Premium Member The Fox and the Grapes

A long time ago on a hot summer's day,
a fox was out strolling his own merry way.
He came to an orchard with blossoms so fine
and, looking up, saw grapes on a high, lofty vine.

"Ah, the very thing to quench my thirst" said he,
with an air that was so nonchalant and carefree.
Walking back a few steps, he took a run and a jump
but just missed the bunch, then landed with a thump.

He tried again and again but made no progress
and became frustrated at his lack of success.
He tried one more time but, to his dismay,
realized it was futile and so walked away.

With his nose in the air and an angry glower,
he grumbled "I am sure that those grapes are just sour."
So please remember these words and have no regret:
It is easy to scorn what you can't get.

Data Centres ain't Cultural Placentass

Each ivory tower needs so much power and water

Society is the fall guy for the pie in the sky AI lie

Cultures savaged ravaged caricatures by vultures

Slyly trying to deflower mother nature’s daughter

Dodgy dealing resources stealing planet’s reeling

Preach each data centre like a cultural placenta

Layers peeling players say mentor no glass ceiling

Am a lamenter of break neck tech wreck dementor

No healing waste from haste paste without feeling

We’ve heard it before the computer is our future

Smoke and mirrors AI on the fly the latest suitor

Us all just a data commuter for a leech not tutor

Beseech purloining then coining no way to teach

The conceit of the deceit is an elite cheat ripsnorter

Train bots brain rots turns us into tots & lots of have nots

Only glower of people power can stop the slaughter

Written: January 07, 2026, for contest by Andrea Dietrich

                *************

Famous for brooding on windswept moors, Heathcliff
could turn a sunny day strangely stiff.
Give him a picnic, warm and bright—
He’d glower at the sandwiches and ruin the light.

Premium Member Not Dead Nightmare On Elm Street Tribute

I’m filled with this feeling of dread
now I see what’s been created.
Through doubt now regenerated
Freddy’s not dead, Freddy’s not dead.

It’s hearing the crash on repeat,
stuck inside the fire’s smoke and heat.
Saved from becoming so much meat
dream skills defeat, dream skills defeat.

Able woman maintains power
‘til her arm’s sliced with a glower.
Anguish is raised even higher
the wrongful hour, the wrongful hour.

Should never have laid down in bed,
should have guzzled coffee instead.
I’m filled with this feeling of dread
Freddy’s not dead, Freddy’s not dead.

The Butterfly

The Butterfly

By Mystic Rose
As she drinks nectar from a flower, sweetness from heaven falls like dew
anointed with a gentle rain amidst sun showers she appears as if on cue

Lifting her wings she lands on a Zinnia beneath a tinted sky of April blue
flight of fancy fanning fast, fabulous marvel, she is beauty true on true

By Sean Kibble
A pair of glistening green eyes, glower in awe at the Morpho as she fanned
Fast as a flash, an imp with trusses of curly golden hair, swipes a tiny hand

To his wonder the elusive chrysalis hopped on to his outstretched arm
She hovered gracefully upon his palm displaying all its charm

Entranced by this serendipity, mum drew near to the spellbinding reverie
With a glint of mischief, face alight with joy he muttered “I think she likes me”.

Premium Member Augury

The earth got suddenly bereft of all life,
With a morose dullness so palpable and rife.
A tint of greyness crept over heaven’s vault.
All movements came to a freezing halt.

The wall clock didn’t toll the midday hour.
The babies no more blabbered but did glower.
The hen didn’t cackle after laying the egg.
The earth for some benevolent mercy seemed to beg.

The birds on trees at noon didn’t twitter,
And the foliage of leaves didn’t flutter.
No music came out from the well strung fiddle.
The telephone sat silent on its cradle.

Nature seemed to have lost half its mirth.
A mournful silence overpowered the earth.
Suddenly shattering the ominous silence,
Gun shots were heard from a distance.

The siren screamed many times, long and loud,
Announcing curfew on unsuspecting ears wild.
Behind the façade of a deceptive calm,
No one suspected the threat of a fierce storm.

The dumb presages of Nature, who can read?
A language mysterious, that only augurs heard.
What horrors in cosmic layers are concealed!
Through augur’s lens, future incidents are revealed.

Hey Alice! Have you,
been smoking the grub's brew?
Think you are a butterfly,
perched on a flower?
Cop the glower,
of livid fire-breathing dragonfly!

My Road
By: Miracle Man
9/26/2024

My road in life, by choice, I have traveled,
without any vision of where it might end.
Many miles were smooth, some were graveled,
with unforeseen things I had to contend.

But early on my miles began to turn sour,
and while young in years I became perplexed.
Without reason I found myself looking glower,
not understanding why I was feeling so vexed.

But then one day, still seeking an answer,
and spending many days just slumming.
At twenty-eight I was told that I had cancer,
and I couldn’t fathom what was forthcoming.

I felt like a hitcher on the highway thumbing,
I accepted Jesus’ hand and gave him control.
Faith became mile one on my road to becoming,
I embraced for my life, God’s long desired goal.

Was 28 when Born Again, 85 now.
Thank you Jesus

Premium Member Glower of the Heap and Holler

Stepped out on the deck as rain begins, Wind.
This is NOT a Summer storm with rainbow peaks.
Sans rescindment, the tip of the iceberg is here.
Leaves tickled by playful drops, flirtation of petting.

A smattering of autumn’s crop of leaflets color
the floor of the backyard moss. Betwixt seasons,
the late hurricane Helene gently rocks the boat,
for now, until she shows her victorious strength.

A low rumble as if a stomach needs to be fueled.
Not to be fooled, this fray will show its muscle.
Thank God for the warning, and early at that.
In past years, God’s mercy was needed in the trenches.

Inland Georgia, not so bad, but we need to stay indoors.
Stops along the Florida coast are more precarious.
Heavy rainfall, fast moving, tropical force winds
headed in my direction. Possible spin-ups.

It’s all a curiosity! A break from the mundane. Insane
to realize tomorrow it will be intensely gusting. Candles
might be lighting up my living room. Staying charged,
and in the know. Glower of the heap and holler comes soon.

Premium Member Toni's Smile

How long have we known you, a lifetime it seems,
upon reflection, about ten years have passed.
The first thing one notices is your face that beams,
smiles leave an impression that will always last.

Always, and without effort, you flash your smile,
and we've never seen you when your face was dour.
It's who you are and it befits your profile,
Your smiling face will never portray glower.

I oft think your days can't all be just aglow,
do you lift others spirits with hurt hidden?
From your sunny disposition one won't know,
You're always found doing what God has bidden.

Your smile is an asset which God has endowed,
a blessing that has often helped me to mend.
You give them away always making God proud,
Thank you Sister Toni for being our friend.

Reflections in my mind's eye

I see their vain eyes, their large soulless eyes,
that glower and twist and torture thy soul.
I feel their tough hands, oft wrapped round my throat,
and find myself choke, choke, choke, choke and choke.
Why can’t they leave me? Why are they still here?
Tethered in my mind’s eye, they cling to me.
And oh - how they just scream, and scream, and scream,
their endless battle-cry, my mind so worn.
Ne’er comes the silence of which my soul longs,
to abide in stillness, where nil is wrong.
