Burst Out Poems

Sea Change

A tusked wolf dips its paw into the brine
the sea is its restless mother.
A proto creature, its bones already growing
razorback fins and horns, it must seek a shell
to hide beneath. The fanged manatee dies for love.
Before the porpoise leapt, before the whale shipped
its gray prow,
Jekyll and Hyde clawed each other
through a gibbosity of flesh. Where the skin flew,
rat tails grew gills and jagged jaws, while
blind behemoths burst out from small pods.
a saline transitioning that even now
wave-washes my naked feet, as the sea
plows me deep -
and does this cold moonlight reveal
the hidden talons of my ever-flowing father?

Premium MemberWhy are Butterflies so Beautiful?

From the drab green-brown worm of caterpillars and pupae,
Emerges the phosphorescent butterfly so pleasing to the eye!

But, why oh why, are butterflies so superbly colorful,
That we admire the fleeting flutters and flashes as wonderful?

Is it to say: "Be warned I'm toxic don't you dare eat me!"
Is it to attract a mate or mimic leaves, or flowers, Tweedledum dee?

For the worm which once crawled on leaves with heavy down-trod tread,
Knew what splendor with patience lay within to burst out ahead.

Like the ugly duckling shun by clutch contentious, and mum,
That transforms to a magnificent white swan glistening in the sun!

Alice said: "When you have to turn into a chrysalis and butterfly on queue,
I should think you’ll feel it a little 'strange', I would, won’t you?”.

“Not a bit,” said the Caterpillar, with a leer and sneer for all to hear.
"You'll get used to it in time,” as it sucked its hookah into gear.

Premium MemberBaby You're a Firework

Sudden sound of rushing water
A mighty roaring wind
Carrying a flame of fire
It settled upon me, flowing over me
As a baptism in silent seas
A moment of stillness lasting a lifetime
Filing me with the heady warmth of fine wine
An overwhelming feeling of love and peace
Boiled over from my eyes, dripping salty tears
Then I knew
The earnest search
The frantic seeking
For the truth of all things I had been embracing
For these many months, years...
Was finally filling every void inside me
Stretching this unlikely vessel to the breaking point
And every ounce of truth and love
Was as gun powder inside fireworks
The moment the spark of fire fell over me,
That baptism of fire from the Holy Spirit,
Had ignited!
And now EXPLODED forth from me in words and emotion
In prophecy and unconditional love
The testimony of Jesus Christ burst out from my mouth
Filing other willing vessels who seek truth,
Who are searching for the face of love.
Maybe you.. like me, didn't know But...
Baby, you're a firework!

Anxiety in Sobriety

Feeling so alone in a crowded room
Missing your friends while finally seeing who your true friends are
Wanting to get out and go have fun
But realizing your old ideas of fun only ever landed you in trouble
Starting to see what everyone else was seeing all along
Ashamed of who you were before
Knowing you never would have gotten where you are now without being that person
Conflicted by your own thoughts and emotions
Feelings start rushing back that you had blocked out
Your heart starts pounding as if it will burst out of your chest
Unsure of how to survive your new journey through sobriety
Keeping your inner circle small
Reaching out to everyone on your list
Expressing your anxiety
Explaining every little trigger
Praying they will understand
They tell you to breath it’s ok to not be ok

A GOLDEN AGE

A GOLDEN AGE

It was the early Sixties when music changed
Rock Around The Clock had paved the way
But many previous styles had seen their day
As modern songs were differently arranged

The Mersey Sound burst out upon the scene
The Beatles in particular, led that revolution
Then almost very year adding a new solution
Along with many others, all young and keen

Of course there was always the U.S influence
And Motown lasted longer than was expected
Loyalty to the favourite radio station selected
But soon, instrumental tracks made less sense

Electric guitars earned their permanent place
But distortion spawned so many a new effect
And much studio tech that helped to correct
But the Pop TV shows filled a popular space

Much music of that era did sound simplistic
But with classic songs and arrangements too
Yet committed to embracing what was new
Despite some Hippy overtones of the mystic

But that memorable decade drew to a close
Whilst colour replaced old black and white
A beat generation was mostly treated right
It shall return and be welcomed, as it goes

A Perfect Murder

I stabbed
straight into her heart
then wiggled the knife,
twisted and turned.
The blood oozed out
covering the blade and
my hand in scarlet red.

She gave a blood-curdling
shriek and moaned.
She looked at me with sheer terror,
There was a crazy look
in my inflamed eyes
My chest was all puffed up
and heaving badly
My body trembling with pent-up rage
I gave her a vile sneer;

And then…
She could hold it back no longer
and burst out laughing
When she saw
the retractable toy knife
and a couple of ketchup pouches
in my hand.

Premium MemberOnly The Plants

An animal in search of a suitable zoo
Learned to speak, read and write
A man in search of a dream
Successfully lost his ability to think
A robot in search of a sense of humour
Imagined himself to be human
And burst out laughing for the first time
Only the plants weren't looking for anything
Taking life as it comes
Dying and being reborn
Just as they were.

A dream in a dream

Thought streams formed and built up the dream;
I was both subject and the theme.
I believe things aren’t as they seem;
I nearly burst out in a scream.

I drifted into a deep stream,
Forming the heart of the first dream.
I shone bright like a guiding star,
While others trailed behind, afar.

I slept in sleep, defied time’s flow,
Dream within dream, a dreaded woe.
There, life took on a vibrant turn,
Showered with gifts I could not spurn.

Success drew close, wealth in my reach,
I needed peace without a breach.
But hell fire consumed me whole,
And I prayed heaven as my goal.

I woke up drenched, my heart raced fast,
Salvation possible at last.
Tears welled up, trepidation swayed,
Fear and dread ceased to invade.

An echo called, so sharp, so near,
A voice breaking through calms from fear.
Mother’s touch brought me from that pool—
Water splashed; her morn’s cruel tool.

Hell was a dream within that dream,
A chance to be part of God's team.
Grateful, I have another chance ~
With God in a new circumstance.

Light

A light glimmers. Dim at first but light can’t be hidden for long. Darkness cannot overcome the light. Your light, yes, that light burst out of me even when the darkness seeks to consume. Darkness that rolls like thunder coming in from the north. Seems unstoppable. But you are unstoppable. You tell the darkness no more and it ceases. My mind takes me back. The tricks it plays when I forget. When I go too far in and the light seems dim. Did light ever exist? I cannot remember the day but only night.
A light glimmers. Dim at first but light can’t be hidden for long.

Plumage

You found your plumage
In your feathers
When the sun was on your wings
And when the thermals bore you on
Your heart burst out in song

You roared in flight
You scorched the sun
You sang the song unsung
And in your plume your feathers burned
You plunged; your song undone –

You found your solace
In your feathers
When the gloaming preened your plumes
And when the moon was on your wings
You dreamed of other things

And what you learned of darkness
And what you learned of light
You learned the day you burst into
The heart of heaven’s eye
Burning out in flames of youth
Your plumage blazing bright –

A CANARYS TRICK

A canary pulled
The trick of his life
When a cat
Moved in for the kill
The canary hung on
An unlocked cage door
So, when the cat leaped
The canary slings open
the door and the cat
Leaps inside, the cage
Door slams shut
With the cat locked inside
He presses his
Pitiful looking face up
Against the cage, as if he was
Begging to be released
But the canary looks at
The cat, and then burst out
Laughing, he laughs so hard
That he keels over and falls to the floor

Keep the child alive

It is always ok to mess things up when you are not in a good mood.
You can definitely behave like a child and it does not make you rude.

Occasionally we may need a tight hug when we feel upset, low and sad.
It's the child inside us who needs the warmth and wanting it is not bad.

Once in a while you can jump in a puddle and splash water all around.
Make faces for no reason and want to annoyingly just frown.

You may want to scream at the top of your voice and then burst out crying.
Fail multiple times while doing a task but still not stop trying.

Love and adore a person who has never done anything good to you.
Wanted to fly and get your work done when standing in a long queue.

It makes you no less qualified to behave like a child sometimes.
It rather makes you feel positive and happy in hard times.

Thanks & Regards,
Shivani
