Can a man be be both blessed and cursed,
by long memories of combs and curls..
and is there any true penance to be done
believing anything could be worse?
The girl of aubern riding fast past my porch
always laughing into the dusk-
still, smile
in spite of myself,
remembering it just as it was.
Popcorn smell wafting down the cinema hall,
and what's more, thank the lord!
invited to sit with two college sorority girls
replete with rice and loaded squirt guns
at the late night Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Holding hands with the girl nextdoor,
Miss Dear to Heart and friend.
Return to that wonderous world of before-
ah, to be sixteen at Six Flags
again!
Just wish I could remember the names,
that belong to all those laughing faces...
in fine pigtails and shining braces,
held now, and forever
in a heart's Hall of Fame.
Once upon a time ago,
An act of marriage was made so.
Film and sound both intertwined
And made a movie when combined.
At first, colour was not in sight...
Merely greys of black-and-white.
Ceremonies made in silence
Without gratuitous sex or violence.
As time went on, movies evolved
With many contributors involved.
The inclusion of colour and soundtracks
Enhanced what some pictures would lack.
Cameras of stock and sprockets
Would eventually fit into pockets.
Anyone can perform marriage
These days with the correct carriage.
These words are a mere summation
Of imagination and inspiration
That cinema has given me...
Thank you for all I hear and see.
Snippets play inside my mind.
Pieces of movies which I find
Are ingrained; cinema projected...
Dorment and then resurrected.
Sometimes, just a simple thought
Or action has the snippet caught.
Often, in a single day
They play - and sometimes on replay.
Moments big and moments small...
A century of films in all.
Silver, colour, sex and violence...
Even scenes made in their silence.
When I'm bored, I like to visit
These - I find them quite exquisite.
Shots and scenes in all their glory
From any given category.
The theatre based inside my head
Captures what's said and unsaid.
I cherish snippets because they
Can help to fill some of my day.
Friendships, wordy scripts, cameras, microphones and venue blips. Call security, no need to be shirty, let's go again.. scene five, take thirty. Action. Cut. Time for tea. The bar is closed but coffee's free. The waiting patiently never ends. We chat we laugh. We're making friends. The brushes flash across my brow.. my shirt is steamed no creases now. As runners jog and sound men lean. I've learned my lines, we're quite a team.. with birthday Sue and sooty Dave.. the risks we take favour the brave. It's all been worth the sweat and tears, a hundred props of seventeen years. With actors, crew and faithful few. The final shots to rave review. A shout hooray and rapturous clap.
For Acting on Impulse.. it's a wrap x
We sought a shelter, you adopted us
So far, yet near, in the deep down, thus.
Through every gaze, captive of darkness,
You lead us by the waves of crisis.
You shine like the sun, dazzling day for night
In my somber scene, you are the key light.
I sink into seat, there: silver screen,
Spoiler alert: an unseen dream.
You are my muse, the peace of my soul,
Healer of the wounds: your supporting role.
Your unique magic, takes us far away,
To our desires, fantasies ballet.
I would keep watching, with passion untamed,
I am enchanted, and for good flamed.
In movie haven, the mind takes flight,
It’s my love affair, my timeless delight.
A movie about horror
Characters playing with mirror
Reflecting images of furor
Dissecting with knives of terror
Villains of phantasm
Heels of sarcasm
Viewers of spasm
Breaking apart like chasm
Stories of apparition
Product of man's illusion
Overshadowing people's intuition
Instinct over perception
Curtains of cinema, wide open and free
Watchers of stigma, cold hands on knee
Lesson of the story, mind over body
Shadows of mystery, glimpse of artistry
With a rose between teeth
red mouth calling me
your look reminds me of cinema noir
The Human Eye, too, needs feeding,
The Screen, too, not Textbooks reading;
Things that translate into Thriller
Or-does it matter? – Time Filler
I myself would itch for Horror
And, if I can’t reach one, Terror:
Some eyes do die for The Mafia,
Some for Savages in Raffia.
What we see is Guessed Dilemma
Often waiting in Cinema
But aiming to mirror True Life
And Man serve as his guide in strife…
Later, The Pictures stop to move:
Just legs with vigor to prove;
Sound feet that should have to hurry
To catch some impatient lorry…
But some Ten Feet might not scramble,
Their owners seeming The Humble
Ready to hasty strides forget
And simply slide through Gentle Gate

Cinema
Haiku By: Tom
December 5th 2020
Life is a movie,
after it’s climax, the end.
Seldom black and white!
They were 'futuristic scenes'
'Coming soon' to cinema screens
Forlorn, abandoned downtowns
deserted streets, rot and decay
Forget the cinemas ~ future's here today
In cinema
Hollywood
Bollywood
Also something like Kollywood
Now the trend new is Covood
When the actors in cinema acting staying in distance!
The line of people out the door.
The queue that snaked around the floor.
The building's sleek art deco style.
The carpets' faded plush red pile.
The "Coming Soon" in convex frames.
The "Showing Now" and big star names.
The James Bond pose in poster shots.
The tickets from the kiosk slots.
The heavy doors that often creaked.
The seats on springs that always squeaked.
The fan shaped lights along the side.
The screen that stretched up high and wide.
The smoke that swirled inside the beam.
The shapes and sounds of Pearl And Dean.
The adverts that had overrun.
The trailers for the films to come.
The feature that would come on first.
The sudden pangs of extreme thirst.
The usherette's cool ice cream stint.
The fancy names like Midnight Mint.
The expectations in the place.
The action of the opening chase.
The talking scenes that went nowhere.
The plastic cup beneath my chair.
The glance at watches in poor light.
The stunts and guns and final fight.
The seats that sprung as credits rolled.
The exit doors and night time cold.
