Premium Member Just set me free

All I have to do
to keep loving you
is to play that game
like you always do.

You hide your love
cause you were hurt before,
so you measure our love
like a game to score.

You stood by my side
till you took me for a ride
I couldn't have imagined it so,
You told me that you loved me,
but had other plans
to walk out and let me go.

BRIDGE:
I see how you avoid my kiss
hiding the love you know I miss.
If thats the way you wanna be,
Just set me free.

All I have to do is look into your eyes,
See the love you try to hide.
You measure love like a game to score
Just so you won't hurt no more.

Repeat bridge to end.

Interlude:
(Repeat bridge)

Premium Member Ode to John Denver

Mere words cannot express
The depths of my respect
And how I mourn the fact that he's not here.
His open, honest smile,
His friendly country style,
Of course his voice and music keep him near.

As kids, on Thursday nights,
My dad turned down the lights
And by a roaring fire we'd sing his songs.
I've such dear memories...
We'd sing to his LP's
Until, at last, our bedtimes came along.

Oh, how those songs inspired
And lifted my heart higher
Each time my mundane life would drag me down.
And truly I believe
It cannot be just me
Who wishes that he could still be around.

So, here's to Brother John!
He's never really gone
As long as somewhere someone shares his songs!
He was one of the best
So may his soul be blessed!
His many fans will keep his mem'ry strong.

Sunday Drive

Sunday drive

Sunday morning out for a drive
Windows down feeling alive
Open road open air
Following the road going nowhere
Country roads are a continuous thing
Fences and pastures a colorful scene
The thoughts of childhood flood my mind
A carefree life, a carefree time
Country roads country miles
Old farmhouses country style
No traffic, no worries, no stress on this trip
Any sign of stress I plan to skip
Beautiful houses and age-old barns
Country roads with country charm
Driving alone windows down
Positive feelings, I've escaped from the town
Passing by places, I"ll always remember
Leaves are turning; it's mid-September
As a boy, I'd bike for miles and miles
Thinking of that time, I begin to smile
I'm on the road again, but now I'm much older
Stop for a while, pulling onto the shoulder
Out of my car, I begin to walk around
Those childhood dreams are what I've found.

Coming Back Home

Craving to be back where I belong
Only place my heart breaks into song
Memories come flooding through my mind
Imitating days I left behind.
Nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Guess that's why you're always home to me.

Been to many places far and wide
And I've missed your presence by my side.
Catching planes and working till I'm through
Killing time till I get back to you.

Hope it won't be long before we meet
Only you can make my life complete.
Missing you each day that we're apart
Even though you're ever in my heart.

(I had a country-style tune in my head writing this with a pause of 3 extra beats at the end of each line)

It Was On a Kansas Farm

It was on a Kansas farm
I saw the beauty and the charm
as I sat gazing out across the hills
Not a car or man in sight
just a blue and cloudless sky
and the smell of barley wafting from the mills

A rabbit scurried fast
and a meadowlark flew past
and I could hear the quiet ripple of a stream
As the sun set miles away
I had hoped to keep this day
as I likened this adventure to a dream

As I lie upon the grass
with no rush to hurry back
to the city with its bustle in the street
I closed my eyes awhile
and in classic country style
I held a blade of wheat between my teeth

The ‘nothingness’ was there
yet it displayed a certain air
and the splendor of the tall grass was pristine
It was on a Kansas farm
that I found this scene of charm
and my heart rejoiced in all that was serene.

One More Time

One more time
One more time
What’s about you?
And, I feel your Love.

One more time
One more time
What’s about you?
And, I see your Joy.

One more time
One more time
What’s about me?
And, you feel my Love.

One more time
One more time
What’s about me?
And, you see my Joy.

Love from you, Honey
And, I feel your Heart

Love from me, Baby
And, you see my Joy

Love comes around you
And, this is the Perfect Love!

Premium Member There Was a Country Song Playing On the Stereo

There was a country song playing on the stereo
The night she walked out of my door
I don’t ever want to hear a guitar strum
The G-C-D chords any more

There was a fiddle in the background
And a banjo picking along
I remember every mistake that I ever made
Every time I hear a country song

Now you may want to do a two-step
Or a square dance country-style
But every time I hear a Jew’s harp twang
I lose hold of my happy smile

There was a country song playing on the stereo
The night she took off my ring
So if you want to see this grown man cry
Just let me hear Johnny Cash and June Carter sing

' Cowboy Portrait ... ' (Cowboy Poem # 8)

I Drew A Portrait of A Cowboy
With Bronco Jumping to the Sun
The Sunlight, was Both His Halo
And Sunrays, His Blazing Gun …

As He Rode High, Against Blue Sky
And Came Down, to Earth-Dirt-Brown
He Hung Onto That Saddle Horn
And Sat It Like A Crown

A Cowboy Hat, Was Silhouette
With Its Studded, Silver-Band
Also, On His Chaps, and Spurs
And Spanish Leather, Gloved Hands

His Jaw, Was Set, in Steel
A Strong, Granite Profile
Of Determination, Skill and Handsomeness
And Hard, Big-Country Style

… and I Love That Portrait of A Cowboy
Getting Bronchoed Up In The Sun
Seeing Sun and Sky, and A Wild Stallion Try
To Buck That Son – Of – A – Gun !
