I watch
as sun slides down in the sky.
The shadows increase in length,
a dark waterfall descending
upon the sandy beach.
Slowly I inhale and exhale,
savoring the fresh flavor
of the evening’s briny sea.

My eyes devour
swirls of lavender wisteria
beautifying the vast expanse
of the darkening cobalt sky.
My sweet summer
has slipped away
with the setting of the sun
on this autumnal equinox day.

The waterfall of shadows
is now a fountain
totally engulfing the shore,
having evolved into
night’s giant all-consuming chrysalis
enwrapping me body and soul.

A sudden rush of wind
and small ripples on the water
transform into turbulent waves
lashing the shoreline where I stand.
I tug my sweater closer to my chest
as I tremble in the gloaming.

"Amid the jagged shadows of mossy leafless boughs; "

               Samuel Taylor Coleridge

He dwells on the sound, of the leafless branches
Describes the trees, admits the guiltless eye
In conversation with frivolous jagged shadows
His joys and sorrows with a true heart
The tree and he, had already embraced each other
In the winter when the stars shiver under the frost,
the trees go to sleep
Thin branches, like chalk white fingers point up into the air

The passion that everyone feels drunk with
but not so drunk that you drown
With magical power and a warm soul
Strange fluctuation of all natural things
Branches encircled with a beard of moss
a buzzing life of larvae
where the birds can live without alms
Before the happy days are lost in curly
cold and heavy snow clouds

Darkness brings the shadows
Of places I have been
Memories loom in corners
Rattling in the wind
Sometimes whispers haunt me
Never letting go
Race across the star shine
Answers left unknown
Reaching blindly through the night
Someone to hold close
Only to find vapors
Drifting down like tears
Shadows never listen
'Till the morning light
Then I'll follow sunrise
Far into my mind

Then I'll follow sunrise

                          Far into my mind

Shadows

Our shadows were so restless
As we passed from room to room;
They pretended to be living
But they died within their tomb

They shrank a little bit each day
When the sun shone bright above;
And both of us now waste away
In the sadness of lost love.

In days of younger shadows
That danced in noon's bright light;
Laughter floated on the breeze
Till our day turned into night.

Burdened by life's troubles
Our shadows danced no more;
They became the darkened spots
That faded on the floor.

Now death's arms have taken you
Leaving only memories of your face;
The shadow that was part of you
Is now gone without a trace.

Friends come and go, but some have passed me by
as swiftly as the sun that lights my days.
They wave goodbye; I give a little sigh.
It seems I barely had them in my gaze.

Sweet friends I knew from youth. Where have you gone?
My bonds with some of you I felt were strong.
But journeys that we each embarked upon
divided us, and now I write this song.

Its lyrics tell the longings of my heart -
to see and be again with each dear friend
who knew me when and shared a special part
which cannot be retrieved nor has an end,
for memories are shadows cast by sun
which haunt me even when my days are done.

"Amid the jagged shadows of mossy leafless boughs; "

                                Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Amid the Jagged Shadows

The restless wind swept all your leaves away,
gay colors I enjoyed every day.
My heart feels like you, my favorite tree,
in a colorless world I've lost my glee.

My heart is aching as holidays near,
I miss you so much and wish you were here.
Often nights, I barely sleep before dawn.
I'm trying to cope with you being gone.

My sweet granddaughter, with tears in my eyes,
I welcome again a lonely sunrise.
You remain in the shadows of my heart.
With my deepest love, to you I impart.

"If only we choose to see"
        the invisible people,
      Who live in shadows
The sad people with broken dreams

Lost in a world of greed
 No one sees their needs
 As they wander like gypsies
   trying to survive

 Broken people everywhere
  Sleeping here and sleeping there,
 "In slumber they abide"
 Within their well of tears

 Yet they are not alone,
 We too are broken people
 Lost in an illusion,
"If only we choose to see"...

"Amid the jagged shadows of mossy leafless boughs; "
                                                       - Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Where demon seed, long cast o’er hallowed ground
pierces the death hardened soil,
thorn and bramble gather over darkened culverts
as a magpie peers from a barren branch,
seeking chain and splint, shards of the past and refuse
cast along greasy curbs, urine stained and flocked

Street lamps flicker, spitting kerosene among
dampened dreams of misty prophecies,
dripping senseless feelings ‘pon
fractured sidewalks while muted footprints wander,
muddied tracks woven in the darkness
of another’s hope, disappearing beyond the rusted gate

And I, fearless in the cold, frigid winds
gusting towards a tomorrow’d passion,
a bough of moss creaking along desolate twigs,
tortured thoughts and worried chapters,
leafless in this winter of no vacancy
and spoiled apples call…

for I am the Night Keeper, the harbinger of moons,
restless on this eve of starless wishes,
broker of destitute destinations, waiting in
these jagged shadows of your own making
midst crying vestiges of failures found,
to lead you into the depths…

                                 …of your deserved delusions

Premium Member In the Reflection of the Shadows

One brilliant tranquil day, around a turquoise lake,
Autumn had come in and brightly painted
so prettily the branches of the trees.
Overhead the gulls serenely soared.
Below them, water shimmered -softly rippled. . .
I thought how this was how the world should ever be -
beautiful and radiant, sorrow-free.

All of a sudden came a shift.
A strong wind swept the scene; all was transformed.
Fall’s vibrant colors shimmied,
till released, they spread asunder.
Small ripples changed to waves,
which angrily were lashing at the shore.
The seagull’s laughing cries had disappeared.
And streaming rays of sunlight had
become absorbed by darkness . . .
a dreariness and dreadfulness and cold.

In the reflection of the shadows,
I found my flimsy jacket, flung it on,
and clasped it close to me - then even closer.
Wishing that all mankind could find illumination,
I forlornly contemplated that this
was how the whole world would come to be,
and sooner than we know. . .would so remain.

Once, side by side, they walked the moonlit beach
in silence- each alone and incomplete
in disjoined worlds- linked only by the reach
of tiny, lapping waves upon their feet.

As silver beams of moonlight iced the ground
and blotted out the heat of sandy gold,
their warmth of humanness was hidden- bound
beneath blind souls that shivered in the cold.

Yet, on the sand, their shadows danced along-
     a silhouetted couple synchronized
in motion- forms united clear and strong
against the blankness which the moon devised.

Dark shadow puppets sparked romantic light-
gave living souls new vision in their night.

~Purpling Shadows~
 ( Glosse)

 ~Cabeza~

I want you when the shades of eve are falling
And purpling shadows drift across the land,
When sleepy bird to loving mates are calling-
I want the soothing softness of your hand.

(Inspired by the poem 'I Want You' by Arthur L. Gillom)

I want you no matter what tides the year may bring
In winter and autumn in summer and spring
When as a sweet song your name in a whisper I sing
I want you when the shades of eve are falling

When the mountains sings and raises at sea aglow the sand
And evergreens and all kind of creatures enlivens the land
And birds of every color and songs merrily band
When purpling shadows drift across the land

I love you and from your love I happily cling
I'm flying and dreaming of love beneath your wing
Making sweet music together we greet spring
When sleepy bird to loving mates are calling-

I want you I love you through time sky and land
Here and there and in every starlight that shows bright
And when the sun and the moon delivers the day and the night
I want the soothing softness of your hand.

Premium Member In Celtic Shadows: Collaboration With Mike

The shadows lengthen as comes Celtic night,
you are in my arms at the end of day,
my eternal beauty, my guiding light.

We shall be together 'fore soft twilight
To you I run without pause or delay
The shadows lengthen as comes Celtic night.

Love in our souls as our minds take to flight,
lost in your eyes, love we'll never betray,
my eternal beauty, my guiding light.

With emotions soaring to such great height
I yearn to watch the sun's last drowning ray
The shadows lengthen as comes Celtic night

In the gloaming of our passion's delight,
from our love's blooming we never shall stray,
my eternal beauty, my guiding light.

Your romantic writings always ignite
this great love our hearts tenderly convey
The shadows lengthen as comes Celtic night
my eternal beauty, my guiding light.

Thank you for the invitation to continue our Celtic series, Mike. These two have a love that time and shadows can never conceal.

The sun has set and evening falls.
A silver sliver moon hangs high
above my house; behind its walls
I’ve made my bed, and here I lie.

I think of times starlight, star bright,
a girl who never questioned why
she dreamed awake with all her might.
I’ve made my bed and here I lie.

Those wishes wished so long ago
are still no closer than the sky
that’s filled with summer stars aglow.
I’ve made my bed and here I lie.

And though I’m warm inside my room,
Long shadows of the night pass by
my window shade and cast their gloom.
I’ve made my bed and here I lie.

How sensible, how dull my schemes!
Beneath my comforter, I sigh
remembering my tarnished dreams.
I’ve made my bed, and here I lie.

Without a shadow's kiss
           How blooms a hidden rose?
Without a storm's embrace
          How does an oak repose?

In Twilight's waltz, secrets unroll
    the mystery it bestows.
Yet in its gently budding leaves
     tales of resilience compose.

How should I yearn to climb
          I lack the precipice's call?
Cragged visions of distant peaks and
   fallow mind
          a darkened silent beckon enthrall.

Oh, to forge within,
Oh, why, doubt cloaks my inner child.
In solitude's chains
          I hear the introspective thrall.

Yet, tremors are in my soul
and yet a lonely seed begins to climb
A combination of growth
          harmonizing with each chime.
Nourished by tears that sow
          the fertile sands of time.
My garden of emotions still hints
     at a poet’s
          paradisiacal paradigm.

Suddenly, a sunlit coast where dreams
       unfurl in storms
A canvas painted by aspirations
          that gently adorn.
With hopeful brushstrokes
               life-captivating stories that plume.
A gallery of memories
                    a child’s kaleidoscope.
 Once upon a solitary,
                           darkened
                                 locked room.

Perhaps a gardener’s gentle hand
     can stir the fallow ground
Fertilizing roots to depths
           where true potential
once lost - begged to be found.

A dawn’s soft breath a gentle lure
perhaps to coax my dormant leaves unbound
Awakening possibilities in the quiet
                    yet, now fertile ground.

In stillness my thoughts emerge
         unseen, a quiet vow,
An introspective voyage
on the sea of here and now.
My diamonds form from tears
                          not battles' echoing crown

I am a jewel of resilience
forged in the soul's darkest hour.

"Amid the jagged shadows of mossy leafless boughs;"

I sit alone in the Winter of my life
To ponder, the length of years by my own design

Here in this dim-lit realm of shades
I need to leave love's tribulations
on the barren floor of my mind
and free my soul from love's grief
that flows fluid upon the invisible silence
of wished filled yesterdays that have gone
with my lost horizons painted in fool's gold reliance

Perhaps, I will remember a happier time
when the light of life filled my desires
in rendered emotions of inlaid passions
and dreams of wondrous wonder
Where footprints had yet left imprints
upon the virgin landscape of my soul I once cast asunder

Beneath these leafless boughs,
my amber thoughts lay scattered across my memory
as I wrestle reality away from the illusion
and once again fill my empty eyes with tomorrow
Before my life's Winter comes with its dark cold
and buries me beneath these leafless boughs
next to the grave of the love I sold
