The Sisterhood of the Ziploc

Starving a fever,
stuffing a cold I'm following
happily that old
advice: pumpkin pie,
coconut cake, excellent
for easing any ache.
O Chochona!, it's pneumonia,
so much chicken soup
from friends in the coop,
dark and white, breast
and leg have me almost
ready to lay an egg.

Each wound I have suffered in my life so far
Has taken so long to form a battle scar
But what doesn't kill me, they say, will make me stronger still
And every wound I suffer will eventually heal

Pre-chorus:
This is the silent language of scars
You can read my soul like Braille
And for each sad story, for every sad tale
There are thousands that can't be seen
Because, like you, most of my scars,
Are inside of me

Chorus:*
A sisterhood of Scars
Making us who we are
You become a sister of ours
With every wound
And every battle scar
A sisterhood of Scars oh oh oh…

She was just trying to get home
After working hard all day
Just because she walked alone
That man marked her as prey.
And another who was only eight years old
Had her precious innocence shattered
And got the first wound on her soul

Pre-chorus:
Every scar I have is unique
Even though too many suffer
From The very same things
And none of them were free!
Each one earned through battle
Then a victory! Oh oh oh…

Chorus:*

 Bridge:
My fellow warriors,
My sister's of the spear!
Sing this song out loud!
Because someone needs to hear
Maybe they think they're not strong
But unlike some, This strengths not in our arms!
It comes from with in, from our higher power and when…
…we realize we aren't alone, no not forgotten;
The wounds we have cannot spoil our soul rotten.
They form scars that make us tough,
Make us strong enough,
To go on…don't give up!
Let's hold our sisters up!

Sisterhood

Hey girl, what's up?
just called to check on you,
Cuz when you're part of the sisterhood ,
that's what sisters do!

Be times good, or be times bad,
rather you woke up happy,
or rather you woke up mad,

A sister will listen,
she doesn't always give advice,
she's thoughtful in her responses,
thinking it over twice.

Night or day,
it really doesn't matter,
she'll say girl, let's have some ice cream ,
and get a little fatter.

Be it the kids, the husband,
the job, or another issue,
sisters sit down and grab a box of tissue.

What I have is yours,
and what you have is mine.
Have you ever seen three sisters,
share a single dime?

Well as sisters, that's what we do,
I wouldn't say it ,
If I knew it were not true.

In the sisterhood,
We leave the crabbing, the backstabbing, and
vindictiveness behind.
For it takes too much effort,
and we have too little time!

So sisters,
Let's build each other up,
not tear each other down,
Let's greet one another with a smile,
and forego the nasty frown.

Each one teach one,
is what I say,
let's make empowerment the word of the day!

Let's promote the positive,
or say nothing at all.
Let's lift each other up,
not make each other fall.

Let's be truthful, thoughtful,
and prayerful of each other.
Let's strive to take each other,
just a little bit further.

I'm brown, your tan, she's dark, she's light,
One sister is Puerto Rican,
and the other sister is white.

Our complexion, our race, doesn't play a part,
because the sisterhood, cares not about color,
or status, it's all about your heart!

We won't always see eye to eye,
or always agree,
but I've got you girl,
and I know you've got me!

Storms may come,
but we weather them together,
trying to stay dry,
beneath one umbrella!

So ladies,
When things are bad,
and you can find no good,
there is always comfort to be found ,
in the sisterhood!

As women, we are often misunderstood,
So ladies,
I thank you, for promoting sisterhood!

Premium Member The Beauty of Sisterhood

In my family garden, there grows a lovely rose.
A beautiful blossom who helps rid me of my woes.
  ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I dedicate these couplets to my sister, Frances Rose.

Dearest Sister, Fran,

As children, it was you and me. We only had each other.
Never really felt a connection with our older brother.

Younger than I, by little more than just a year,
you're always there to comfort me in my times of fear.

With my marriage at its end, I was filled with sorrow,
You came to me and said, "I've a shoulder you can borrow."

You rescued me, when in the night 'he' broke my hand.
You are my cool water when I cross the desert sand.

Without you by my side I would have fallen apart.
You held me close when you saw the condition of my heart.

I'm the big sister who should be looking after you,
but you wear the angel wings when I'm feeling blue.

You never make me feel ashamed by saying, "I told you so."
So I'm writing you this couplet poem just so you'll know.

No matter how many times I stumble and I fall,
you bend and pick me up so I never have to crawl.

You are my umbrella when the rain pours down,
my fairy godmother when I'm in need of a gown.

You are my life raft when in the sea I flounder.
You reason with me until my mind is sounder.

You are my protector from those who lie,
Give me strength when our loved ones die.

When others turn their backs and don't seem to care
I know you'll be at my side. You've always been there.

You dry my tears and then bring me to laughter.
And for all you do, I'll be grateful forever after.

If I ask you to do me a favor,
You smile and say, "Sure, what flavor?'

Much more than just a friend...that's a sad cliché.
There is only one more thing that I have to say.

Because you're the only one who has ever really understood,
I love you far beyond the sharing of our beautiful sisterhood.

Sisterhood, Brotherhood

Sisterhood, brotherhood is a state
To be seriously worked at. It is hard, and
Needs lots of grace more powerful than us.

Love is God’s grace He gave on the Cross.
Only such love can take us to love another.
It is so powerful it can overcome our dark self.

When we have this love, our soul will be fed;
Stronger even amidst troubles others cast upon us
And still look at them with deep love and concern.

With this love in us, we are able to forgive first;
Rather than judge hastily and throw a stone
So that retribution and justice will be done.

We will be secure in our inadequacies;
Gentler to ourselves and more so with others
For now we know we are no better than them.

We trust no longer in our capacity to love;
Rather abandon our ego and let this grace
Flow and free us from our fears and unbelief.

''sisterhood''

Is not from binding flesh.
Yet, a love not measured.
Togetherness makes you my family.
We share, care, walk in an unconditional bond.
I have you wrapped tight in my heart.
Attached soul right from the start.
From beginning to our end.
You will remain more than a friend.
You are my sister.

Sisterhood

Today, I celebrate my Best Friend Forever (BFF).
You are a true woman of God
Who knows the true meaning of friendship
Thank God for you and for your friendship
We share a sisterhood that is divinely created.

Blessings on you today.

United Sisterhood

"A nation is not conquered until the hearts of its women are on the ground. Then it is finished no matter how brave its warriors or how strong their weapons."
(Tsistsistas, Cheyenne)

United Sisterhood

I am woman, no accident of birth;
A brave warrior for Mother Earth.
My mission in this time is very clear;
I say to my sisters, show no fear!

In a time when the planet is unsound;
Our hearts are not laying on the ground.
We unite as Sisters proudly;
Raise our voices for all to hear loudly.

We are not conquered, we know not defeat;
Together, united, we can not be beat.
By those who destroys and slaughters;
For we are our Great Mother's daughters.

It is not finished, we are not through;
We still have much work to do.
All across these ancient lands;
Women are gathering and joining hands.

SISTERHOOD OF AVON

Oh how I miss the sisterhood
the brrr...ringing of a bell
a catalog and a smile in hand

the scent of sweet cologne
nearly met customers at the door
miraculously in their own flavor

jingle jangle of jewelry
not fine but touchy-feely

and collectibles how i miss them
and the sweep of my youthful skirt

i was God-blessed with territory
— assigned not chosen,
a secondary job

i recollect three households
heaven sent, angelic psalms
as if I had travelled beyond earth’s borders

first woman, straight-laced, strict
believed every lady should wear skirts
a Christian, perhaps too pharisaical

Brr...ring at twilight and a gruff voice
a man barks, “who is it?!”
taken aback, “the Avon lady…”

a lovely woman practically
knocks over her husband, to answer
the door, sporting silver hair

she invites me in and we chat
over a quite different setting
— relaxed

Christian wearing pants,
so cheery and warming
— the bite of her husband mosquito-like

And now I’m not joking —
Christian sisters living next to each other...
do you see the theme of my life?

this dear woman’s married to a dermatologist —
certainly woman do tip their hat of facts

so i go off to water aerobics and notice my skin
has a rash
so i call
and being young and brash
ask
if i can ask her husband’s advice

the next morning i tell my boss — a naval Master Chief
that i needed to see a dermatologist,
and he laughs, “you’ll never get in”

i say, “sir, i already have an appointment”

so i had shingles, just on the cusp,
and was saved from much pain
for God is good all the time
all the time God is good

and when i step over the border into the heavenly realm
i will still sing of his goodness!

Brr...ring i miss the fine company and the singing
of customer’s doorbells
and one day i will hug my fine
sisters

Sisterhood

I have many sisters, but blood only two
I'd give my for them, if they only knew
we've shared our tears, seen eachothers fears
we've had our fight's, had sleepless nights
threw it all, I still only have two
oh ya they've made me blue
I've hurt them too
we have love and through the years it grew
my older sister, with five children grown
she's got a beautiful life
with many things left unknown
may the lord bless her, and never let her go
my little sister true, has seen many trails with out a clue
with three children almost grown
she's figured it all on her own
the lord gives many sisters
many to be shared, but the ones I keep to myself
are truly really rare
ask me if you dare
I truly deeply care
for what the lord has given me
I never can compare
not to any diamond, not even heavy gold
can come close to the bond that we have grown
and through our sister hood it shows
it really blows my mind how sistershow sisters loves not blind
we let eachother know whats really going on
we love eachother enough to be unkind
my older sister cute, I love her soul deeply I wish she wasn't so dreamy
little sister baby from the start, I can't tell now shes all grown up
a sister is so special I thought I'd let you know
I love them both so much, I hope they like this poem.

The Ying and Yang of Sisterhood

When I was beaten down at a new low
she lifted me up from the depths below.
When I fell quite ill she was always there
with a helping hand, giving love and care.

Tho each different, our moods would collide,
but down deep, our love we could never hide.
When from time to time we would live apart
we always kept each other in our heart.

And now we live together once again,
in our old age, let the patience begin.
We’ve learned to let humor temper it all
with a kind word if the other might fall.

Sisters made stronger, as if we were one
from our first breath, the connection begun.

Universal Sisterhood

The world can sputter around us,
deject and confound us
topple us up one side and right down the other
but I'll still be me and you'll still be you.

The people we love can abhor us,
can coddle too much or ignore us
verbalize truths which would be best if kept hidden
but I'll always know the deep value in you.

Our bodies can start to waylay us
twist cripple, and scold us
turn chestnut hair grey and blond locks to sand
but I will still see the youth in you.

Our minds can confuse us
turn limp and sidetrack us
replay our old memories like black and white films
but I'll never forget the real image of you.

Death may betray us,
may break up and dismay us
take one of us first to the deepest of sleeps
but I'll be waiting one way or another, and I'm guessing, that you will be too.

Soothed By Moonlight

My fears and woes are washed away
As I bathe myself in moonlight
My naked skin held by the sea
Fills my heart with delight.

The sisterhood all here together
Praising Mother Earth
The love we hold within our souls
Fuels our monthly rebirth.

So as we all consider
What the new lunation brings
Manifesting our desires
And to give our new dreams wings.

Predicament of Labourers

Once out of a mother’s womb,
Labourers we all are,
Till we reach our tomb.

We labour for ourselves and others, day and night,
For breakfast, lunch and dinner we all fight.
Yes, we struggle day and night for our basic rights,
And motivate ourselves out of predicament during the flight of life.

Respect all fellow labourers,
Irrespective of whether they are engineers or farmers.
Don’t make it tougher for them to walk further,
By burdening them with the sharp words of predicament .

All of us are brothers and sisters,
United we stand and divided we fall,
Together, we must stand tall,
And help when we hear each other’s crying call.

Let us contribute towards untangling the world
From the clutches of predicament,
So every labourer works with joy and without resentment,
And work becomes a place of excitement and enjoyment.
