Amid the fire of twilight sun
I wish I knew my way
horizon’s char and moonlight’s shun
has ashed my hope I pray
for dark cloud constellation to free
a cosmic steed for me to flee gunshot streets
for primrose to steal my yellow jaundice
and burn the itch with incense of roadside stars
for me to follow scent and sight
and find forsaken door
to open with my key contrite
a waif who’s lost no more
but gods of dirt and sky refuse
this pessimist with optimist dreams
side-of-road primrose mowed as needle holes
grow my nebulae-scars of blown-vein bruises
a morphine horse runs dirty track
while stars in alley air
just stare and offer not but black
expanse —my nowhere lair

The yin and yang
Of heavy heart
Orange female tiger
Male azure dragon with spark
Jubilant jaded laugh
Inside jaundice jokes
One can follow one’s path
Face what lies ahead with hope
It cannot be helped
You must weather storm
Life isn’t always fair
Always be in true form
Let go and let God
Grannie sings with faith
Be sure to guard heart
Save for rainy day
Do you learn white wisdom
From elegant emerald elders
Are you led by mission
Experience of life a welder’s
Fire to flaming silver steel
Molding you into amethyst art
However you may fuchsia feel
For growth we need light and dark

To those wrapped up in pitfalls of own,
E’en pretty appears pedestrian.
To him down with jaundice,
With pallid prejudice,
Even moon-white conch looks dullish wan.
______________________________
Translation |20.09.2024| pitfalls, pretty, prejudice
Poet’s note: Sanskrit has thousands of verses of wisdom called Subhashhitam. He who is wrapped up in pitfalls of his own, suffers prejudice. To him even what is pretty appears pedestrian. Even a moon-white conch to him will look ashy wan. The transliteration of the Sanskrit verse follows:
Nija doshha-aavrita manasaam, ati sundaram eva bhaati viparitam |
Pashhyati pitta-upahatah shashi-shubhram shankham api pitam ||

I was never fond of the word or the color
it reminded me of ceiling stains in cheap hotels
infinite shades of latrine piss
bony cigarette fingertips
grandpa's stage 4 jaundice
the forever scar of cowardice...
I'm contemplating painting the kitchen
in this forbidden color.
I'll have to pray on it awhile
...it's a critical decision
maybe the most important of my existence.
The evolution of my inbred forgiveness and
hobbled optimism heavily depends upon it.

Mom
Poem
Lionel Derbyshire
MOM !!
My first shout out loud...
Where is my metal
When i am weak
Where is my coastline
From the deep...
Where is the fountainhead
Of our parenthood
Her heart is never locked
She rubs my ear
When I fear
With vow to love me
In solemn oath.
Where is my flawless
My entire vital wrap
My loyal guardian..
Who makes me golden.
My blanket when
I am cold..
MOM !!
I shout out loud...
Where is my trumpet call
In her shawl
She shouts from the hall
Our pact is unbreakable
In my babyhood of
Sore, cut and bleed
She be my nurse.
The jaundice, fever and the pox
She cure's it all away
Where is my night call
The tissue to my cry
My songster so enjoyable
Who tucks me in with lullabye
Where is the little
That I know
From the one that brought
Me up to grow
MOM !!
I shout out loud...
Dad you are my food cart
Your place is high
In the house..
But MOM is my
My shout out loud...
First hero in this world
And my first cry out for help
Will always be ..
MOM !
My triumphant call.

Stance I before her
Jaundice eyes glaring
Pangs Joy succulent
Juices flows her face
Shines bright she is light
~
With sun beaming down
Her lips wet and moist
Her heart beats and thrust
I am nourish flask
of wine bottled in...
~
Time sweet divine blend
Succulent spices
Juices flows her face
Shuns shines ever bright
Joy succulent juices
~
Jaundice eyes glaring
Pangs stance I before her…
Like a river a flowing
Jaundice eyes glaring
Stance I before her

spring hands over her bleach gowns to summer
environment grows pale green ---
cosmos under rebirth
earth tries color revolutions and fails
jaundice yellow leaf lips crack ---
no chill thrill in grass blades
Nestlings of sparrows feel hot in nestles
cuckoos from crow nests escape ---
cocoon covers hang free

When I first heard the words
I relinquish The whispers
Caveat promenade
Mine sight suddenly raised
Come before me relentless
Quiet sparks extinguish the dark
Radiant confident
Alphabetical jaundice
Words gathered roughly spoken

You blow me away autumn breeze
Starting off warm and then cooling
Jade jacket or black cherry coat fooling
What to wear is a song wind choosing
And the leaves jingle a farewell
Dancing a dreamy jaundice jig mid air
Beauty in an abandoned snail shell
Or half naked bushes trees as well
October you play me so
Like a silver flute or brown cello
You give birth to fall’s hope
Beautiful pause from summer’s cloak.

Four brothers brought up to revere God and love country.
From Rockford, Illinois, a close suburb of Chicago.
Frank, who grew up to be a Marine.
Ralph, who joined the Army and John, an Air Force man.
Their letters home can be found if you google
“The Abandoned History of Four”
Their only surviving relative a second cousin,
A woman who recognizes the value of their letters.
They express the horrors of WWII, the air raids, the submarines,
“The Japs and nasty Germans raiding without warning”
They take you through Pearl Harbor, a particularly nasty day.
You get a feel for the terror, and the aftermath of what they lived through.
None of the three brothers married or had children.
Frank was sent home with malaria and jaundice, and had mental problems.
Ralph and John were probably in similar states.
Optimistic, patriotic soldiers who lived their truth.
At the expense of their futures.
