College-League Baseball Sonnet

Small stadium built in the late forties,
minor-league once, but has been left behind,
built with girders and backless, wooden seats,
a local relic of an older time.
The players look so young, barely can shave,
the pitching is rough and some balls are dropped,
a few have been drafted by big league names,
one has promise, at ninety-four was clocked.
Young kids run around, and between innings
some do wacky races upon the field,
but have fun even if they’re not ‘winning,’
and the high-fives from the players are real.
So far not a hit has yet cleared the wall,
but six bucks is still good for live baseball.

That Glorious Sound

Every kid loves to hear that glorious sound The crack that echoes around the playground A young boy just swung his tightly gripped bat Like lightning he runs leaving behind his blue hat

Right off it's a home run for this newly formed team Friends shouting, hardly believing what they've just seen Running past each base we can hear this young lads dreams Hey dad, someday I'm going to be on the big league teams

Glowing Eyes Meeting a Surprise

Glowing Eyes Meeting a Surprise.

See shiny faces containing glowing eyes,
That will wait for me to create a surprise;
Another of my great poems did appear
That has overcome trouble and all fear.

We shall seek God wanting his consent
Having Him explain things that he meant
Appreciate and appropriate to consider
Always be friendly and refuse to be bitter.

What makes all my poems seem so great,
Will teach you much as well as educate;
While a perfect example shall always set;
God removes all sin along with each debt.

Free at least is what we finally have found;
Fervor and freedom are in their soft sound;
Found that God has mystery and intrigue;
With Him performance will be big league.

Premium MemberWhen Flowers Bloom In October

Plant in your heart, seeds of stars a-plenty,
Thence will come to thee,a white turtle dove.
Bringing you peace and serenity.
Stop being on the top, you are so darn boring!
Let another fellow human being share some glory.

Poetry? The Daytona Freeway, a rush to the lead.
Yes, in all due course, that “need for speed!”
And what about helping another?
Some do, with great blogs, like no other!

Contests, yes, do make them very difficult
to win.
Perhaps a roundeau, might fit in.
I feel like I am at a burger joint_))
Fast, easy poetry...what’s the point?

Who really wins, when things are easy?
Nobody…………it’s terribly, poetically, sleazy.
A trophy is no prize when we pen like sixth
Graders.
Then let’s face it, we are adults who are
literary traitors.

Try to get into a genuine publication.
Much more difficult but the wise here,
take this one on.
And unafraid to be part of a mature,
shining, true, literary nation!

Play big league here, we all have
something to learn!
Poetry is about making the ordinary,sublime.
Many here are extraodinry and make our
hearts shine………… thank you!

Premium MemberMy Man

This a phrase I hear a lot;
Who’s your man, who you got?
Mine’s the man who at games end;
When death has crept up to his cot;
In peace will dream his final dreams;
And these would be those fateful scenes;

A man, a boy, with ball and gloves;
Their eyes alive with a big-league gleam;
In a back yard lit with evening sun;
A mystical moment then on the dream runs;
My man is sitting on a bedroom floor;
Sipping imaginary tea with a girl about four;
She’s telling a story with dramatic flair;
Oh my! But it’s a tale of epic lore;
Dreams shift quickly, so it is with our story;
My man, a woman basking in morning’s glory;
Coffee aroma permeates the air;
They hold hands and he has to stare;

A dream will suddenly fade to black;
But mine’s the man who’d spend his last dime;
To drink imaginary tea, just one more time.

Absent

Absent was the word I remember as meaning
not present in school.

Now that term represents way more in my life.
Being manic depressive there are certain levels
of insanity you deal with daily.

I'm now entering the big league.

Just think of being in the worst possible spot
mentally but still keeping some sane thought
and pushing on.

Usually my poems share some metaphor and
analogies. Not this one.

I'm now entering psychosis and delusional thought.
 To all going through this just remember there are many
beautiful things in this life. Hang on please.
These thoughts of self hatred and esteem issues.
Stop and think.
Why let insanity and grandiose thoughts
make my decisions.
Love your self

Premium MemberHoly Crappola

Holy crappola
Every day that goes by
Gets tougher to remember
To do up my fly

Constantly happening
I'll be flying low
The girlies do gawk
As I put on a show

I'm totally oblivious
To the reason they titter
Imagine they find me
A big league hitter

No idea why
They look down below
I AM well endowed
Must enjoy the show

Then this kind old gent
Pointed down to my crotch
Seems after I peed
To zip I forgot

Embarrassed no
Disappointed yes
Was enjoying the girlies
Attention, I guess!

Premium MemberCole Hamels

He is a San Diego native southpaw.
One of the best young pitchers I ever saw.
The Phillies chose him first in 2002.
In 2006 was his big league debut.
He has made his presence felt with all the teams.
He can baffle the best of hitters, it seems.
With wins and strikeouts, he will be the team’s ace.
Nobody can knock “King Cole” out of his place.
He will be pitching with many home crowd cheers.
May he delight Phillies fans for many years.

Think Before You Act

When the lights go out
An the curtains close
Everyone goes home what do you do
Do you stay behind to study your lines
And make a fool
Out of the people that never believed in you
Do you go home to talk on the phone
Or play games to entertain
Yourself for the time being
Doing activities that are useless
Should you train for your upcoming games
So you can do your best
To play in the big league Because that's what you've dreamed
Since you were a little kid
Or decide to follow in the footsteps of your family members
That never achieved anything
To help but in the family history
But through everything you've been through
Good or bad
Either way you learn from your mistakes
Once you know good from bad
You should always think before you act

Premium MemberSalute To Ryan Howard

You took over play at first base one day,
and showed everyone you were there to stay.
Your big league career no one could delay;
you were too talented for Triple-A.
An imposing sight, standing at the plate
with a powerful swing pitchers would hate.
When you were at bat, we would often hear
the broadcasters yelling: “IT’S OUTTA HERE!”
You received for the first season you played,
“Rookie Of The Year”, a prized accolade.
No better choice could have ever been made!
If more seasons played are like your first year,
you will have had an outstanding career!

Written back in 2005 after Ryan Howard was chosen the National League's Rookie
of the Year.

Little League

One, two, three strikes your out
Playing our rivals, another epic bout

The stress of playing inning after inning
Sweaty hands and butterflies are all beginning

It's the start of the seventh inning stretch
A Coke and peanuts are a great fetch

Bottom of the ninth, MAN! we're behind one run
Rally caps are out, and the chanting has begun

I'm not a big league baseball slayer
I'm a ride the pine little league player

I wish I had the courage to say;
"Put me in coach, I'm ready to play!"
