She asked me to dance.
Matter-of-factly, led me
Held my eager hands -
She ruled, and I followed.
Cling to smell of cinnamon, while
She saw dark chocolate, craving to be had.
Neat and tidy as she, speaking.
Charting language of love, virginally.
Naturally, I clamored.
Loving everything of Geraldine
But granny said, "girls don't dance with girls."
She seemed twelve, and I, eleven, sat carefree.
Then Granny and Hurricane Hattie stepped in
Changed trajectory of our love.

Who fell into a pot of molten glue
We couldn’t decide what to stick her to,
We thought of this ... she would concur
So, we wrapped her in her sable fur
And, this is where we buried her.

Geraldine and Lampert, frogs
Rendez-vous'd at dawn, in swamp
Bathing in the warming current
They concur: We must tell stories!
To themselves: ("I'll make one up!")
Geraldine found first a bonmot:
"Last rehearsal, my dear Lampert
Scaled in volume, fortissimo!,
I achieved the height of croaking:
My tone high, my voice sonorous!
I completely aced the chorus
Of the Frog and Pauper, yessir!"
Lampert, all impressed throughout,
(though they sensed some shade of doubt)
Soon had found an anecdote:
"In the farthest parts of pond,
Past the sunken children's ships,
I once came upon cicadas,
And I tell you:
They're THIS big!"
Geraldine laughed ribbitly,
Chiefly, at that Lampert's bragging.
They were having grand a time,
In the morning mire, at dawn!
A mosquito soon flew by,
Caught by both, their tongues collided,
And they blushed and, mortified,
Sighed apologies, with smiles.
Past veneers of insincerity
It was both their clamped desire:
They wanted each to be
the other's froggy valentine.

Have learned about what it takes to rule their
Realm of green.
The Monarchy is so excited there will be two
Kings to take care of their domain.

Have sent for the prince's younger sister princess
Josephine
Who will now remain with her husband Germane
In the beautiful forest of Aberdeen.
Ivan will be marrying princess Geraldine.
Eugene will be marrying princess Lorraine.
The King and Queen
Will be hosting the engagement ball where the
Princesses will be receiving their rings of
Aquamarine.
This will be a huge event where elves come from
All around to play games, give their blessing, a
Present and to toast the young couples with
Champagne.

Listen: The Lyrical Lilt
that lilac
and lavender
lend to our language,
like leased luggage purposefully lost,
unrolls from lifted
tongue
to level the valley
and shallow
the depths of the gorge.

A full closet of linens,
I oftentimes find
the beach in symphony;
the hour arching shoreline a stable bow
whose melody is fizz of the ocean.
It is there, beneath a balcony of velvet celebrity,
the sand receives the water,
bends at the lunar altar,
and acknowledges a driftwood cloud.

There is a weed of sadness woven
through untilled soil
in this garden of thorns kept far from their rose,
where, still, I cannot help
but to tap my feet to the hum of this ancient rhythm,
anxious for movements left uncomposed,
my ear tightly pressed to a frail pink shell,
swelling in ghostly lullaby.
