Premium Member Getting What I Really Wanted

I wanted
peanut butter and jam
But settled
for bread and butter
I wanted a puppy
but got a hamster instead
I wanted you to live forever
Until I wished you were dead

You promised me everything
it was always less than enough
You lacked imagination
I was never interested in stuff
Instead of substance you offered tough
Me not being understood was worse than rough

You bribed me with attention
so I would hang on every word
I was the invisible hopeful talker
who wanted to be heard
I waited for your pauses
Hoping for a say
But it seemed that you were breathless
morning night and day

Why did I think you were amazing
the true epitome
I believed in your greatness
the carefully constructed history
A lover of self a strange christianity
Your selfishness
became your blasphemy

Daddy, papa,
stranger, ghost
You gave little but wanted the most
I wanted to know you as a better man
You couldn't tell me that I could or can
succeed in life or truly stand
You lacked the ability to be that dad
All I could think was that I was bad
Still in some strange way,
you're the reason who I am and I'm glad.
My life didn't turn out to be sad

The ones in my life
Who I love and who want
I gift them with more than tears
I've learned through my years
the strength of my ears
By listening to hopes
I've alleviated fears
At times I've been their mirrors
By knowing who they are
I've helped them go far
They're better than famous
They are who they are
When someone is loved they feel like a star
All anyone wants
Is to be on the radar
So thanks to you
I'm seen in a way
Today, when it means everything
Things turned out better than okay!

Premium Member She Wanted To Be a Nun

SHE WANTED TO BE A NUN

After graduating from eighth grade,
She wanted to be part of the novitiate,
of the Holy Sisters of Nazareth.
Dad put his foot down loud and hard.

How she went from that, to nurse,to
teacher ,to comedian and bellydancer?
Are eternal questions to which she just
cannot find any answers!

Who knows what her zany future may
bring?
A palace, a Mercedes? Better yet.
perchance a loving, handsome king?

She has no unicorns of fairies dancing
in her house.
They are all on vacation now~so the
poet's only companion is a cheese-loving,
visiting field mouse!

I Wanted To

I wanted to...

Vs 1
I saw you the other day...
and you looked so frail
It hit me hard to see you...
so thin and so pale
all my bitterness...just melted away

Bridge 1
All my life you were so strong,
a tough guy in every way,
You tried to look after mom,
making mistakes every day...
You denied you had a son,
you acted like you didn't care,
Wishing I was never born,
while I was still standing there.

Chorus
I wanted to...be loved...by you
but...I could see...you didn't want to
You rejected me...so...I rejected you

Vs 2
You should have been a father...
I could look up to
Instead you loved the bottle...
and all that it could do
Why should I even bother...
to get close to you?

Bridge 2
Now I see, it's been too long,
as, I see you waste away,
Now I see I was so wrong,
as you get weaker every day,
Now, I understand that you...
did everything that you could,
'cause your father rejected you too,
and you felt like you were no good!

Chorus
I wanted to...be loved...by you
but...I could see...you didn't want to
You rejected me...so...I rejected you

Vs 3
I grew up promising myself...
I wouldn't be like him
That, if ever I had a son...
I'd know where to begin!
There's one thing I know for sure,...
he would know I loved him

Bridge 3
Now I see I have one last chance,
to forgive all that he's done
Time's traveling so fast...
and I know that I'm his son
When will we ever learn,
it's no good to live in the past?

Chorus
I wanted to...be loved...by you
but...I could see...you didn't want to
You rejected me...so...I rejected you

Premium Member The Frog Who Wanted to Be King

i was a frog who wanted to be king
until i realized i couldn't even sing
    a songbird shrilled
"you're only a croaker out of tune"

still i stood on my stump with a tortured smile
croaking my heart out all the while
i dreamed of being a stand-up crooner
a swamp-side sinatra maybe a little sooner

the crickets laughed
    the herons one-legged stared

every fragile dream i swallowed
sat inside me
    broken and unprepared

the wart-filled toad spat from his lily pad
"you’re stretching your skin boy
settle into the scum"

i carried an empty pond inside
where a thousand thorny dreams went to die

the audience left

the moon went home

a cold blue screen spit its light onto the scum
    unthinking

no one returned my croak

i died a little every time i tried

my face looked back from the pond
    mud-covered
    wart-covered
    ugly

my reflection looked away
all it could do was cry

today the water settled
the mud claimed the surface

when i looked down
    there wasn’t even a frog
        left to die

Premium Member Wanted For Contest

Wanted

Someone soft and warm and sweet,
someone with a soul.
Someone for times when I am weak
to rise and take control.

Someone to stand beside her man
without thought for all his lack.
Someone that when he's not around
she still will have his back.

Someone whose laughter's made of joy
who worships God above.
Someone who knows the meaning
of the word the world calls love.

Someone I know I can forgive
who will forgive me when I'm wrong.
Someone to let me carry her
at times when she's not strong.

Someone somewhere within her lips
I know her love is true.
By the way she smiles at me
as if she sees right through.

Someone through all the thick and thin
the happiness and sorrow.
Someone that can start today
and promise me tomorrow.

Perfectly imperfect
so that the world can see.
I finally found somebody
who is a lot like me.

Premium Member Wanted: New Home For Rooster

A plucky fellow wakes us up each day at dawn
To the tune of cock-a-doodle-do we yawn

How grateful we've been that we need no alarm
His sunrise serenade has far more charm

EXCEPT on weekends when we are free to sleep in
Want to stuff a sock in his beak 'ere he begins

So we decided to put this loud one on loan
The stud-master rooster had a new weekend home

In a neighbor's yard where chickens needed a mate
He strutted his feathered tail, made many a date

So many, in fact, that the eggs did abound
Tributes to his manhood littered the ground

Our sweet neighbor lady has cried out, "No more!"
And we want to avoid a neighborhood war

Can you take him in, not just weekends of course
Our chicks and our neighbor's demand a divorce

This unfaithful fowl needs a new chicken coop
One that is filled with an "open-minded" group

I hope there's a taker, 'cause this much is true
He could be the entree for our next barbecue

Premium Member What I Wanted To Say But Couldn'T Say Mothers Day

no greater love can ever live
nothing can equal what i give
no single act of love is the reason why
many were the sacrifices i gave I
by no means ephemeral
the tears i have cried
my youth and beauty i had to give up
the fun the parties that kind of stuff
each day i suffered a little while
all for the sake of a healthy child
they call it labor when a child is born
for something that really goes on and on
there is nothing in this world
that i wouldn't do
to guard your safety and care for you
to raise up a child in they way
they should go
i begged Heavenly Father
the things i should know
for the day that was coming
the day that you'd go
and there are so many things
that you do not know
they call it labor and indeed it is
but what you don't know is
i'm in labor everyday you live
and though you live
in a separate house
my spirit will live there also
like a little mouse
and though you may live far away
the ghost of me hovers you everyday

Premium Member We Always Wanted a Wife My Husband and I

We always wanted a wife, my husband and I.
He wanted one he could order about.
Laugh. Snort. Snarl. Growl….
I wanted one to do the dishes.

We always envisioned her as willing to help, my husband and I.
He wanted her to do his bidding, carry his food to him on trays.
Snort. Chuckle. Laugh. Throwing back my head in full wolf woman howl.
I wanted her to vacuum the house.

We always wanted a wife, to order about.
To act as a maid, to cook us good food. To care about grocery shopping.
My husband and I have had this dream for a long time.

There have been no applicants.
We lament about it sometimes, sighing deeply.
Usually in the evenings when we are arguing
about whose turn it is to feed the cat.

Premium Member Wanted: Heart

I'm looking for another heart, a new one, por favor,

See, mine is cold and broken - I don't want it anymore ...

It served me well for quite a while, and beat with rhythm, sure,

But its seams are torn and ragged since I heard "goodbye" from her.

I only want a meager one - I don't plan to use it much,

Not for joy or hope or loving, just pumping blood and such.

I won't need help exchanging it, of that, I have no doubt ...

There's no surgery required ... she already cut it out.

All I Ever Wanted

All I ever wanted was love,
they never loved me enough,
I don't think they even knew the
meaning of love.....
To them love is fighting, arguments, curse words, beating, putting eachother
down, and cheating.....that is all I know, that is all I seen.
All I have are unhappy childhood memories,
raised myself, no role model to look up to, no one!
All I ever wanted was love,
just saying the words are never enough,
no hugs, no comforting words,
no one to heal your soul from the hurt,
All I ever wanted was love.

Premium Member I Wanted To Tell You But

I wanted to tell you how magnificent you were.
Your laugh, your smile, the way you said hello to everyone.
I wanted to run up to you and say “You are glamorous!”
I wanted to say “I love you!” because I loved your spirit.
I admired your reckless fearlessness. I wanted to be like you.

But I was shy, and timid, and intimidated by your gloriousness.
So I did not do it.
I wanted to.
Boy, did I want to.
I started to twice, but you waved and said “Hi,” and I could not do it.
You were too TOO.

A bit after high school, you were missing for four months.
Your body was found in the trunk of your car with a rope around your neck.
I was horrified, angry with myself.
For not telling you.
For not being brave enough.
I was so damned angry with me.
For not being brave enough to tell you that I loved everything about you.
Your enthusiasm. Your smile. Your personality. Your likeability.
Your prettiness, your willingness to include everybody!
I guess you know now.
You can read this in heaven where you are no doubt lighting up the angel’s world.

Premium Member I Never Wanted To Grow Up

The clothes pile has started to form itself into a grotesque man
The bedroom door will no longer open due to the heavy garbage can
The stench of the dirty dishes is annoying to say the least.
To get it all out of my mind I take a giant bite of pie – peach.

Don’t you think you should? My house mate starts to say.
But she watches my eyes furrow and narrow and scurries away.
If I wanted to clean and cook and scour and wash dishes and such
I would not have been born on this planet; for it is too much.

Like Peter Pan I never wanted to totally grow up
To pay bills, and rent, and take care of my cat and my pup.
I wanted to forever go to school and have fun and make laughter
This growing up thing is for others, people much dafter.

I know that eventually I will have to get a job and go to work every day.
But since the pandemic has arrived, it’s a great time to cavort and play.
Virus has not done anything but give me a fine relaxing slovenly break.
I’ll make a cobbler next, for it’s time to eat more sugar for Pete’s sake.

Wanted Dead Or Alive

Wanted dead or alive
When I want u so bad I could have died inside
Died Inside my mind with out even noticing
Screaming at myself without hearing a note of it
Thoughts of u are running through my veins
Like a poison ivy strangling my brain
Every thought is consumed by u
Like my every breath is controlled by u
Wanted dead or alive the poster reads
It’s like it’s advertising my deepest needs
A few simple words summing up my submission
Forcing myself to this dark admission
A deep dark world and your the only vision
The light in my eyes, my reason for living

Help Wanted

I stare into his eyes wondering if he will apply
hoping that this time won't be just another
one of the many I have fired
or rushed into hiring
you see for some I barely
glance at their resume
I just let them start
as soon as possible
can you be here Monday?
sometimes my wants
can make me blind
you see these guys
are not a potiental
employee of the month
they are the ones ready to disappoint
barely meeting any requirements
my desire to fill this position
has me aching inside
so I impulsively invite
even though it doesn't feel right
maybe he will do a better job
he might just surprise me
but no I still have this ad
waiting for the one
who can finally offer help
for this heart of mines.
