leaves weave through birthing flowers as jade ink
sunshine stitches gem gardens

Time, chameleon illusion–
glosses over each hurtful slur
corralling each warm memory
to morph the past to one grey blur.
Emotional paralysis
senses dulled from desolation.
Suddenly comes along the buoy
in the middle of an ocean.
You found me or did I find you
against the odds we two should meet
neither looking, just two souls lost
--love, the mystery bittersweet.
The rules have changed along the way
yet, neath the rubble, fires dwell.
It is a game well worth the play
Knowing romance can cast its spell.

time heals or so they say
gives the illusion of comforting
barely ~ it merely glosses over
at best of times dulls our suffering
we learn to live with pain
grin and bear the heartache
we befriend shadows in the dark
through the night that keep us awake
we manage to calm the beast
though it feeds on our broken heart
we manage somehow to coexist
so it doesn’t fully tear us apart
we understand that time can be our ally
if we learn to cope as best we can
we remember to not give up
so must get back on the caravan
we tolerate inevitable fluctuations
bravely ride the waves of emotion
we welcome nature’s cycles
connect with land and ocean
we embrace our role
within this universe sublime
as we invite peace within
and treasure the miracle of time

Polish

Your fingers end in talons—
the ones you trim to hide
the predator inside.
Ten thousand creatures sacrificed;
but really, what's the loss?
Apply a splash of gloss.
You picked the perfect color
to mirror nature's law:
red, like tooth and claw.
I thought about titling or subtitling this one “A mini-ode to manicure” but thought better of it. Please note that this poem is not about female predators or lipstick and nail polish, per se, but the way the human race “glosses over” its predatory nature. We may appear to be “civilized” with our constant grooming and high fashion, but what are we doing to the planet and its other inhabitants? I suspect many animals facing climate change/global warming and possible extinction would prefer less "civilization."

Woe betide lower men who fickle facades embrace
And wit’s hard-won gold for shifting dross exchange;
Dubbing avarice-sired glosses exquisite gems pure,
With obscuring eyes decimating solid worth's range.
With their own ears they cannot first-hand hear,
And gauge if wild grapevines solid realities say;
There's always standard hearsay in each sphere,
That defines world’s weightier subjects of the day.
It's the stark lack of depth in these artless geeks
That hatches and pupates corporate hydras’ fads:
Gimmicks-iced shenanigans to sate whims of cads;
Lie-tipped rackets hymned by classist parrot beaks.
They're the distant acquaintance who moans louder
Than the actual first-bereaved's grief-laden shoulder.
You behold the fairy eye riled by wetting garlic wafts,
That gives its tear to one unhurt by the vexing shafts.
Methinks all existence and its rigged veneers would have ceased,
If the few manipulating hucksters on its skewed stage so pleased!

The Brick Sayer
Tim is painting outside since it’s raining inside
Stroke upon cuddle one step at unfolding time
One inch brush gently on 10 squares of façade
The wannabee Buddhist thing when life is no race
Brightening enlightening mud bricks with caress
Whitewashing if that may still be said in South Africa
Tom Sawyer comes to mind as he glosses the fence
Sells the privilege for an apple core and a toad but
Political correctness has long banned the Twain
Now he moves the artist bristles for fine edges
Bordering on the insane he chooses to not employ
masking tape as that could cheat mask and disclosure
The paint ceases to flow as Tim seizes his furthering day
Watching it dry is the hard part of soft meditation so he
Desists and refrains but insists that some wall has vanished

The August breeze drifts with the scent of night hours
When carnations glitter through an inner fire
Their perfume releasing musk upon bowers
And dragonflies unveil their orange attire.
Lively the gala among vivid flowers
While robins tweet… dulcet notes climbing higher;
As portrait of summer glosses a blazed moon
To inflame ardent hearts like a lover’s tune!

Secrets hide in playgrounds
Tall shadows for concealing
Sandboxes glow all around
Gloom feeds off feelings
Bad dreams pose as fakes
Old lies parade and glare
Shame glosses most mistakes
Loneliness mixes with despair
Secrets hide in playgrounds
Empty words drop and roll
Silence screams clear and loud
Sins and gin drink up lost souls
Hearts burn on dirty grills
Hope teeters on edge of display
Promises tunnel into hills
Tomorrow slides in another day
Secrets hide in playgrounds
Waiting patiently to be found

When evening red surrounds our dream
A varnished crown glosses the breeze;
To summon love's ascent, upstream
On river's bend as moist lips tease.
A varnished crown glosses the breeze
Here, stars wiggle in blazed delight;
On river's bend as moist lips tease
When embers of dusk flames the night.
Here, stars wiggle in blazed delight,
Through middle- age, we find pleasure
When embers of dusk flame the night--
As tide cradles this love, it's lure.
Through middle- age, we find pleasure
From gentle floats of a damp kiss
As tide cradles this love, it's lure--
While years ripple in fiery bliss.

SOCIAL PEACOCK
Playing the audience
The peacock struts
How daintily and deftly
He swans around weaving intrigue
Flattering all
The kiss of a hand or an awaiting cheek
Done to perfection
Him who knows the value of each person to him
Knows how to please
The machinations of a society full of gossip
And intrigue are his tools of trade
Used to solicit maximum gain
The wise are careful
The not yet burnt
Flock to his ever awaiting arms
His guile
His flavoursome words
His hollow airs of concern
Are the skin deep glosses
That his fickle crowd adores

A face is more than a mere face,
Soft, elegant, majestic,
But sadness runs down and glosses it with magic,
A mere face is more than what is seen in this place,
A tangled, but strong mind covered in white lace,
But still it’s glorious, filled with peace not havoc,
A current in which pulses the body, electric,
Thrusting and hurting your soul, but not in this case,
Truth and integrity hides away,
In the small spots deep inside you,
Just watching time pass till you show up, not tomorrow, but today
And finally see that a face is not just a mere face, it’s everything you are too.
