Forty Winks

I am a narcoleptic,
I sleep at any time,
no doubt I’ll drop off frequently
before I end this ………………………………rhyme.

It can be quite embarrassing,
between just me and you,
in the bank the other day
I dozed off in the queue.
As if that wasn’t bad enough
I let out quite a snore,
a real raucous rasper
that left my throat quite sore.

My constant napping problem
has somewhat skewed my fate;
destined to be a spinster,
I snooze on each first date.

There was one special fella
who took me out to dine,
my face was drawn into my plate
as I closed these eyes of mine.
He gave me money for the bill
and stifling a grin
he walked away and whispered
“You’ve something on your chin”

I think I’ll have to end now,
I’m sensing heavy blinks,
I cannot write another word
I need my forty ………..................... winks

Premium Member As the Sun Winks

On the cold of an early day...
Mist hoovers atop low grass

I stand with chilled toes...
With only my head above the rooftop

As the sun winks rising
It bakes my face, to comfort

A feeling of warmth warms my bod...
As I watch the moon fade

I close my eyes and tilt my head slightly back
Then, I think to myself...

Such a beautiful, wonderful morning
Then, I look down...and the mist is gone

a flick of the hair head tilt-
a little coquetish smile a teasing question
all part of the flirting game

tickling winking flattery giggling

speaking those sweet nothings
     chatting up
        flattering comments
            long silly conversations
flirting can be just for fun or be more

friends co-workers total strangers

people flirt

its all in the body language the vocal tone
   volume
       intonation
            feigned interest

the flirter sends out signals a touch a look
perhaps just playful or may be dangerous

a flick of the hair head tilt-
a little coquettish smile a teasing question
all part of the teasing game

can be flattering can be uncomfortable
or can be harmless fun or have more intent

blowing a kiss footsies under the table
raise an eyebrow a little hand touch perhaps
send a secret note
     write a love poem
        stage an encounter
flirters can be devious and relentless

the batting of the eyelashes old tactic
but it still works
     next thing you know your
               exchanging personal numbers

Premium Member Of Winks and Wings - Short Conclusion

But here's another odd item, one that gives me a very funny, almost queasy feeling, whenever I think on it long enough. Ever since that day with Clarence, whenever I go to the park pond to feed the birds, and when I finish at the shore with the swans, (as I promised Clarence I would), and go up to the bench to feed the pigeons, that funny little duck with the striped leg, the one I now call Grace, always follows me, and either sits down by my foot, or sometimes, jumps up to the bench to warm in the late-day sun.
And the REAL kicker? There's a NEW duck now, a drake or male, and he's always tagging along behind the female, though at a safe distance from me ... he follows her everywhere, always watching what she does, always very intent on her habits, and sometimes even getting flustered when he thinks she's near danger ... and he has two bright orange legs, like she does, two very striking, piercing eyes, like her, two perfectly shaped Mallard wings, like her, and ONE ... single ... stripe, on his left leg.

My Elusive Huffle-Winks

Living next to great lake havenoclue
spending all of my time just searching
all weathers, knowing one day I’ll find you,
I have smelt you, felt your nasty sting,

why are you so reclusive so mysterious
due to you I have become the same
friends and family think I’m ridiculous
laugh, mock when I mention your name,

I know you’re in the lake somewhere
blue tail Dragonfly told me she saw you
on a dragonflies honour she did swear
I have no reason not to believe lovely blue,

I will search until death becomes me
one day you will relieve me of my torture
as I know you may hide but you can’t flee
untiI I find and record you I have no future,

in my mind I picture you as a great dragon
powerful, fearsome, unique yet so beautiful
want to give up but my instinct I must rely on
just one glance, one photo I’d be so grateful,

after all these years make my life complete
then I can live a normal life, my boat I’d sink
go places, meet new people, drink and eat
eventually I’ll loose my mind, I’m on the brink,

I say to myself today is my last day on the lake
as I did say yesterday and the day before that
show yourself prove to me you’re not a fake
let me see you though it would be nice to chat,

please stop this heartache of over twenty years
surface my elusive friend, give me a glimpse
I need to end this so I can peruse other careers
show yourself my tormenter you great Huffle-winks.

Dragons, Dragonflies and Huffle-Winks and the Girl

She crept in silence down to the swamp

And saw the dark cave where nobody goes,

This whole place shrouded in eldritch trees

Primordial feeling of preternatural bewitching,

The swamps felt alive yet was as green as the trees

Lily pads sat upon it and things below the surface were moving,

As dragonflies hovered above with fireflies

There was a hum and an eerie kind of dim light

And as she crept around to the cave via a ledge

Within she saw two large yellow eyes and smelt its sulphur breath,

Then as she entered feeling brave and yet scared

She saw the dragon laying right there,

It stared at her as she studied its scaled skin

And the fact she was standing here started sinking in,

Then she pulled out a game called Huffle - Winks

And waited to see what this great beast would think,

She explained she believed it would do her no harm

That she believed the dragon relished a life that was peaceful and calm,

The dragon nodded its head in accent

And lit up the braziers on the walls in its den

And she saw the whole place was Luminescent and golden

And floor made of soft loamy moss on which to sit in relative comfort

And the pair then settled down to play this game of Huffle Winks

And in this moment they spent together nothing else existed

And the dragonflies and fireflies fluttered in and out of this place,

They played until she knew the day was soon to fade away

Then on leaving she asked if she could visit again,

The dragon nodded it's head in slow but a deliberate way

And she could have been mistaken but she was sure that it smiled

And she vowed being the dragons friend would now define her lifestyle.

Dragons, Dragonflies and Huffle-winks--

a mythical monster like a giant reptile
This fire breathing dragon spitting out fire
Huffle-winks lizard drinks insect blinks
The swamp waters pales stinks
Doomsday, Ragnarok, end of times
Chaos or evil, symbol of fertility climbs
Associated with water and the heavens
Big wings fire breathe levels
Huffle-winks lizard drinks insect blinks
Dragons fly lizard giant or insect
And in the stench fog covered waters birth
Long before the dinosaurs walked the Earth
A fast-flying long-bodied predator thinks
Huffle-winks lizard drinks insect blinks
Dragonflies not the lizard cry
Fitters by the waters-lake and dragons eye
Insect double winged helicopter found
Hoovering flying low to ground
Huffle-winks lizard drinks insect blinks
Big eyed bug flies lives in the water sinks
Ancient insects long before the dinosaurs walked the Earth
Oh my,
My, oh my!! blowing fire and smoke out the mouth
Blow the winds of fire from your abdomen Huffle-winks
Majestic insect fire-breathing lizard dragon

Dragons, Dragonflies, and Huffle-Winks

A surprise move by the Nordic King
He orders his men to kill Huffle-Winks
They are big-headed junks hollering mouthfuls
Blood they need of Princess Umberta.

'Take them into confidence' the dragons
They are so poor, shorn of fire-power
And master of Huffle-winks takes note of
The dragonflies are so busy with lillipooks.

In predawn strike, Huffle-Winks bleed
Dragons' mightiest scales lose glitter
Legends fall into pieces,vulnerable stories
Litter the pavement to be walked over.

Now, she tramples the path out in garden
In regular errands to Umberta's studio
A baby dragon little feet wonder chum
The princess is happy with the kingdom.

Comfy cozy from my view
If I could I'd cuddle you
Troubadours have soft hearts too
They love their bluebirds, yes they do

Red guitars can play romance
Even though they cannot dance
They know just where to go in France
Nothing happens ever by chance

Rose buds and vanilla base
Together perfect in Embrace
So feminine, a fragrant trace
On you it's found it's rightful place

When God Winks

What makes us stop and stare
or wonder why we ended up somewhere

Have you ever been drawn to the opposite direction
in which you planned to go

Made an unexpected friend along the way
Maybe even extended your stay

Arent these signs we're supposed to read
Leading us where our lives need to be

Take heed each time you blink
For each sign, at least to me, is one of God's winks

Premium Member Huffle-Winks , a Knights Story

Huffle-winks came from the forest of Jom
The King sent five knights to track them all down
For they had brought terror to the kingdom
He offered his daughter and prince’s crown.

Four of the bold knights by dragons were slain
But one lone brave knight continued the quest
Through woods, rivers and mountainous terrain
Until quest completed he would not rest.

The forest entrance surrounded by mire
Here the huffle-winks would meet their demise
That is where the brave knight built a large fire
Their enemies helped him, the dragonflies.

Huffle-winks are gone, they’ve not been seen since
The knight wed the princess and was crowned prince.

Premium Member Dragons Dragonflies Huffle Winks

The unbelievable did happen
Much to everyone's dismay
Dragons, Dragonflies and Huffle-Winks
Lost to Republicans Election Day

They blamed it on Russians
Faked reports of collusion
Spent huge amounts of money
Nothing came of their delusionmo

Officially elected
To fix what was a mess
Republicans got busy
And ignored all the rest

Vast historical changes
Less welfare in years
Countries praising the USA
Music to Trump's ears

Deep-stated shananigans
Started coming back to haunt
They had accused Republicans
Of their own criminal jaunts

It was evident to all
Huffle-Winks, Dragons and Dragonflies
That Republicans were still winning
Despite innuendos and lies

The moral of this story...
Exactly what you would think
Dragons, Dragonflies and Huffle-Winks
Are becoming extinct

Forty Winks

If a nap fell in my lap,
I’d let it, for I know
That hours sap and often tap
Your get up and your go.

I’d shut my eyes and, no surprise,
I’d drift off in a cloud,
Where lullabies, in any guise,
Would never be allowed.

For I once thought that no one ought
To waste the day in sleep,
But slumber sought, when nerves are taut,
May make the nighttime creep.

So when I’m spent, I’ll be content
To float away and choose,
Without lament, a quick descent
Into a little snooze.

Jolly Ollie, the tiddledy winks king
Jolly Ollie really mastered that thing
He's amazing to human dragon and elf
He even impressed the Pope
Who's a pretty good winker himself.
