Sonnet Celebrating International Women's Day

With wings of golden starlight your spirits flare
Each woman burst forth a steadfast astral pyre
Your valiant souls are / defying / confining
      the tethered snare
Like distant suns that are piercing the boundless mire
With hearts unyielding you are shatter iron grates
Your unshackled wings where shadows once confined
And in your touch,
      love's caresses, gentle graces
A serenade of voices, together
      softly intertwined.

Through time's grand halls your histories reside
Your footprints pressing...
     on ever-shifting sands
With every single verse
     a truth you cannot hide
For you mend the world with...
     steady guiding hands
O gracious women, blessed with beauty /
     fierce and bold.
In every realm
      your being we cherish
            and behold.

Hello Craig, Thanks for stopping by and I really appreciate your comments. I have been writing poetry for 50+ years and have many poems that I have not posted since I have been here only a year. I am slowly taking either my best works of the past or some of my newer poems and slowly releasing them. So, I do have quite a few sonnets that are more directed toward my wife, daughters, and now granddaughters. What a blessing to get to know your poems now. - Blessings, Daniel

This wonderful tribute to Women on Women's Day will be received by every woman with a lot of joy in her heart. It is true that women have a lot of inner strength and have greater power of intuition. They are ready to undertake any amount of sacrifice. They may be just ordinary women running their households and bringing up children and never in the mainstream of life, performing extraordinary feats. Still, their role is invaluable. Thank you for this wonderful tribute to women in general. I love both quotes by eminent women. Your poems are outstanding dear Daniel.

I am a few days late in thanking you for this lovely tribute Daniel. Several good men in my life acknowledge the strength and perseverance of women. They have given me confidence and assurance in a "man's world"–military, corporate, business, personal life – to be free to work companionably and equitably along side them. I am humbled and gladdened by your sincere words. blessings always :)

Hi Daniel, I responded to this days ago, Sorry, dont know where it went!! Thank you for acknowledging International Woman’s Day, which is today! I give acknowledgment to all those women who are not literary or historic figures at all. But just mothers as if there is, such a being as “just a mother.”who raised families who work, who teach children right from wrong, without which this world would be not even be here! Notoriety does not make the world. Mother do ..in humility. Pangie

"I’ve dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas: they’ve gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the colour of my mind. And this is one: I’m going to tell it—but take care not to smile at any part of it.” The reality, from the female perspective.

Daniel, You composed a beautiful and meaningful tribute to women. They have come a long way from prehistoric days, at least in some parts of the world. Where women have equality, society seems much better. They are free and not something we can possess.

Hey Daniel, your sonnet celebrates the strength, resilience, and grace of women, likening their spirits to threads of golden light and steadfast astral pyres that defy confinement. The imagery of distant suns piercing through boundless mire invokes a sense of hope and determination that shines through even the darkest of times. It speaks to the power of women to break free from societal constraints and limitations, symbolized by the shattering of iron grates and the unfurling of unshackled wings. Their touch is described as a gentle caress that brings forth love and unity, weaving together a serenade of voices in a harmonious chorus.
