow
My soul is not mine to keep
rather take care of and borrow
