UNDEFINED (a true story)
The morning after the total housefire, 52 years ago, when
the journalist asked the elderly man,
“How do you feel after this tragic, sudden death of your wife?”
I’d expected to hear a few sad words
in response to the intrusive question,
But his unforgettable answer changed my life,
As he stated, “I looked up ‘grief’ in the dictionary
and none of the definitions listed fit what I was feeling.”
In the on-screen, hanging silence
Created by his unexpected response,
The interview ended there, holding on to
a side shot of the old man backing away
— with his new weight from the loss
of home and wife…
As he shrugged his shoulders
While letting go a great sigh, and
To define in that last shown moment,
In universal body language,
The Un-knowing
That may wallow within us
Around our resignation to grow past difficult times,
To venture out again to
Places where things may lay as yet undefined
and, therefore, beyond control…
Where tears may for awhile be our sole recourse
To stand for the words of our sorrows
That we share kneeling in prayer for some
Divine guidance to face the further exigencies of life.

Within a calm of sentient breaths,
I ascend above this continental noise
slowly, past dimensions of inner ripples,
a buoyant weight twirls in spiral orders
farther than crests of moon, liquid...
here , within the vortex of holy grace
shines my presence unknown,
and yet aware that galaxies surround
this certain oneness with light immeasurable.
where nothing can be defined
except the full acceptance that I am eternal.

In a boundless night, I slip through the veils of undefined time,
where I glimpsed you as a star lost in an ocean of abyssal dreams,
in a silk delirium of shadows dancing ceaselessly,
where the golden horizon melts dreams into dawn, like fire melting brass.
With hands that have never touched you, I reached out like a bird to the sky,
whispering your name, a sweet echo in the unknown air of the heart,
and when you came, like a breath of wind bringing spring—
I did not lose myself in wonder, but felt the fullness of eternity.
I just sighed deeply, like a spring finding its way to the river,
as if I had waited for ages to immerse my soul in your presence,
the moment your steps enter my waking world, like a dance of spirits,
like an ancient longing finally fulfilled, like a story told by the wind.
The essence of time unravels into strips of light flowing like sand,
and I, a silent witness to this secret meeting, become part of the story,
I feel how silence turns to music and how each sigh is an eternal verse,
and how each sigh transforms into an eternal echo, like a call from the depths.
On the edge of the dream, your outline rises like a banner in the wind,
as natural as the sunrise embracing the mountains, a new beginning,
and I, a traveler between two worlds, recognize you as a part of me,
that was never lost, only hidden in the shadow of desire.
Trees of thickets display different attributes,
the commonness is the cool shade they spread,
and their branches cradle all the birds’ nests.
Flowers frame diverse shapes and colors,
the hidden nectar is the common essence.
All are beautiful, external definition they acquire.
The splendor of the dawning horizon we share,
and immerse in the universal gleam of twilight.
The enveloping air we breathe in equal freedom,
the nights fall with identical darkness on us,
from the stardust we get our fraction of silver.
We’re born equal, imposed definition we acquire.
Evolution drove the diversity in the living,
sculpted the different ethnic landscapes.
We’re not defined by languages and life styles,
our skin may be of different colors and hues,
but we’re all humans with crimson hearts
that pain in agony, rejoice in ecstasy, equally.
Divine essence configures the realm of our soul,
we're not defined by the contrived contours.

For Brian Strand's Contest : All Yours (March 3)
You measure by mass—
diamond resolve turning quietly,
its shape carved from silence,
creating shards of tension.
Light bending—crystallizing
in my shell, waiting to
crack open in the name of
weightless worth.
After all is said and done, cliché style
(Forgive me if this does not rhyme, I'm moving
Past rhyme for the sake of rhyme)
You will have gone away rich and returned for more
Because you thought you knew what you needed
To feel loaded, fulfilled and needed
You thought you knew your needs
And had articulated and defined them to a tee
You knew all the similes that ran parallel to your feelings
But those were nothing more than thoughts
Which is why a mind is such a terrible thing to have
You thought
You knew the right ingredients for happiness
Just the right mix
To make laughter and an electrifying smile
A happy ever after which, you thought
Existed in cash and came contained
In bags of gold marked with silver linings
which you carried a thousand miles
Only to end up clutching a plastic smile
Because all the nonsense you collected turned out
To have a mind of its own
So, you met yourself returning from that place and thinking
Was I better off before I became better off
Or did I believe a lie? Of course, you were drunk then
And you certainly are drunk now
Except you have no idea what it is. You're in the dark like me
And even now I hear a chorus of ayes and nays
And someone letting out a wry laugh and shouting amen
Because the bottom line is this; this will resonate
Even if it doesn't. I will let you be the judge of that
Folks trying to nod and shake their heads at the same time
Take it easy people, this is exactly what you think it is
Name it what you will. If the cap fits, I suggest you wear it
And so, cliché style, you returned
To the place from which you had returned
Because enough was not enough. You wanted more
But needed less of more and more of less
And fortunately, or unfortunately, about this you were clueless
All that glittered was just a bag full of humus
And once you admitted this to yourself a new light shone
And you wondered how come you'd missed this all along
But couldn't dwell on that because you had better things to do
In the end you gave away all the matters that had mattered
And in half breaths cursed and muttered
Words and phrases too precious to repeat in this space
In the end you were richer without the riches
And much more comfortable without the restraining breeches
From a society that had always wanted to define and control your mind
Basically this is true
While she was on a salon queue
For a perfect choice
Later got treated with a perfect choice.
Hiding proof of cheating reason with disappointments
The salon owner uses truth
Advantaging his pen+is spitting
consequences of ******** rain coated
twisting destiny of ink
She ignored promises and swallowed pride
Vomiting Desperation
Trapped in reality fighting consequences
Mistakes accused testifying
Trust was on stake
Maybe karma was a mistake
Waterfalls are not craved to flow on skin of man
Dignity must be maintained from within
That's the basic plan
Insecurities haunted happiness

On a dusty easel at a yard sale awaiting a best offer from a patron
sat a severely damaged oil painting of a very lovely young woman.
Her beautiful frame was fractured and separated at the corners.
She was shamefully abused by some and neglected by others.
She had been colored on by boys, who did not know her worth,
and stored in a damp garage as if she were of no value to anyone.
Everyone passed her by offering no more than a casual glance
except for one older man who had a passion for restoring fine art.
The man stared intently at the battered and abused painting
wondering how a unique piece of art like her got to this place.
With the gentlest of touch, he lifts the painting off the easel
still staring at the portrait, but tilting his head first left then right
wondering if he can restore this beauty to her original splendor.
Yes, that captivating smile, those alluring ocean blue eyes,
and the unbreakable spirit behind them speak to my soul,
so I must try to do what all others have deemed impossible.
No beautiful lady in oil you may never be worth a fortune,
or hang in a museum to be adorned by millions of people,
but you will always be worth one man's time and effort
for his eyes can only see the masterpiece you could be.
My pen I will confess,
For you will hear my every thought
Without condemn
When I’m alone, my head
Is abundant with loud questions
Of where I belong
I sometimes find myself gazing
Through nothingness without an end
I find myself drifting
Through this life without effect
I wonder
If I deserve this gift I’ve been given
From a god I have forgotten
I wonder
If I’m worth what I’ve been blessed
Eyes to see
Ears to listen
Hands to touch
Mind to think
Heart to love
Life to live
I swirl through days and night
Searching for a definition
For this life I’m living
I often try hard,
To analyze and guess,
To investigate and ponder
For things I don’t understand
Somewhere deeper, there must be
Some meaning to this life,
Some way to make a difference,
An ending for the puzzle of the mind
...It's undefined
Is there some hidden meaning?
Maybe in a dictionary I haven’t found
A greater purpose awaits
For care and desire
It bothers and hurt me, to be always slightly out of sight;
A vivid vision out of reach,
Where darkness sheds the light
I struggle to bring clarity
For a vision that might give me an answer
Yet, this perfect illusion
Always fades before my glare.
Just adds more questions,
To my tired endless gaze
Perhaps I'm trying too hard,
To understand it all,
For can we ever truly know
Just what we have in this haunted soul?
But will my searching bring to me
The answers i cant define
Or will it leave me shattered,
And confused as I always am,
While questions bring no relief
To my wrinkled eyes
still...
undefined
The fine line of a dream and a day…
Where two worlds clash into disarray…
The characters change as faces blur…
A stage of themes you can’t defer…
To a pathless journey with spaced apart signs…
Feeling my way through with hands not blind…
I wake into a place where I once only slept…
Onto the foot of a staircase with missing steps…
With no separation it’s all intertwined…
Where my dreams and days stay undefined…
As each thought races, the mind slows down to give such images,
In every sense of imagination, wonder sparks,
Enlightened, I start tapping the keys as the words form into phrases,
Emotion is drawn from these letters that are hieroglyphs to hearts in the dark,
The raw, unrefined, realness to such depth within,
Emanates the wonder flowing goosebumps on my skin,
An awareness of a breeze and smell of the salty seas,
The sunlight that struck within the trees,
Its grace only felt by ones who stop and notice,
Such beauty that submerges any doubt of being,
Any false hope of expectation. Any rage or disappointment.
In a split moment, an overwhelming feeling to comprehend,
An understanding that is forever held but is gone upon a second thought,
Moving each feet with a wonder of the search,
Baring my skin, my ears, my eyes and nose,
In hopes of the next glimpse of such bliss and joy.
As simple as is it, nothing can take the oneness away when all has halt.
Your mind only drifts in the slow inducing symbol of a natural state of being.
A calm that floods your heart and feeds your soul.
It is indeed around me. The effects of which has affected me within.
For now, my mind is ever open in this sequence of these undefined emotions.
That late-night messaging in WhatsApp
Will I not call that love..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she shares her frozen dessert with me
When I toss mine purposefully..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she attempts to cover her concerns
Behind her shying grin
When I pull her nearby towards me..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she requests that I book the corner seats inside the theater
So that I can make love with her ..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she snickers constant on my unimportant jokes
Also, I can't prevent myself from watching her..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she makes herself agreeable
In my arms on the patio at evenings
Also, I stray in her heavenly magnificence..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she shouts guiltlessly
When I give her spontaneous amazements..?
Isn't it love..
When after a warmed contention
She messages me.." I'm irate; persuade me"..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she spares each and every penny
The entire year
To get me the simplest birthday present ..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she attempts to call attention to her annoyance
In case I'm late and grins accidently..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she keeps even a chocolate covering
Given by me for a lifetime..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she is tensed more than me
During my test or result days..?
Isn't it love..
At the point when she gets up early every morning
In the desire of wishing me most importantly..?
I know, and I understand that..
Love cannot be defined..
Love indeed has several definitions..
Love has it's different meanings..
However, for me, love is clear ..!!
For me, love is "YOU"
I do not think
they will ever get it,
I do not think they realize
that it is not something
that we can explain,
it’s not build on lies
its build on friendship
that ties two people together,
that has no expectations
besides living each day
with the knowledge
that someone
understands them…
with the knowledge
that when I’m wrong
I’ll get a kick up the butt
and when I’m heartbroken,
sad or downtrodden
someone is there
that will help me up,
that will hold my hand…
without being judged,
without fear
of opening yourself up
an end up being labeled
as a failure, that its amity
not meant to hurt
or exclude anyone…
it’s a haven for two souls
founded on the grounds
of purity, mutual trust and love…
not the, I want to wake up
next to you kind of love
but a weird, unique unified kind of love…
