It seems like yesterday.
When you were to be our first born
We waited for your birth
Two brand new grandmothers that morn.
You took your time, but then we knew.
You had arrived safely and sound
We each held you our precious girl.
Our smiles and joy they knew no bound.
You are our great delight.
We’ve watched you grow up through the years.
A woman you’ve become.
Our love shines brightly through our tears.
With tears of happiness
Congratulations we both say!
Now Twenty-One, how can that be.
It seems like Yesterday.
Marina, Motherina, Baba, Mum!
Reflect upon what your life has become:
Born in Harbin to refugee Russians,
Tossed out by Mao, with mild repercussions.
Aussie girl, country girl, raised by grandmas,
And grandpa and parents (both pains in her ****).
Small school, to high school with penguin-ed nuns,
Bespeckled and bikeless - childhood is done!
Went off to college at Melbourne Uni,
Made friends, stole a goat and earned a degree.
Entered the workforce for airliner doomed,
Later a teaching position assumed.
Married a beardy fresh in from Hungry
(also a Russian circuitously)...
Moved to the suburbs - East of the border,
Had a few children (not in that order).
Two in-laws out back, who helped with offspring,
Replaced by her mum, who started writing.
Son and two daughters, she raised to adult,
Some better than others - not all her fault.
Each offspring took flight, with their other half.
All but the youngest, who forged her own path.
Some grandkids were born, they grew up a bit,
Throw in some church stuff and that's about it.

Written for my deceased grandmother: Purification C. Ferrer
In Manila, where work fills my days,
I’d visit for your birthday in so many ways.
I'd ask what you'd like to eat,
Papa would always say healthy,
but Jollibee was your treat.
Ignoring his advice with a quiet scheme,
You insisted “healthy lacks the dream”
This year, with an excuse in mind,
I missed your calls, a regret I find
On sunny days, meetings took my time,
On rainy ones, I chose sleep's climb.
Gloomy days slipped through, on silent phone,
Multiple times you called, I left them alone
In shadows of regret, where pain resides
Waiting for me, your patient heart
I’m sorry Mama a profound impart
I'm sorry, Mama, I wasn’t there
I’m sorry Mama, with all regrets
People say the dead can't hear, yet
Still, I pray my sorry reaches you, oh dear
I’m sorry Mama Ta with all my heart and sincere
And as Daddy CF would always say,
“I love you with all my heart”
In our reply, a sentiment clear
“I love you forever & ever"
I do not know what normal looks like on grandparents
I have the ice cream social sugar cream pink peach ones
And I have the orange striped circus leopard grandparents
Today my ice cream social grandparents visited my birthday party
I thought your other grandparents were weird until now Kathy said.
Thank you! I replied, glad she realizes now these outdo the others.
What could I bring you Gran?
This did her heart good.
But she did not need anything.
Just come back safe, she told her grandson.
He did.
Over and over and over.
Forty years later he was still coming back safe.
The last few years he had brought her flowers.
Sunflowers, roses, daisies, lavender, lilies,
Lilac, cone flowers, zinnias, he was a thoughtful grandson.
At the age of sixty-two his heart wore out.
But on her birthday there were flowers.
From your grandson in heaven, it read.
She smiled for a week.
After grandma’s death, no one could find grandma's best earrings.
Pink pearled delights that grandma liked best, they were quite rare.
Gram’s best friend Jenny helped us look; but they were nowhere found.
We accused each other of stealing, three granddaughters, playing around.
The other two had not visited Grandma after she got sick.
Even at Christmas, making up a variety of excuses, many slick.
On my birthday I received a package with a return address from Gram.
She had sent me her pink pearl earrings; this felt like a grand slam.
I asked Jenny about it and she said, sorry, honey, I am sworn to secrecy.
Don’t wear them around the other two, just between Gram, you and me.
She blew the candles
after she was ninety, feet on the earth, mind distorded by the counted years.
She still blew the candles with the only ones she feels as strangers.
With the ones that love her and she doesn't know.
Waiting for her dad, mum and husband, that have already gone.
Waiting for her son to find his life before she goes.
She blew her candles with many worries, she had a birthday without her parents, husband and the ones on her mind.
She didn't count the ones she was with, because her life is ibetween the steps.
She was sad blowing the candles, because she doesn't know how many steps she is going to make or how far her wings are going to fly.
The nest is made, the chicks are grown old and her partner flew to the next level.
She blew the candles surrounded by her beloved ones, instead she felt alone while she was blowing to nowhere.
I wrote this poem to say
Happy Birthday grandma, now you are 69,
no matter how old you get whenever you wake up 4:00am is the time.
You have aged so well in these years,
you are stronger and braver
than all your peers.
You have done so many cool things
in your life, you have visited almost the entire
Europe, and you have visited many countries,
but meat and chicken is what you dislike.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY is what I say again,
a good age and health is my wishes that
you should gain
Women in my family
Now, only their memories remain
Queens of my humble domain.
My grandma was always there
Warmness in her presence felt,
I’d call her anything but svelte!
She died when I was only fifteen
My mom, a saint, loved like no other
Couldn’t have been a better mother.
Born on my sis’s seventh birthday
We were always exceptionally close
Sister was always the most verbose.
Where would I be today…
Without the guidance of these three
Utmost in my most vivid memory.

Happy Birthday Grandma
We knew each other without knowing
Great Kingdom
Unbelievable
Beauty You know
The promenade on foot
Good
God at our side
Our world here
It's a paradise
Thank you
A boy with a toy, a girl with a curl
each more precious than a necklace of pearls
Birthday boy's face all covered with cake
blew out the candle, then took a break
Mommy is hopping from kitchen to table
Dad's helping too, as much as he's able
But grandma and grandpa are the stars of the show
Playing 'Happy Birthday to You' on dueling banjos
GRANDSON-IN-LAW
This wish is filled with lots of fun
For my grandson-in-law Andrew
He will turn 37 in the year of 2021
And will carry a few memories too
He married my granddaughter
Becoming my grandson-in-law
He is a loving husband and father
Now he even calls me grandma
I’m glad to have him in our family
Sending many blessings his way
For him to be more than happy
As he enjoys this special birthday
Love, Grandma Flo
Amusing and entertaining leaving you in rolling laughter with humorous poetry; a gentle soft soul, nutty and charming. Quote by: Poet
"Just thinkin", will it be the year;
"A gift to last a lifetime" appear.
"New baby", I'd love and hold most, dear.
"A Valentine wedding", red roses and lace.
"Letting go" down new paths, find their place.
"Love changes everything" in everlasting grace.
"I've Fallen In Love", never dreamed I'd be a grandmother.
"September" my ballerina was born like no other.
"October bliss" a year later a little brother.
"No, I'm not kidding", I made a birthday request for another.

Happy Birthday to me
Without you being here
Just doesn’t sound right
Just doesn’t seem clear
How is it true
That Happy Birthday could be
Why would you think so
Without you here with me
It never was fancy
Elaborate or grand
But you made me feel special
With just a meal by your hand
Every year from now on
I can tell you what’s true
My one Birthday wish
Is one more Birthday with you
Happy 14th Birthday
