Extender Poems

Scenes From The First Snow Storm of 2024

The mayor out to save a few bucks
dragged his feet declaring a snow emergency.

The sanitation department decided it was time
to begin a work slowdown protesting cutbacks made
to their department during the last budget crises.
Though union officials when questioned
about this insisted.
They were being used as scapegoats again!

And my snow blower wouldn’t start cause.
I stored it at the end of last season minus
a gas extender you’re advised to add to its gas tank
in the owner's manual, but come on!

So, what does Nature
and Her Winter suggest?

that death is but a sleep
before a refreshing showery
sunny new awakening

that each resting kernel of being
is a blossom again to come forth
perennials of form with lofting
scents and beguiling evolving
textures

no soil can ever fully contain
nor rising smoke of briers
be anything less than Freedom
Breaths released

seeking dawns of experience
souls en-route to still ampler bliss
having been de-shelled
freed from stifling encumbering filters

I think Winter as much the good messenger
as it is the Grim Reaper

I think Winter as much the cold and still
as it is the ceaseless heart of birthing
warmth

flakes of color never straying too far
from their green leafy patterns

we travel inherent veins sensing our
own blood pulsing there-in and out
blushing and unfolding fond ripeness

every flower brought forth
a new universe
to freshly sniff and dream

every bee and speck of pollen
an extender-finger pointing toward
an even greater God

No better way to launch the weekender
Than dropping in to see my local bartender
He whips up the meanest margarita in his blender

I can relax and to him all my troubles surrender
He knows the right thing to say to either gender
He’s everyone’s closest friend by no means a pretender

He commiserated when I needed a defender
While suspended for snapping someone’s suspender
He cheered me up when I was the thwarted contender
And understood about my questionable fender bender

He let me run a tab when I was short on tender
That’s where he drew the line to not be a lender
After all he had his own issues with a big vendor

I always cleared my tab so at no time be an offender
Never being so bold as to ask for an extender
For fear of a dry spell for services he’d render

At Any Rate, It Was Fast Moving

Driving home for a visit long overdue
along the NJ turnpike, the Delaware, straight away I flew,
down to Baltimore once more while leaning on the horn
scenery consistent and familiar with the road weather worn.

The exits looked unfamiliar, tolls now increased and gained
the road a little wider than before, the tally upward of insane
and backed up to the tolls and bridges - a bevy of traffic
causing wonder, what, where, when, why spoke vocal graphics.

Then three hours in I finally spied
the exit missed, in my surprise, I cried,
I ached from the journey, the drawn out highway slide
back tracking, at last, I again became home fried.

At any rate, there was the house at last
and out of the car I hurried fast,
greeted at the door, we hugged, we laughed
watching my parked car slide down the driveway path.

The short visit planned was now an extender
bumper and car creating a fender bender.
At any rate, there it was, fast moving,
speeding car, driver and insurance disapproving.

The First Head Transplant

The first head transplant will be in December
When a head removal will be a life extender
It will be a very complicated procedure
With 150 doctors as team members

It would seem all you need is a donor body
All tested as not so worn out and shoddy
Then take this miracle of modern medicine
And know it will be something to see in the end

So this is the next miracle of modern medicine
When you could wear out bodies at your life’s end
And maybe a designer body on order for you
To change at the right time will be ordinary too.

Flying High

Flying high against gravity powers

Soaring higher with every inch tender

In the embrace of the air as the extender

In the deepness of the earth's centers

Flying high in the dark colors highs

The push and pull all working as ties

All together tethered as the winds sway

The freedom within, the feelings to display

Síndrome Del Cerezo

Reverberación de tela
Extiende tus ideas
Hasta el desayuno
Y de vuelta
Para quien mira con cuidado
La moneda se transparenta

Un pulso familiar
Tonadas de un botón pentagonal
Continuas espirales de papel
Antes caracoles sobre el mantel
Mañana más máscaras con maíz
A fin de cuentas, la misma raíz

Odiseas en cuchara de paja
Las cortinas cambian
Siempre en la misma ventana
Antigua marea de plata
Moderno cuaderno cuadriculado
Entre sus poros asoman los gansos

Producción de órbitas en masa
Diversas escalas
Extensas hileras de universos
Réplicas de un único cerezo
Aquel que aprendió
A extender sus brazos
Y entrelazar los dedos

Los parques son continuos
Se muere con la nota de inicio
Campanada cubista
Supresión evolutiva
Siguiente parada
Extensos campos de sombrillas
