Cup Final Poems | Examples

Jack 40

My eternal thanks I wish to express
With gratitude to John from the local press

Writing us off completely, with the words to the public he did say
Advising us to avoid embarrassment and not turn up to play

In a cup final against opposition with superior skills and refined touch
However, names and reputations don't guarantee winning matches as such

In my time in the game, I've learned a few things through the years
If you don't start correctly it's hard to move up through the gears

The words my players took to the pitch were loud and clear
Confidence without arrogance and respect without fear

Thanks again to the man for the words he did write
He was mentioned in the team talk, we were up for the fight

When the match was over and all was said and done
We turned up, he was wrong and we had won

Congratulations to Spain, the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 Champions (in their first-ever Women's World Cup Final), after defeating England 1-0 today! Congratulations also to The Lionesses. In addition to winning the European Championship last year, this is the first time England reached the Women's World Cup championship, and it is also the first time an England team has reached a World Cup final since the men's team won in 1966. So Spain and England can stand proud as game changers, in harmony with this year's World Cup theme: "Beyond Greatness!"

Pele Rip

PELE – R.I.P.

When I was a young boy
Soccer was my game.
I dreamed I would play like Pele;
The whole world would know my name.

I would just be known by a single name
And I’d always wear number ten.
I’d win the World Cup Final,
Again and again and again

The crowds would all adore me,
I’d bask in adulation.
The name on everybody’s lips;
The darling of the nation.

But of course it was only a pipe dream.
I could never really compete.
For I was born right-footed
And I’m blessed with two left feet

Cup Final Christmas Day 1914

I read about a game of football, wondered whether it was real,
Did they really pause the fighting, For some festive time to steal?
Enemies the toffs invented, all were simply duty bound,
Will to win much evidence for, football empathy was found.
Sent out there to kill each other, drop a bomb and try to maim,
But they’re 19 year old children, on both sides they’re just the same.
Girls at home and mates they’re missing, Some of them would not go home,
But that Christmas day in 14, On the makeshift pitch they’d roam.
Next day though t’was all forgotten, back to trenches, like before,
Should it all have ended that day? years left still though numbered four.
Just a few hours of enlightment, and what would it all be for?
Dead and wounded, both sides suffered, football won, but never war!

My Enthusiasm

I want to run a marathon,
A mountain want to climb,
I want to be a pilot,
Write a book in record time.
I want to act on Broadway,
And at golf beat Tiger Woods,
Complete a sail around the world,
Design some special puds.
I want to be on radio,
Present a morning show,
I want to sit in Parliament,
In space I want to go.
I want to drive a tube train,
A cup final goal to score,
I want to be a stand up,
And I want to win a war.
I want to found a charity,
I want to write a book,
I want to play ice hockey,
And with glee I’d hit the puck.
I want to re-design a house,
I want a number one,
Enthusiasm still as strong,
Until the chance is gone.
I am enthusiastic,
And succeed perhaps I might,
But what I’m most enthusiastic,
For, is just to write!

The 2014 Stanley Cup Final

THE 2014 STANLEY CUP FINAL

The grand stage. The big dance on the ice.
Two teams have overcome against their competitors
To try and conquer the ultimate prize...
The prestigious and coveted Stanley Cup

The New York Rangers have led the way over their rivals
And the Los Angeles Kings have overthrown their enemies

The Rangers will try to go all the way
To claim the long-awaited cup, two decades since 1994
However, the Kings will try to battle
To reclaim their lost crown jewel, once theirs back in 2012

Who will rise to the occasion?
Who will be the one to raise the cup?

The 2014 Stanley Cup Final.
THE FINAL BATTLE HAS JUST BEGUN!
