Premium MemberThe day before I fell in love with you

I don't remember what I did, it's true,
the day before I fell in love with you.
I guess I might've been attending Shakespeare class
lamenting with Professor Pendergrass
the fate of Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montague.

Premium MemberA Light Through Yonder Window

When last the Angels come to take me home
I'll pause in sheltered memories I leave
and peacefully my mind will surely roam
within the quiet calm that they conceive.
Your lair and guarded threshold beckoned me,
though hidden well behind tradition's door
and wrapped within your Mother's wistful pleas,
still, couldn't hide the heart I so adored.
Much like the fabled Montague of old,
I dared the very doorstep where you slept
- in kindred sharing laughed with truths you told
and gently swept the happy tears you wept.
The twilight glows upon what love begets;
forever you remain my Capulet ...

I Wish I Could Love You

Forbidden love makes everyone think Romeo and Juliet
People think we love eachother and we don't know it yet
But sometimes there isn't always an obvious Capulet
Sometimes we don't want to have to live in our own regret

I want to make a stand for something I want... or maybe a fall
To fall in love and live my life, but if I do that, I risk it all
To say it in person or to send a text or even give her a call
Whatever, I'll just stay a friend or less and I'll build a wall

I give up, I'll never be the winner, no matter what I do
I screwed up in school, swim, social life, no breakthrough
I need to get rid of these feelings so I don't make it all askew
I'll keep it to myself and tell a friend or two that I love you

Premium MemberShakespeare's Name Blame Game

A Capulet named Juliette
Exclaimed to her ardent beau,
"You're not to blame Montagu's your name.
By its nature a rose's aroma is sweet,
Though in nomenclature it be not so neat,
But wherefore art thou Romeo?
Why can't you be John, or Frank, or Ben,
Gregory, Justin, Bill, or Farley?
I'd even go for Joe, or Charlie,
Or Abelard, or even Sven."

"Hey, I didn't choose it, so please don't abuse it,"
The young swain gently pleaded.
"We must conclude our families' feud
If our love's to proceed unimpeded."
But those star-crossed lovers
Were destiny's fools,
They drank poison and ended up dead.
In that feud Shakespeare roped them,
When he could have eloped them,
And written those kids a happy ending instead.

Premium MemberIf Romeo and Juliet Had Survived

I was warned about you lazy Montagues
Some Romeo you turned out to be!
You’re so flabby you can’t see your own shoes
Where for art thou? Watching sports on TV!

Enough, Juliet, you’ve turned into your mother
With your nagging, complaining, and ceaseless spending
All you Capulet women just hover and smother
How I yearn for Shakespeare’s grand ending!

Middle-aged crisis is one topic which William Shakespeare stayed away from.

What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By Any Other Name would smell as sweet

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

ROSE CAPULET

Put aside the rose by any other name, the dozen scent
of lover’s potent petals, exacting thorns that pierce the skin.
His soulmate’s countenance - like baby’s breath and intent.
Her pink pinched cheeks, soft as velvet, a bright budding win.

The lovely romance of Capulet adorned with thrilling furl.
Sweetness permeates from Shakespeare’s intervening,
phrase caught betwixt the feuding, an idyllic poetic pearl.
Cruel cessation of fluttering heartbeats - unforeseen things.

Juliet’s petals still - like Aurora’s lips longed to be kissed.*
Her Romeo clueless to her pretense downs caustic curse.
His rapturous love awakens — wan rose can only coexist
in the arms of death. Dagger turns rose red in abiding verse.

Robert Liguori’s Rose Contest

*Aurora was the name of the fairytale’s Sleeping Beauty who was awakened by her prince with a kiss. Juliet was in a temporary coma
but Romeo never received her explanation letter.

Love In Heaven

There you're my Romeo, finally here
So, away I let my last pearl of tear
In the coffin we held our hands staying near
For my love, death is not to be fear
Eh my love, isn't this place dear?

A Capulet and a Montague, it was our fate
With swords our families shared their hate
But you and me dreamed of a love date
The poison was a heal, what I ate
Finally, God brought us here, we aren't late

A lover you were, between the fight
So your heart love with filled was light
You glanced at the balcony to see me at night
"Juliet is the sun" said your sight
We both are now here, with an angel flight

I danced with you, wearing a ball gown
Into your love, you see, I drown
Towards our love, I saw my father frown
We left the feudal who wore the crown
Cannot they still understand love, see the earth down

In front of Christ, as husband and wife we flourished
Oft, they thought our love isn't distinguished
So, from Verona were you banished
Time passed, but our love never vanished
Here, in heaven, Romeo and Juliet isn't finished

I lost my shoe at the bottom of a pit
and when I roll and no one was around
In my composure felt an itch
I scratched it up and down

Oh it last as I reminisce
Tossed and turned
Struggling to control the last man
I confess
Calibrate secondly

I found my glove and it was full of mud
Up above the wrist two Arms that embrace love
In my defense
I'm sitting on the bench

Oh la la as I reminisce
Hi chance loving kiss
Am I Romeo are you Juliet
Come together from together in Capulet

Brexit Sonnet 9 - Star Flagged Lovers

Brexit Sonnet No.9
‘Star Flagged Lovers’

Here we stand, families joined by fate,
To stop a parting that’s not such sweet sorrow.
Our newest stars, crossed by Brexit’s gate,
Bring us together in common cause, not quarrel.
So play not with traditions and family rights,
Play not the part of jester, fool or knave,
Be not stupid, crass or fighting fights,
For stupidity proffers but that tragic grave.
No plague on all our houses must we see.
Do not by death bury thy parents’ strife,
But by life, rise up together, strong and free;
No biting thumbs or loss of lover’s life.
Support our star flagged lovers whatever your clan,
Be it Montague, Capulet or any other realm of man.

SOLILOQUY AND SILHOUETTE

Soliloquy and silhouette, a lively dance,
A sideways glance, such dalliance of form.

In Verona, this jester must be serious. Stance -
Shoulders back, feet set, just right. The storm -

Soliloquy and silhouette, in perfect pirouette.
A swordfight ensues, a riveting Capulet and Montague feud,

As Romeo’s ear, inclines, to the unabashed harkening of Juliette.
At the balcony’s base, he’s starstruck. She’s her lover’s only food.

Her fair skin camouflaged in dark shadow.
The beauty of the heart pounds out words.

Time tolls for bitter foes, who will reap a sorrowful low.
A family feud - a causal sacrifice of dove-like birds.

Silhouette of two, carried through the darkest night.
Mourners gather in the emptiness of absinthian gloam.

A rebirth - two families freed from their shackled sight.
Too late for angels, so far from their home sweet home.

Romeo's Gaze

(Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet)

The rain fell steady, as I entered the ball,
My heart in my throat, listening to Capulet drawl,
Inside they wore masks: peacocks, tigers, green and blue,
And it was then, as I gazed up, that my eyes fell on you,
A fiery star you were, with beauty divine,
Gazing far away, with a radiant face so fine!
But it was not this that captured my heart,
It was your eyes, that from the others, kept you apart,
They flickered and danced with such glorious flames,
They sang of magical lands, with strange magical names,
They held velvety darkness, and blinding light too,
They told of whispering rain, and clear skies anew,
I was suddenly falling in voids of galaxies and stars,
I was drifting from reality, to somewhere very far,
Oh I was lost in your eyes and drowning so fast,
I had forgotten my future, my present, my past,
Your dreams filled mine, gave new breath to me,
I’d escaped this time, now floating in a timeless sea,
Who were you, the one to colour my world?
The most beautiful beauty, strange celestial girl?

A Date With Fate

Juliet, please come to the window
And tell me that there is no other
Romeo stop acting so crazy
You'll wake up my father and mother.

Crazy? I'm crazy about you
And I'm hoping you feel the same
Come down, we'll walk in the garden
And forget about our last names

Romeo it's not that easy
To turn your back on tradition
I love you with all of my heart
Don't put me in this position.

My Juliet what's in a name
when you and I are together.
We're both young lets give it a try
I've looked, there is no one better.

Juliet you're a Capulet
And I a simple Montague.
Our stars are not in alignment
But that's always going to be true.

Juliet, love is the answer
We really should not hesitate
Let's join our families together
And just leave the rest up to fate.

Paris Re-Writes Shakespeare

Your father’s words agree I’ve passed his test
Yes, I confess, I’m viewed as idiot
for bowing, but our future I’ve addressed -
Now, I have met and won my Capulet.

Ah, Juliet; my dear sweet Juliet.
Agreement’s done; and now I’ve come to claim
my prize. My love, you gain my princely name.

Countless the times I’ve come here nerves on edge.
Two tiring years, have passed. Your statuette
now speaking from the porch your solemn pledge
reminds the world – we kept the rule he set.

Ah Juliet; my dear sweet Juliet
Verona hears announcement of our vows -
I, Paris, take you dearest as my spouse.

Who’s this approaching porch on bended knee?
arriving late with horse and chariot.
It’s Romeo of Montague we see
but what he finds is just a silhouette

of Juliet; his long gone Juliet.
His kiss of death, imagination’s joke
I, Paris passed and gained the marriage yoke.

Premium MemberBe Mine, O Fairest Juliet

Wherefore gazest thee from yon balcony,
O fairest Juliet? Searchest thou for one
that loveth thee 'neath heaven's brazen sun,
that son of Montague—'tis felony!?

Thou lovest him? Ah! but loveth he thee?
'Ere long thy love for him wilt be undone
by poison and—alas!—thou wilt be gone
and we shalt grieve—both Houses!—yea, all we

and Montague! I beg of thee—instead
be mine? For I'm thy kinsman, Capulet!
Be mine! And like that Romeo fore-said,
I'll worship thee as divine; and forget
that thy wayward heart near left me for dead
whilst thou eloped with him, mine Juliet.
