“Post Pep Comics”
In this time,
there are no children -
we refer to them as the 'undead'.
The young watch on
while their gods war on, it’s all televised,
committing abominable atrocities, war crimes.
Like ancient souls held in the palms
of the war machine they watch on
like zombies, vacant things
scrolling, weighing their relevance
against those dressed in designer ozempic scales, while worlds away
the third-class child attends their lessons in starvation,
surviving death and bullets
trafficked and war torn, raped and
psychologically taken,
click bait;
bleeding into the small tight margins
of Western comics where the Eagle always wins.
Archie and Jughead dispense their puerile rules,
rating us like commodities, stocks that rise and fall;
it’s all entertainment
after all.

when accused of blither-blather
seek shelter in the moment, rather
than plunge right in confrontationally
into a bottomless pit of calumny
remember to count to ten again and again
ramp it up to a thousand, don’t pretend
if you’re still hot, don’t plead that you’re not
or let bygones be bygones and all that rot
‘coz the chickens always come home to roost
when and if you’re still juiced
you just might slice that swollen face wide open, catsup-red
then hallucinate as into grinning spiders it is shhh-RED

Archie did cartwheels for Veronica
Jughead even played his harmonica ~
But Veronica’s Jewish
Leaving two suitors bluish ~
Steinberg made her latkes for Chanukah

'Latkes' are potato pancakes, a traditional
Chanukah treat.
Why did Archie keep running after Veronica?
Betty was the nice one.
And she was blonde.
Why was Reggie’s mouth always drawn into a sneer?
Did they want him to look cruel?
Why did they want Jughead to appear stupid?
Oddly enough, I never questioned why
Betty and Veronica were both drawn like Vargus pinup girls.
Maybe because I was used to Barbie dolls in 1959.
Archie, trembling, went to bed
envisioning Veronica’s lips of red
Imagine his surprise when instead
~ Jughead there stopped him dead
Momma said
Go ahead
Be misled
By jughead
That egghead.
So I did
Keeping Kidd,
Getting rid
Of bad id
Was redid.

In the realm of comic book tales
There's a town called Riverdale
Where Archie Andrews hangs out with his friends
Riverdale High is the school they attend
Archie's best pal is Jughead Jones
He's the guy with lazy bones
Then there's dorky Ethel Muggs
She's got a crush on Jug
There's Dilton Doiley, he's a nerd
And "DUH" is Moose's favorite word
Reggie seeks Veronica's affection
But seems to be in love with his own reflection!
Betty is the girl next door
Archie is the one that she adores
Veronica is the spoiled rich girl
Who wants to rock Archie's world

He died a hero's death. He sacrificed his own life to save that of a friend.
Betty, Veronica, Jughead and Reggie had all been his friends since the begining.
Which friend's life did he save? Was it one of them?
No one will know until this July when Archie Andrews' legacy ends.
A comic book icon since 1941.
Rest In Peace Archie Andrews.

the poor and rich girls
Betty and Veronica ?
I advise you to take a
comic book trip
They are not just for children
“Sugar Sugar” had a sound so fine.
It was a popular hit song of 1969.
That was not all we were going to hear.
“Jingle Jangle” was released the following year.
However, one element was wrong.
Cartoon characters recorded each song.
There was Archie, Reggie, Jughead, Veronica, and Betty.
They were seen and heard on Saturday morning TV.
In a live concert we would never see
these band members performing each melody.
Their sound many folks considered terrific.
