Do you recall where you were at
the day that Johnny raced the bat?
I was but a lad of eight.
A bat shot out of Hell, damned straight.
Johnny flew like an outbound freight.
A front row seat is where I sat
the day that Johnny raced the bat.

You must be someone new
Another Johnny Appleseed
Leaving flowers wherever you walk
So, please travel the world
Bring life and beauty wherever you go
And we will remember your name
Johnny Flowerseed

Uncle Johnny’s stories were preposterous
borderline silly
but we pretended to believe
for Aunt Tilly’s sake
She never challenged his foolishness
Pretending his insanity was normal
We did not understand why
but we played along, letting her lead the way

Johnny was quite a leader
And best pet of the teacher
Puberty hit him so fast
At the head of the class
His little Willy stood up, second feature

Johnny sat bored at a swimming parade,
became thirsty watching the retrograde.
Dipped his head in the pool.
but felt like such a fool.
Silly boy thought it was blue Gatorade!

I lost my hair and I lost my pep
That's why I lost the spring in my step
But I couldn't go on
When my manhood was gone
And I lost my wife to Johnny Depp

Admire a Summer Flower Contest

Hey, Johnny Jump Up,
Mischievous elf,
Your look like Viola,
Not like yourself.
Same shape, same colors -
Before our eyes,
Your yellow and purple,
Quite the disguise.
Vibrant, bright colors
Painted on your five petals
Love, luck and happiness
Your gifts on us settles,
You love the warm meadows
And cool ocean breezes
Magician of summer
You won't make us sneeze.

Entry for the Golden Age of Music Poetry Contest, sponsored by Oliver McKeithan, March 2025, Second Place.
I dreamed of Johnny Cash last night,
his music spoke to me,
I said I thought that you were dead,
but music lives said he,
but music lives said he.
From Folsom, to Fort Bend,
for every soul behind bars,
he asked if we could say a prayer,
then picked up his guitar,
then picked up his guitar.
He sung to me of Ira Hayes,
words that rung in my ears,
the world of reservations,
with all those rivers of tears,
with all those rivers of tears.
We talked and talked of music,
country, hip hop and blues,
how Bo Diddley and Beyoncé,
can move our blue suede shoes,
can move our blue suede shoes.
I dreamed of Johnny Cash last night
surprised to see him back,
I said I thought that you were dead,
but he was still dressed in black,
but he was still dressed in black.

Some years had passed since I last sat and talked with Johnny
Grandma used to say, "With time, things change and people change."
But I couldn't help but notice that his days were no longer sunny
Now, to know Johnny was like knowing the sun
That light, the radiance, that energy, the hope we all look for was no more
Is it me I asked?
Could my eyes be deceiving me?
But where did it go? That shine, that magnificent glow
Where did my buddy, go?
What happened to Johnny?

Remember Johnny Rotten?
One time star of stage and screen.
His legend now forgotten,
And his films are seldom seen.
Studied movies and the arts,
Before shining on the stage.
Then his name would top the charts,
In Hollywood's Golden Age.
Loved fast women and fast cars,
He raced through life full throttle.
Though too many were in bars,
And fell prey to the bottle.
All the women and the booze,
Caused the decline of his fame.
Then with nothing else to lose,
Would die alone from his shame.
He's no longer in the light,
And his fate may seem unjust.
Once a candle burning bright,
Now a flicker in the dust.

Johnny Depp had a stonking step
That caused shiver like a strep
Once a pirate, captain of the black pearl
His charm caused his fans to twirl

Johnny Rocko was born to be a salesman.
His words are breezy.
He has a devil-may-care attitude.
His ways are playful and jaunty.
He is the pied piper of Chicago.
Other young men rush to buy his wares.
They love his schemes, his ideals and his ideas.
He wines and dines them, and they have a great time.
Some of them have been cut off from their inheritance.
They stick around anyway; he is the sun. They bask next to him.
Johnny Rocko is debonair and delightfully dashing.
He is a rakish playboy-like salesman.
It does not matter what he is selling, people want to buy.
He always has beautiful women rubbing his back.
Most of them are like him, attractive and unrestrained.

Here comes a bit of blarney for you
I looked up and saw the boy named Stew
He was known for tall tales and lies.
One of those entertaining Irish guys.
Saw Johnny Cash at the pub just now.
He rode in on a donkey, or maybe a cow.
This was the tamest tale that he told.
Next he said he had found the leprechaun’s gold.
His tales were getting a bit better every year.
This was said by my aunt with the magic mirror.
See you later, said Stew, got to go to the parade.
“In Dublin probably!” yelled out the upstairs maid.
Johnny Cash came out of the tavern then.
He gave Stew a tweak under his chin.
Let’s go get that gold, so we can get to Dublin, okay?
The rest of us were totally blown away.

Johnny Boffo was a comic's comic.
Johnny, JB to his friends,
had the late night crowd in stitches
with a variety of one-liners
and amusing anecdotes.
After his last set he
left the Comedy Barn
and while crossing the street
to his motel room
was struck and killed
by a speeding cattle truck.
They say he died happy;
but I kinda of doubt it.
