The elder trees stretch skyward in a lace of silent bark.  Wands of rising branches become dancing silhouettes in the pale moonlight. The wind dies, and the limbs cease their movement. Then, like sentries they stand perfectly still, silencing the clocks.

I hear a lot of shrill people these days
saying that we should defund the police,
as if these people just disappearing
would somehow make all of our troubles cease.

I could point out things would be a sheer hell
if law enforcement was to disappear,
but that truth is obvious...
