Best Shading Poems
I remember clinging on to the naked branch,
which had been my home since the season of birth.
In my days of botanical glory,
flourishing and nourishing in nature
I would spread my vibrant wings of luscious green,
blooming alongside a canopy of compatriots,
shading the world from bright sunlight.
At night we would shimmer under moonlight,
sheltering sleeping nests weaved by 'expecting' birds.
When only baby feathers remained,
and as birdfeeders slowly emptied,
skies altered their aura in hues of grey,
one by one my 'fellow stems' started to fall.
Helpless I watched them decay under trampling feet,
each step sucking the life from them.
Rampant rain arrived soaking the veins of my life,
dripping tear drops upon the ground beneath me.
I wondered if the sun would return to show mercy,
hydrating my crumbling sallowish skin,
but in its goodbye,
I was left abandoned in the cold.
Wondering
is this my destiny?
A temporary existence -
why was I not formed in an evergreen shield?
Lost in thought, abruptly,
the winds began blowing stronger,
rain pelted more persistently -
my grip became weaker
so I let go screaming
I remember falling in slow motion,
being blown around,
twisting and twirling, up and down,
as my
'whole life flashed before me'
Car headlights flashing,
I was defenceless to my upcoming doom.
My end, a predictable fate of fragile vulnerability,
was near, as I prepared for my last sigh.
but before I took my last breath,
I fell upon a brown eyed,
giggling child's face,
tangling in her curly hair -
"Mummy, can I keep it."
she asked
as she placed me carefully in her schoolbag.
in between the pages of her diary..
Sun golden shining warm upon the back speaks
wind cutting cold chills freezing thoughts held
captivating love standing a vigil faraway dream
Touching warm fingers of light in a deep blue painted sky
bewitching clouds gunbarrel grey shooting magic wishes
silver shading arrow points out into the softest peach charms spells
Everything spellbinding shines amazing beautiful enchanting
snow covered mountains cold winds howling and whistling tunes
bells in the distance calls you're the rock one clings to on Trawbrega's shores
Drawing behind the eyes wind bellowing whispers a blessing tides turn waves
inside joy burns one candle warmly flickering happiness butterflies dance
blue blazes to see the soul of a deeply treasured jewel forever sings
unrhymed tercet
There she stands
Centre stage for all to see
Tall and slender
Precariously she balances.
I reach out for her
Draw her to me
My hand skims her body
Slowly reaching her skirt.
Playful fingers find hidden areas
Delighted her legs spring forth
Displaying the very beauty
Of her delicately adorned skirt.
Gaily she dances around
Dizzily twisting and turning
In the brightness of day shading
She gently tends to my needs.
Personal ballerina takes to toes leaping
Merrily bobbing up and down
As emotional to her performance
Clouds cry a thousand tears for her.
Reaching our destination
Slightly shaken, she leans
Watches me quietly drips
Against the wall.
Reminiscent of the day's fulfillment
We acknowledge one another silently
Restful knowing we shall be
One once more.
A faithless entity unhappiness coldly it turns the eyes around coils
breeding misery a vice with hate that consumes unconscious reality
Crawling underneath a thin veil of darkness
hiding within bitterness that licks the wounds
As a blindness burns one beggar in hell's soup boils
tortured by untruths morally shading absent light
Without His Holiness a soul never finds peace
just war without hope develops inside the ugliness
Barefoot in a field of daisies
hair blowing in the breeze
smile beaming ear to ear
babbling brook streaming nearby
A picture, no words
A story, unheard
Sunrays shining down
from the cerulean morning sky
a parasol twirling in her hand
shading those beamish eyes
The cottage of stone hidden
in a bed of spruce trees
ashen smoke flowing
from the ancient chimney
A picture, no words
A story, unheard
The picture won't change
It's what you construe
Each story may vary
based on a point of view
Pictures, paintings, natural beauty
drawings, photos, or sculptures
A picture, no words
A story, unheard
OF SAGE LEAVES AND SWEET FLOWERS…
While flowers may be deemed
The sweetness of nature and life,
It is the leaves of her trees that are
The essences of life, death, and rising:-
It is the leaves of the tree
That feeds and nourishes her;
That ensures her branches’ bearings;
Photosynthesizing her peace and love:-
While living flowers are plucked,
Vase-like buried, and housed until death,
They are later thrown away—forgotten.
But fallen leaves reflect resurrection:-
Yes, in nature, trees shed their shading blades
And for a while, stoically stand in nakedness;
Piercing skyward to the coming resurrection
Of their green and rainbow colored leaves.
Thus, I’d rather be a leaf than a flower;
All trees bear leaves; but all don’t flower.
Leaves—nature’s resurrection symbols;
Her saged bristlecone pine allegories:-
In my countryside, silent at sunset
Long gone is the stress, long gone is the fret,
Long gone is the need to be so wide-eyed
Silent at sunset, in my countryside
Calm now are my skies with their colors bold
Streaks of blue marry with orange and gold,
My mind long gone astray, as the crow flies
With their colors bold, calm now are my skies
Another day ends on my small hometown
It's old, sunbathed bricks now shading brown,
As dusk creeps in corners, silence descends
On my small hometown, another day ends
Down the sun dips behind my shadowed pines
And so easily now my head reclines,
Watching and awaiting some dreamy trips
Behind my shadowed pines, down the sun dips.
Slowly, gracefully your leaves dance in the early morning breeze,
gold edges winking seductively as they pirouette past reaching limbs.
Like blazing dreams they mesmerize me as the sun glimmers silver
against the mazarine sky, teasing me as they tickle past.
Fragrant petals glitter waking sunlight that slowly dries the dew
upon the delicate stamen lashes in your compassionate blue eyes.
Bright and gentle, they watch as the shadows creep slowly through the forest
gazing upon each tiny detail, the changing hues, each movement, and me.
I can feel them watch me, caress me and, sometimes angry, burn me,
but as quickly, your bud drips its viscous nectar to cool the seething flames
and you quiver your branches in chiding whispers of reproaching laughter
as I sulk like a child enveloped in your caring, calming, airy shade.
I lean against your smooth lovely bark and you soothe me.
Long and tall reaching to touch the pillows at the tender feet of heaven,
your slender leafy fingertips spread above me shading my heavy, moist brow.
Though older than I your timeless wisdom entices and allures me.
Oh beautiful gentle tree, how easily could I love you.

"Uncircumnavigated"
Just Around the Corner ...
How did you write
your way
into my story?
A Wolf
and
a Fox
Blitzkrieg.
The rompers
romp in…
This is unprecedented, unwanted,
Silence is Golden
I walk to the beach
and back breathless
cool
you;
me,
debating always debating
internal
within
the uncircumnavigated tracks,
feral white rabbit
marks his mark
Clocks His time
in
Time
the city skyline,
recalcitrant, shading, delicious
Light in Dark Night
winks back
ridiculously knowing
winks back
How did you write
your way
into my story?
When I had already written
keys and locks into
the Chinese Puzzle Box
locked
locked
locked
and then,
unheralded
inconsequential
YOU
bourgeois
gauche calculating intellect
breeze in…
Hornet bites
honey bee
Gold
dribbling

"When" / Elysian Fields
In the shadows of my mind
There is a memory of you, laughing
Despite the pain that hung like a curtain
Shading the windows of your heart,
Stopping the light who glistened
Just beyond your feelings,
Where doubt told you to disregard
The gentle touch of its shafts,
Promising energies that would silence
All the grief that followed you
In my memory, you are laughing
But it is a sham, filled with false promises,
Forged in pain and counterfeit like the summer
Who can’t last, who will move into autumn’s bleakness
Despite all the flowers who bloom with such joy,
The picnics and barbecues, the reminders
That every moment is a treasure,
Blessing those who know that summer itself
Will not last and is a blessing to be thankful to know
Even though autumn is fast approaching
In the days before your death
You were like a fast approaching autumn,
Dressed in laughter and promising to listen
To my encouragement, the praise and support,
Like tokens of my love on display – yet
You were still dependent on the feeling, kneeling
To the bottle, the pill – abusing your body
And your bogus laugh told the story of doubt
That you would ever find your way out of the habit
Before autumn claimed you and then…
Death whispered your name
Before I had the chance to say I love you – once again
A wooden porch looks old like Grammy’s chair
That rocks us of fables, miming her voice;
While a neighbor spoofs wolf legends, beware!
Under the moonlight dim, sweet hours rejoice.
How evening’s ray now settles on the ground
While urban traffic booms, only to impose
On our chalet shading youth’s prints around;
A moment when life blossomed like a rose.

unrhymed terset
Shallow edged with twigs, and sodden leaves
The odors of the earth, green moss and peat
The roots of quiet trees and rotting logs
The crumbling bank where cattails wash their feet
Where tiny minnows dart with lightning speed
Among the roots where wild ducks come to feed
The very core and essence of the earth
Born of melted snow, and sleet and rain
Of birds who roost amid the tree tops high
And breathe the wholesome fragrance of the sky
Trees that sway and swoon along the bank
Shedding leaves of amber, rust and gold
Like ashes left from burning autumn dreams
To listen, standing guard on either flank
O'er twig and stone, with watchful eyes so keen
While shading coves where angler poles have been
Across it's face, a restless ripple seen
Where tangled grass and weeping willows lean
Upon the shores where struggles soon will cease
This place to spend in nature's splendid peace
A man with a creative dream
On an arid afternoon
Admiring God's creation
Relaxing in the sunlight
With his cowboy hat
Giving him a little shade
Watching the cumulus clouds
Shading the desert wasteland
Captured all by the artistic eyes
Of a man named T. C. Cannon
Inspired by Abe's
Native American Ekphrasis
Darkness you have a funny way of shading the light
colour coding from such a pit spinning the web of deceit
clouds within suffering victims cry to the heaven's
Shame on such corrupt souls poisoned by lies
twisting truth shows bad manners condemning justice
to speak correctly false faced inside forked tongues
Where the poor are heavily burdened inside such greed
values no longer hold the ground to address this shift backwards
principles are darned from the fabric sewn into morality
Backwards thinking science crosses a great divide in society
slavery is rising fast where the toils of labour have been reduced
to crusts little crumbs are being swept away like worthless pieces of dust
