Best Zest Poems
He toddles toward the pebbles, tumbling the smooth stones over
in his four year old palms, rubbing them like Aladdin’s lamp, tossing
them back into the mix, impishly shining with the zest of a boy.
He sees the overflow of snowy petals, finds the lowest hanging
stem, the gardenia bends to touch his greenhorn nose. Forever
that scent will remind him of grandma’s garden like she remembers
the tubes of trumpet petals in her own grandparents’ backyard. A
twinkle of tremulous joy impacting the fingers of her and her siblings.
The rare treat of parties, the round table laughter, heartfelt antiquity.
The boy explodes from the bottom of the driveway into the steep
mossy front yard, feeling each measured bounce, ne’er a straight
path to the door, exploring the red and yellow roses, the crumbling
timbers, walking the wall, following scurrying lizards, stepping on
ants, a roving eye for the fearful red, yet no thought of turtle monsters
nor copperheads that have precariously occupied my property,
nor coyotes that have encroached the boundaries. Unboundless energy,
nerve, verve of a courageous man in the making, trampling his feet,
owning the property then oh so gently snapping a stem, handing
his childhood princess a gift, pulling strings of a puppet’s heart,
winding the twine like pulling in a windswept kite, ever learning
nuances of my mind, tucked away to love, rebell and trust.

Darling, you are my gift, my treasured gold.
I braved pain once that our joy might reach crest,
So, now for said joy’s passion, answer bold
amour's question born from my heart’s own chest:
As love’s keen ache, will you crave me with zest?
No words trite on this sentiment may lay.
Just love words eloquent may our love say.
Such happy promise dances to please us
As Cupid’s quest quivers are aimed your way:
Will my bliss know your shot of lust, kissed thus?

I live where
lime trees bloom
before spring has come,
where early unattended fruit
drop from the trees...
I gather some
in a silver metal bowl
and place them on a table.
These green and yellow limes
are round, redolent, with a clean
citrus flavor. I squeeze one,
release its oils, and rub my hands
with wringing motions,
cover my nose to breathe
the fresh, clean scent --
and marvel, once again,
how such simplicity
can cheer me.
Laptop at hand buried in my cozy bed
- Distraction -
raining outside but words stuck in my head
- Focus -
is needed to clarify my thoughts, get them out
- Teasing -
messages from him to my inbox right now
- Consuming -
driving me crazy with emotions all intense
- Insanity -
overloading, give me some peace tonight
- Relax -
be in the moment, breathing calmness and still
- Creative -
is when my mind can be free at it's very best
- Reflect -
on experience, putting it together to connect
- Luring -
all my mind heart and soul into poetry zest
Be here now
For time moves fast
Leave the past
Love endows
Zest for life
Starts where you are
Dear bright star
Purge all strife
Look and see
Live well your truth
Show wise proof
Forge beauty
Stretch your goals
Purpose knows quest
Live fun fest
Joy takes hold
Think good cheer
Feel passion spring
Dare each fling
Live love dear
Love each face
Style happy smiles
Keep fond miles
Walk with grace
Think thoughts grand
Feel the way
Voice fine say
Be a friend
God is here
Sense lovely touch
Learn thus much
Peace endears
Be set free
Go on your way
Live to see
Soul that plays
Come and go
Dance with delight
Know insight
Sync with flow
At the end
Know on sure soul:
I am whole
Love transcends

God created the Earth
And stood back to see.
What more did it need-
Maybe some green trees?
It needed more color
To make it look its best,
So he created all the flowers
Just to add a little zest.
Roses, violets, and lilies of the valley,
Snapdragons, azaleas, poinsettias, and dahlias,
Chrysanthemums, marigolds, zinnias and fern.
I cannot name them all, now it’s your turn!
The flowers added color,
And lots of zest.
Now, Earth was beautiful-
It had passed the test!
Zest for life
Zest of living one discovers
Inspired by life’s demonstrations
Beyond the desolated wastelands
within wintered caverns frozen
oppressed body of its mind
outside prisoned visions
where gleams of hope are found
thresholds on new foundations
spark of life’s creations
sunshine in the distance appearing
peace and understanding bestowed
comes from knowing we belong
to life and its living
Hearts at rest deep in healing
within the time of now extending
un ended ever ending moments
you are given within its coming goings
On all our travels that we travel
the sky sublime as it is great
wide earth beneath its treaded feet
which mark the paths we tread
Winsome boy looks
Styles a quick peek;
Then goes to school
~~~~~~~~~
In still moments
A touch of joy;
Another year succeeds
~~~~~~~~~
Zest in a fest
Breeze sure ease;
Wake joy profound
~~~~~~~~~
Brisk as s breeze
Easy strides here;
Active walking moments
~~~~~~~~~
Seek to find
What seems lost;
Realise the truth
~~~~~~~~~
Sly smile curls
Drool of crafty eyes;
Await menu strange
~~~~~~~~~
January wet spread
Monsoon winds sway;
Pregnant agenda
~~~~~~~~~
Weekday shopping mall
Random strides stray;
Another Sale
~~~~~~~~~
Late dinner buy
Takeaway meal packs;
Detour spreads thin
~~~~~~~~~
Drowsy eyes droop
Let noon siesta;
Dreamy delicacy
~~~~~~~~~
Sense haiku zest
Empty corner seat;
Waiting for deep poise
~~~~~~~~~
Why question?
Answers float away;
Classic quotes hint
~~~~~~~~~
Bills arrive
Punctual as usual;
Pay as you go

IN ZEST AND ZEAL
Be positive, not negative.
Go active: Fittest to survive.
Never turn stagnant or static.
Run dynamic, optimistic.
Interact bold to act with tact.
Self- dependence is strongest fact.
Busy life not in indolence.
Easy throw gaining confidence.
Dance delight casting aslant glance
Frolic freelance, not to miss chance.
With zest and zeal, always in thrill.
Work ceaseless, desires to fulfill.
Head erect, mind pure, brain directs
Respect Morals and let dictate.
Be precise, something to surmise.
Success in progress: No surprise.

Even though my precious life
is askew and imperfect, it is rife
with beauty, love, never-say-die optimism,
and it still shines as bright as a prism.
Despite the ever-constant ups and downs
In my face you see smiles, not frowns.
I live life and revel in it with gleams of hope;
beset with hardships, I find ways to cope!
So swell, this life of mine; I feel the jive of it,
the passion of it! My life's torch is always lit.
I'll live this fun adventure once, only once;
'tis a journey I won't squander like a dunce.

I find myself wishing for a portal
entering a far off fairy tale land;
To begin a wild adventure unplanned,
I follow a Sun not gold but purple;
High in the sky an amethyst circle
shines a fetching glow on emerald sand;
Limits on possibility are banned,
eyes open I’m no longer immortal;
I rub the fantasy out of my eyes
and smile at how life is such a gamble;
Reality is it’s own brand of quest;
Deadly lingers in Earthly paradise,
toxic can lurk in a fertile ramble;
Fortune favors logic flavored with zest.
Passion for life is exhilarating.
Climbing to heights of reward.
Achieving a top overrating.
Amazing a great afterward.

ZeAL its synonym and enthusiasm I think,
Earnest I'll pursue around every wave and kink
Still aware of the goal to excel,
Till it ceases the chiming of the beckoning knell!
Epigram #94:
ZEST
Style zest as default poise
A smile speaks a sure choice
