With a gentle hand

This is a classic story to share.
About the best grandmother ever
She was the person who truly cared.

Back when I was still a little girl
When nays are not that old
She buys me a wooden slipper.
Together we tend her garden

She's a good storyteller.
We are never bored with her.
She got our back when we needed her.
Every problem we have, she's always there.

She always carries her magic purse.
Inside there are lots of stored memories.
Bobbies pins, gums, receipts and more
Old notes, mirrors, even photos galore
Reading glasses and lipstick all in there.

Our grandmother has a magic wand
That makes us smell delicious air.
Cooking us our favorite meals to share
For every summer all her grandchildren
Will come to her house to gather
Our dinner is always full of laughter.

Everywhere she goes, I'm with her.
All the things that we do together
It is a memory that we'll always remember.
We all grew up with her love and care.

Sharing with every piece of her
The love she gave us is so rare.
In our hearts she stays with us through prayer.

JEWELL.
Precious.
Beautiful.

Grandma; safe haven.
Always knew what to do.
Her faith was deeply profound.

"Her maker guided her home."

Premium Membermy grandma's disremembered stories

grandma, the family storyteller
in old age would forget
so her stories changed with the retelling
but an essence of truth remained
her voice echoes in my heart

was each story semantic to grandma
new in ambiguity to her
with random memories merging

I am the storyteller now
looking into the calm reflective waters of time
seeking recollected memories that echo

my words specular with reflected words
I am that girl at the kitchen table
listening to her musical voice impacting me
I wonder did she realize her life ending
did she want to give me her gift

I often escape into her fugue of melodic telling
her unexpected memory with all the beautiful failures

that perhaps only I who wished to be like her
who knew her stories told over years would grasp

Premium MemberBy the squeaky old gate that tomorrow will find

Why do we call the good old days,
good?
Grandma was always talking,
talking about the days that had passed.
I wonder if they were really that good,
or does our mind play a trick on us?

Grandma loved sitting on her porch,
looking out over her land in her rocking chair.
Now the old rustic white fence,
is falling down from the last storm.
Her once beautiful flowers are all dead,
dead just like her.

"By the squeaky old gate that tomorrow will find,"
sits an old tan and orange alley cat.
Oh how she loved to feed her stray cats,
then play with their furry kittens.
Will the squeaky old gate find a new tomorrow,
or be torn down and rebuilt with cement?

A Grandmother's Eid

The sun rose gently, soft and warm,
But the house feels quiet, missing her charm.
Eid mornings filled with light and grace,
Now hold echoes of her smiling face.

She'd sit by the door, hands soft and old,
A shawl wrapped tight against the cold.
Her eyes would shine with joy anew,
As we lined up, eager for what we knew.

A crisp ten-rupee note, folded with care,
Slipped into our hands with a loving stare.
To the world, it was small – just a simple bill,
But in our hearts, it holds value still.

We’d run and laugh, feeling so grand,
That tiny treasure safe in hand.
To her, it wasn’t the amount she gave,
But the love and blessings that she saved.

Now Eid arrives, but she’s not here,
Her absence is sharp, yet love draws near.
I close my eyes and I can see,
Her gentle smile, watching over me.

The ten rupees may fade away,
But the memories will always stay.
Her kindness lingers, soft and deep,
A love eternal, ours to keep.

So as we gather, side by side,
We know she’s with us, full of pride.
And every Eid, in hearts and prayer,
We found our great-grandmother there.

Premium MemberA Mother's Love

When you are born, a Mother will watch over you with a Godly touch
She will fulfill your every need because she loves you so much

A Mother is never afraid she will give you everything you need
Her main thing is to keep her child from being weak

A Mother love is not temporary it's always full-time
Even when you think she doesn't care, you're always on her mind

A Mother is so nurturing she lives her life without fear
Taking care her children, maintaining a household throughout the years

Even after you're grown, a Mother's love won't stop
She will call you every hour of every day around the clock

So enjoy your Mother, be proud, and don't ever disappoint her
Because some people have lost their mother, and they can't even see theirs

Riding Hood Truth or Dare

Why Little Red Riding Hood
Seems you're steppin' out
Dodgin' bullets and pullin' clout
And what happened to the Grandma stop
Did she want you out?
The whole forest heard her shout
So come on, what was that all about?

Ohh my hooded and cloaked babydoll
You are a vision of vixen
An icon of dazzling brilliance, beautiful and thrilling
Your hot breath on my neck is chilling
Blackness, Darkness in a jar
Your Ying with my Yang
Playin' chicken in different cars
Together we could go so far
So why then are we slammin' shots in this dive bar?

Little Red Ridin' Hood, with thigh-high red leather boots
Long red gloves, blood-red lips, and eyes of black
A David Bowie moment or a panic attack
Take it all back
Cuz diz fairy tale been cracked
And a poetic daybreak is a matter of fact
So you go girl
Little Red Ridin' Hood hit that trail, I got yer back
And the brothers Grimm - well they'll be checkin' in
Dealin' Sin and with the help of all things heinous and supernatural
Let the games begin
White horse, black heart, Little Red Ridin' Hood
Take your start

Wherever You May Be

I’m angry that you’re gone, and
I’m angry that I don’t know where you are;
although you were definitely made of stardust,
or whatever glistens on the moon.

Regretful, confused, perhaps because I don’t know
if I’ll ever see you again
and the indefinite promise that you’re gone

is quite honestly terrifying,
mesmerizing, I get lost in the thought
of you being anywhere, somewhere.

I’m angry with the promise of a “better place” -
that you were always sure of -
but that I cannot fathom.

What better of a place,
than here with me,
instead of in the uncertainty
that follows me around like a lonely ghost.

I hope that it’s you that follows me, but then again, I don’t
because I’d rather feel you in the summer rays,
in the wispy wind
in the watercolor sunset, feathered with clouds

in your favorite songs while I fly down the freeway
with tears slipping down my cheeks
as quickly as you slipped away.

I’d rather feel you in my heart,
in my bones,
and in each beautiful part of life,
because I know that’s where you’d want to be.

Premium MemberGrandma's Picture

Upon first entering, there's a picture of a lion sitting, staring, and scrutinizing all who enter.
Next, your eyes are drawn to a beautiful picture of a white house backed
by trees and embroidered with a myriad of eye-catching flowers. As you
take a seat at the dinning table, a painting on the wall greets you with
power and solemnity. It's a lion's head, cheek to cheek with the head of
Christ crowned with thorns. Near the fire place, a much smaller and less
colorful picture hangs. It's a picture of my grandmother sitting in a
wheel chair with hospital tags still on her wrist. She smiles with no sign
of care as a great grandson leans over her shoulder. Next to the front door
hangs a picture of, not suggestions, but the 10 commandments.

If it were mandated that only one picture could remain, grandma's picture
wins hands down. You see, it was grandma who shielded and protected me;
who comforted and reassured me, loving me unconditionally. Yes, it's grandma.
My final answer.

Premium MemberGRANDMA’S LEVERAGE

Gone on to glory
Left a story
Grandson, Rain only lasts a moment
Sunshine brings the joy of what is to come
You are never alone
As you learn, life will be known
There will be days of sadness and despair
Your Heavenly Father is always near
When you kneel and pray things begin to change
It becomes a rearrange
Grandma’s experiences what gave wisdom
I am now up in the Heavenly Kingdom
You will fall, but always get up
Don’t complain
Negative things will remain
Always put Christ first
Never in reverse
Storms will come and go
You will get to know
Understanding in life will flow
Just be assured and be patient
Your blessings will radiate
Grandma knows
Your encouragement was the show
Hold on to Faith
Someday you will deliver your own show and tell
Your own wonders will turn out swell
Grandma can agree to that
Remember Grandma’s words, “Turning Point to Living”.

FOR LUCY

What a wonder you are!
A gift from the universe,
The practical one.
Always so poised
Even when afraid
You are your mother’s child
Always knowing what you want
And getting what you need.
Your star will never burn out.
In your quest to succeed
There was never a question.
A friend, a daughter, and more
Now a bride, beautiful in lace.
My heart swells with pride and love.

Premium MemberMiss Carden

A happy day for you I’m sure,
A most lucky day to enjoy,
You are a double grandma now.
You have a new bundle of joy!

Apples, peaches, pears, or plums,
Or any other kind of fruit
Are not as sweet as Julie is,
Or as adorable or cute!

Bright sunflowers, fragrant roses
Or what grows up in your garden
Can never be as lovely as
The beautiful Miss Carden!

Premium MemberA Grandmother Remembering

Where have all the moments gone,
As fresh as a summer breeze!
That kissed newborn, fresh, emerald
leavees on Chicago’s trees.

Whatever became of my expansive,
Blond desk, that smelled of fresh wood?
Or, my white and black saddle shoes?
I’d wear them, ah, if only I could!

What about all my fun and convivial high
School fun, and class of friends?
I imagine them all, now grandmas on
Family-blessed, weekends!

What great satisfaction, to know that this,
My beautiful, bright, and so blessed progeny,
Will carry me with then in spirit and
Humble works, rest with them, so poetically!

Premium MemberSonnet Celebrating International Women's Day

With wings of golden starlight your spirits flare
Each woman burst forth a steadfast astral pyre
Your valiant souls are / defying / confining
      the tethered snare
Like distant suns that are piercing the boundless mire
With hearts unyielding you are shatter iron grates
Your unshackled wings where shadows once confined
And in your touch,
      love's caresses, gentle graces
A serenade of voices, together
      softly intertwined.

Through time's grand halls your histories reside
Your footprints pressing...
     on ever-shifting sands
With every single verse
     a truth you cannot hide
For you mend the world with...
     steady guiding hands
O gracious women, blessed with beauty /
     fierce and bold.
In every realm
      your being we cherish
            and behold.
