The coffee mug
that my ex-wife bought in London
has come to America.
Its printed message says, "Best Dad Ever."
30 years of morning coffee later
hot Java clears sleep from a clogged throat.
This day, I ponder on the merits
on not being the worst dad ever.
Luckily there are no mug logos
that convey only partial truths.

Quitting coffee and should it kill me
Want to say that it's been fun
Sidled up to this specific teat
Not long after my first weaning done
My body trying to clue me in
As I clung to my drug of choice
No longer willing to continue
In stifling my tired kidney's voice
Just read it slows down the flow of lymph
to a toddling terrapin crawl
Immunities highway like that of L.A.'s
Cannot abide it you all
My plan to reduce to a cup a day
Followed by a day after another
It's warmth will be missed the aroma as well
As a weanling ripped from its mother (sob)
Truthfully not looking forward to
Shifting to water and herbal teas
Saying goodbye to my old friend caffeine
Long considered the hairy bee's knees

As prose and verses are fabled,
the rain cats and dogs.
Love is endorphinated,
hug Dutch wife tightly.
A cup of Java,
occupied.
Nice?

That first cup of java is there anything finer
Than the aroma that wafts past your nose at the diner
It's a joy unsurpassed
It's a sensory blast
But it's even finer sipping java in my recliner

I am merely the pot that holds you
But you
You are the coffee bean that gives me purpose
The rich succulent flavor I crave in the morning
The aromatic scent that keeps me adoring
The warmth that entices my soul
The breath that keeps me whole
But without you
There is no motivation
No wholesome sensation
No loving temptation
So I cherish every drop
Of your love I'd never swap
And your eyes just assures me
My love could never stop

Saturday morning, coffee in bed.
Waking up to puggies,
Wanting to be let out.
Yes, Saturday morning
One of my favorite days!
Weekend has arrived.
What will the day bring?
Upon my arrival,
From starry eyed dreams,
Your warmth beside me,
Comforted and sleepy head!
Casting off my silken cooling blanket,
Finding you hiding there.
A lovely dawn surprise,
To your warmth right there.
Emanating your aurora,
Such passionate morning embrace,
Rays of translucent spirit, energies from above.
Never sleeping on frustrations,
Not drifting off with stress,
Laying down in your arms,
So safe and secure.
As one intertwined heart,
Becoming closer together,
Where does your skin end?
Where does mine begin?
Never wanting to be far apart,
Strong as a couple,
Ever and ever complete.
None of the cool emotions
Many people find.
Glowing face do I find,
Bright smile, first early traces.
After peaceful rest,
Our mutual affections.
To experience your awaking
Lovingly in your eyes,
I find myself there!

Coffee in hand,
steam rises to warm our cool noses;
as we saunter through orange poppies,
the tall white Birch whispers to us
through the quiet breeze,
the green Eucalyptus creaks with perilous murmurs
a glittering granite rock appears to wink at us
from the strong rays of the
radiant
sun.

There once was a boy
Named Java Lava Joy.
One day Java was climbing a mountain
To get to the fountain
At the mountain top.
Suddenly he heard a bop!
Then came bursting so much lava
Down the side of the mountain that Java
screamed with terror!
He wasn't aware of the lava's color
Or the lava's burning heat!
Java jumped off the mountain
and landed on his feet!
He ran to his mother,
packed their bags, took some other
family members, and caught a plane.
Even though he would rather
go stay with his brother
than stay with his aunt and uncle,
Aunt Rant and Uncle Runckle.
They'd prepared for lava over ten years
The thought made his eyes filled with tears!
But everything was better when they got there
And after a while he did not care.

My day ain't complete sans a cuppa java
And it must be as blisterin' hot as flowin' lava

Addicted? Who me?
Could stop any time
One cup a day?
Would do me just fine
Aside from the shakes
Freaking out now and then
Craving that fix
Going off the deep end
Trust me I'm fine
Not being deceitful
Shakes aren't a problem
'Cept threading a needle
But I'll have to admit
Some lives have been ruined
Caffeine's the nemesis
Cut down on the brewin'
Whoever discovered it
Was a downright putz
To cause so much grief
With one li'l ole cup!
