When the mind stops, blank without thought,
It goes to a place of sanity sought.
For sanity is to chaos’ distain,
That place where silence and calm are gain.
It’s from this place of quiet and calm,
That peace can bring a healing balm.
As soothing as a soft cool breeze,
This time of peace will surely please.
It’s here when lavished in such pleasure,
One gets a grasp of life’s measure.
This may not be the only way,
But it is available most any day.
Here a new direction the mind will seek,
A way to live well and be unique.

Angry Conifers
Trees in the avenue
have a weird sense
of humor
Long roots cracking up
finely laid cobble stone
pavement
Slightly bent easterly
give pain in the lower
trunk
The younger trees
bleat about older trees
taking space
Older trees show
distain of needy trees
no dignity
Trees are silent
lack imparting skills
shake leaves

He walks alone through the hush of morning,
dew balancing like prayers on blades of grass.
above him, a red kite wheels as geometry drawn
and for a moment,he forgets what we’ve done.
the earth is still kind,still spills blossom from trees
we’ve maimed all that is good with our distain
let rivers write sermons through concrete and spillage.
yet even now,she forgives us, the mother can be kind.
As he stands beneath a birch that grows despite the plastic
coiled at its roots his hand touches the bark there’s warmth.
Its life refusing to retreat from it greatest enemy homoerectus
the weight and menace of opposable thumbs.

I know I'm the problem
My fractured thoughts remind me constantly
My love
I've got the bullet
But I never wanted the gun
I think I fall in love everyday
Strangers on the street I'll meet someday
I think I love them all
But I never intend to fall
I know I'm not the problem
His actions show me consistently
I'm stuck in distain
He handed me the gun
After unloading the bullets at my feet

Intifada aka “Kill the Jews!”
While we were sleeping content in our lives
Something dark and ugly was growing inside
Spreading across the lawns, and fibers of the net
An intifada of hate as old as time,
For those People of the Book who hold the power
Maybe we fear, maybe we envy.
“Kill the Jews” was once tolerated,
Then condemned in shame,
And now pridefully in distain proclaimed.
“Kill the Jews” may sound hip and cool
Until you realize where this led last time,
And how a Jew is no different from you.
Everyone now who’s saying it,
Gleeful as you rise up to burn again,
What it’s taken so long to build,
Consume with a hate as old as time.
But how will you feel in the morning
When the next wave comes for you…

When the carrion calls
this is your destruction
you are drunk with distain
Your body is a yew tree
into which a maiden
dips her momentary fingers
You are now a snake
which slithers
towards the black cave
together your
dreams are stillborn
the still night interlopes
with your deft piety
disheartened

Under the rug it goes
So nobody else will know
Under the rug it goes
Safe, beneath trodding toes
Under the rug is safe
For an unspoken mistake
Under the rug there’s pain
And spitted, rotten, distain
Under the rug where secrets travel
The fibers insure, nothing unravels

You senselessly hurt me,
Then, demand I do not cry.
You frustrate me,
Then, unsympathetically, punish my display of anger.
You ridicule me,
Then, taunt me when I strive to win your approval.
You swear long-standing tribal love and protection,
Then, crush my small, unprotected heart with indifference.
You set impossible goals,
Then, painstakingly dismantle my ego.
You demonstrate blatant distain,
Then, draw me inside your dark, secret circle.
You demand the obscene use of my disempowered sheath,
Then, discard the confused Soul indwelling.
Who taught you how to love on the Dark Side?
Were you not once also a child,
Alone, and frightened in the whispering darkness?
Did you not once also smile, laugh and sing?
Who taught you to hide your innocence,
In the filmy guise of unrequited bravery?
A young female child cries hauntingly,
In the background of my dreams.
If children learn what they live,
Who taught you to love on the Dark Side?

I am bound and chained to a very tight leash
Now the stillness hangs lifeless in the air
Icy tentacles grope, grab and squeeze
My breath is taken away, I do decree..
Darkness has snuffed out the warming light
the trembling fear has started to begin
the hand of death has taken away all of life
goose bumps run up and down my skin
bearing its sharp teeth, ready to bite
it has my insides like a twisted knot
I feel ready to run, take off in flight
so I am fused in this one very spot
This gloominess goes by many a name
Its strength its mighty then might
wrapped in a shroud of icy pain
but I am not ready to stand up to fight
from the grey clouds of much distain
blows the cold wind and the pouring rain

Rosey, had a rose of course
And Dan had Dandelions.
Sonny sought out Sunflowers
And Pete perfumed Petunias.
Maisey dreams of Daisys,
Cyrus clings to Iris.
Pops loves Poppys everywhere and
Viola vies for Violets.
Amy loves the Amaryllis
While Dolly dallies Dahlias.
Don’t miss Miss Chrysanthemum or
Aly’s awsome Alyssum.
James with Jasmine ran and
Percy picks the Jersey Lily.
Casey cares for Camelia and
Phyllis leaps through Lilies.
Angie’s all “Angelica” while
Bob boasts of Blossums.
Fiona’s Flora flies and
Abe craves more Azalea.
Beatrice bathes in Begonias and
Cassie crafts with Calia.
Goodness, 300 flowers or more!?
Oh distain, I’m out of names!
No more room for blooms
I’ll stop meddling, and “petal” on.

His evil malicious taunting's
Lucifer shifts minions and demons;
Spiting on the womb of the bride;
Embracing her soul windows closed;
The bride groom cometh
Tried and tied in the knots of life;
Desperately seeking wife's;
Separate the rooms, implant shame doom;
Body count concludes;
The head is separated from the main;
The bride groom cometh
The fam is distain;
Calculated divisions;
The bride groom cometh
Dirty broken windows cleanse with maple-syrup;
While little girls still play patty-cake and jump rope;
I can't wait for the Husband of the Church to come;
I can't wait for the parting of the skies;
The bride groom cometh
Catfishing dirty dishes mouths spitting;
Mixed decisions--
I can't wait to see with mine spiritual eyes;
The bride groom comes, The bride groom cometh

Once fresh bouquet starts to wither
Their hearts bear all the strain
Of love's cruel distain
Their sour love tale I deliver

Four voices I hear, it’s a new season
Four voices appear in mine heart’s ear
So hear
I see so the light
In Him every, everything is alright
Four voices
One choice
Four seasons
One reason
I need it to snow, to freeze any doubts and woes
I need it to rain, rain down graces, mercies, praise
All I am and am I all
I need it to be autumn fall
So that I can be redeemed colorful
Spring unto me new season relief
Passions flowers distain, instilled remain
Four voices I hear, it’s a new season
Four voices appear in mine heart’s ear
So hear
I see so the light
In Him every, everything is alright
Four voices
One choice
Four seasons
One reason
Been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb
His name is…
Jesus

A curse of the mind, body, and soul.
As the blood returns, I will take the toll.
The discomfort and shame,
Pads and distain.
I will beg, to be like the real boys.
Flat chested and tall bodied,
broad shoulders and a deep voice.
A dream I chase, a losing race.
A constant reminder,
A reminder of what I will never be.
As I stand hunched, my cursed being.
I can pull on a hoodie, suppress my chest.
But the blood never ceases; the pain will never rest.
The blood will flow, my stomach will twist.
All I can do is beg, beg for it to one day go amiss.
But that day will never come,
The shame will rise.
A curse of my life, a curse till I die.
