No words shall please my soul,
if not from deep within.
In life we laugh and weep,
as moods with time do spin.
Even a poet does need a flare,
to devise his ringy rhymes.
To sculpt a verse from solid words,
is a masters work, sublime.
When fine words mingle and mix,
with sweet lovely emotions,
a lady’s heart will surely yield,
without showing a notion.
Delightful words do cast a spell,
on people where they stand.
Being a charmer may pay your rent,
to the lady of the land.
No torrent is strong or tough,
to sweep a poets will.
And no drought is harsh enough,
to dry a poets well.
Eloquent words,
soft and smooth,
too far from being absurd.
When spoken loud,
they steal the show,
on every stage and stand.

So confident that he'd pass the test
Claimed his oral essay was the best
He yammered and muttered
And stammered and stuttered
But half way through he puked on his desk

Enchanted by the mirage of florid ecstasy,
the flower in my desiccated heart blossomed
when your charisma drizzled on me
like the soothing rare summer rain of oasis.
The flame of my heart was stoked
by the breeze of the yearning spring.
Flaring beauty of glowing fresco flashed
on the beguiled blushing face of desire.
The wilted petals were dislodged
by the destructive dust storm of desertion.
The split flower saw the dreams in debris,
its shriek was lost in the quietude of desert.
As you drifted away from my stormy horizon,
thunder of torment ripped my forsaken flower.
The broken heart suffering mute pain I protected
for you to hear silence speak in emotive eloquence.

Death means, leaving your loved ones,
but floating like clouds in their sky, falling like rain,
flowing like a silent river through the forest in their heart.
Death means, leaving this earth but lying on its ground.
Death means, leaving our one life and maybe finding another.
Death means, after all those sweet reminiscences, one day oneself
living among the memories.
Death means, after a lifetime of eloquence, now silence.
And the death of a poet means, he left his poems and went away,
but remains eternally in his poems in such a way,
like Rabindranath walking, with his hands clasped behind.

Old Spice’ and wet grass carry years
of understanding between us.
If I break wind, you run to me,
body rapt and heeding,
every hair translating
a smudged paragraph into
volumes of memory.
Rubbernecking my attention
with a fixed gaze,
you are staring at my next question,
willing to
jaw with more whiffs of intimacy.
A jargon of us both
surfacing in her millpond eyes.
Silent odiferous idioms crest
upon her black nose,
a cloddish lingo,
but it outruns anything that could be said.

Many of the greats in poetry are said to be eloquent beings,
Well-versed in language as well as the human mind, soul, and heart.
Their legacy of distinct impressions;
Such aureate diction surely leaves the world a more vibrant, colorful place,
But at times I wonder: Do THEY leave this world more vibrant?

A rainbow once said
To fall falling in cascade,
What use loudmouth made
When silence can say a lot,
Wordless, when the words cannot.

Poet’s note: A deep thicket of green forest surrounds a valley wherein falls a cascade piercing the tranquillity that reigns otherwise. In waters gathered in the valley before flowing away as a river, a reflection of a rainbow peeps out as if to say something to the noisy waterfall. And this Tanka gets born.

Expressions penned from soulful contemplation,
Rather rhymed, in form, or in free verse style,
May not decide my choice between the two.
It is the sense of awe that is the draw...
Awe that leaves one feeling so inspired,
Tears well up in eyes and deep sighs follow.
Poetry may rival the rising sun
With wondrous colored shades from dark to light.
Aquatic tunes in concert with moon's moods
Enchant us with the music they impart.
As love extolled in lover's lexicon
Rather rhymed with iambic expertise,
Or with angelic wings of free verse flight,
I love them both, I could not choose just one.

Eloquence and Grace were sisters on the run
In a place that valued hate
They found that they had none
They sought a world of kindness
Where love and friendship grew
They hoped that such a place exists in 1692
They heard of a new world, a welcome mat for all
From every meager walk of life
Where freedom will stand tall
They journeyed far to seek a life
In all love would allow
I wonder how they’d feel today, if they could see us now

Lungs that exhale lofty tones,
higher learning ... Mt. Olympus invocation
Elevated flung lightning bolts of linguistic illusion,
fancy worded dreams
floating ...
between
open cranial empty spaces
Diaphragm skywalkers
verbally illuminating prosthetic landscapes
of skin-deep lip topography
Giving interval beeps
of sonar, irregular equality
Maimed assumptions broken
and bent at the knees
Another Po’ Boy sandwich
pressed between two white bread homilies
Lifted up from the boot straps of society,
raising scrap expectations
not patron saint funded adequately
Pardon this underbelly pale naïveté —
Delusions of pauper eloquence
is negative sum ghetto certified positively
Battered rent conditions
feeling the po’ economic handicap pocket tease
Another Black Forest ham sandwich
pressed between
an upper and lower enamel sound byte squeeze
Green pasture illusion of freedom
does make for an idyllic graze docile situation
Delusions of fluent eloquence
be the rose cheeky flow of a grandiose nation

From the crispness of morning to dusk
when all boughs sashay to unfurl,
deepening the fragrance of airbrushed woods…
she will bask in her own pleasure
on a carriage of larkspurs , jays in the shade---
while the breeze fondles her hair
ripening the glow of early May, ablaze.
Oh how she pulses more daring
than winter , not icy-white but pink, pink
like a virginal woman whose fertile seeds
enter my womb: that I drink from her
minty sup, luscious as Taurus’ nectar.
Until spring raises her hands...fluid, raw,
loving; then, to explode into blossomed flight
through the language of time’s renaissance--
a charmed way, basking in her own pleasure,
then to grant me the eloquence of god’s art.
