Moving through the day
In a blister of heat,
Sparks seem to spray
And bounce off the street.

Shadows are twice as black!
The windows sparkle gold.
The earth seems about to crack--
Frightening to behold!

Backed against a wall,
Moving along its side,
I give a desperate call;
There's nowhere to hide,

I am going out
in the gentle summer rain
remnants of a storm
to feel the drenched cotton fabric
of this threadbare shirt cling onto me like a sheath
