Travel Symphony

Flutes, ahead laying the routes
Oboes they off to Villalobos
Harps, dusting off vessel tarps
Violin silenced by engine din
Cello, matching the revving bellow
Piano sad in the canoe
Clarinets are taking private jets
Horns, fasten seatbelts the Captain warns
Cymbal off checking the gimbal
Saxophone, sorry plane now flown
Bassoon missed flight in June
Trumpets in London loving crumpets
Timpanis tanning in Florida Keys
Tambourine, ouch you forgot sunscreen
Drum in Jamaica sipping on rum
Trombones still crossing time zones
Tuba, where else but Cuba!!

Chemo Fun

Sitting in the backseat ~ yackety
she drives like
    crackers ~ wackedy
speeding to the movies?
we can’t be late?
Driver ahead asleep at the
    light
panic stop she makes ~ 5 seatbelts lock
But the
backlash! ........... flying wig
plops smack in my lap . . . .
Screaming fits of laughter all around.
Late to the movies after all,
    not nearly as good.

Dedicated to my friend, Kate.
Breast cancer survivor.

"Road to Lovejoy - Piano for the Self Taught" (Part 1)

Liberation
of a sort
head out the car window
hair blowin’ in the breeze
I can hear the Crickets chirping
in the chilly winter freeze
I’m smiling
it’s good to be alive
until the old man shouts
“Hoi!
pull your head in a
truck’s coming!”
Right hand holding
the wheel steady
reaches over the gear stick
across me
no seatbelts back then
in the old Austin
winds up the window
a roll your own ***
hangs out the side of
his mouth
the Kimberly is a moving
gas chamber
I’m breathing it all in,
holding my paper bag
carsick from the fags
along a very long flat road
it’s seems like we’ve been driving
forever, all those Cane Toads jumping
across the “NO SPEEDING - ROOS CROSSING!” Zone,
We’re moving West not South
Erinmore roll your own
he licks then spits out.
“Count the roadposts”,
he barks out the corner of his
mouth, “that’ll be interesting”.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
there’s a Roo lying on the side
of the road in the dark,
the highbeam discloses it’s been
bleeding, intestines lying ripe
with blowflies and a Red Belly Black
by it’s side
“eating it’s gizzards”, I surmise
I swallow and cringe,
the word makes me think
of Frilly Lizards, throwing up and
I’m praying it’s gone to Roo Heaven.
8, 9, 10, 11,
before too long
I’m sleeping.
This, he’s commanded,
to keep me from barfing.

Ode To Grandma

Ode To Grandma's

She gazes out the window awaiting the arrival,
Of the ones she depends for her very survival.
It starts on the deck as a crescending rumble,
The door is flung open and inside they all tumble.

The baby's grabbed first and is smothered in kisses,
again and again in case there are places she misses.
The toddlers unable to wait in the line,
Around her legs their little arms entwine.
The adolecent may think hugs from grandma the worst,
But remember if she doesn't do it she simply would burst.

When a baby is born another life form takes hold,
not small and young, but in comparison quite old.
Just when she thinks the job of mum is all done,
another career has started, a most important one.

The role of a Grandma should not be defined,
she can be rugged, sweet, demure or refined.
One quality she has, surely must be,
the ability to love each child equally.

Imagine a world without any Grandma's,
Earth would be desolate, akin to mars.
No Probus, Senior Citz or CWA's
No white line, seatbelts or YMCAS's.
All things thought up by grannies with kids welfare in mind,
They truely do keep up with the times.

To a little girl Nanna is a soft cloud pillow of landing,
When her heart is broken or life's been too demanding.
Nanna can speak words of comfort and care,
filled with love and compassion, her wisdom to share.

To a little boy granny is the ultimate playmate,
play cars, pirates, hide & seak, read books until late.
With arms that can open as wide as the ocean,
and enclose him with love in one big sweeping motion.

As your eyes grow dim and your job is near done,
take comfort that your seed is planted in the next one.
As God has created with utter determination,
That seed of Nannaship will be ripe for Germination.

I am just a mere Pa

Np Dinging Seatbelt

What is it about seatbelts,
That cowboys find so bad,
And the worst offender of them all,
Would have to be my dad;

He leaves his belt unbuckled,
And it makes an awful ding,
What is so dang hard about,
Buckling the up the thing;

It dings and dings the whole dang drive,
Music can’t drown it out,
If you’ve heard that annoying buzz,
You’ll know what I’m talking about;

All it takes is a second,
Just buckle it and it’s through,
So pray that horrible annoyance,
Never happens to you!

All Aboard

All Aboard!
We are boarding the train of thought!
I hope you're prepared for this winding, twisting, and turning adventure
Please do not be startled by the complete transparent interior
Even though it seems like it nobody will see the real you no matter how hard they try
Let's begin!
Here we are at Happy Place, if you look to your right you can see simile sea
Off to your left you can witness metaphors meant for more than failed loved attempts
Let's move on
At this moment we are crossing over superhero bridge
If you look through the floor of our lovely T.O.T.
You can see Black Panther and Captain America fighting it out
Hulk and Thor, Superman and Batman, Spiderman and Ironman, all of these heroes having disputes
Don't think you're the only one having a hard time trying to figure out who's the hero or villian
Maybe it's just some type competition
Our Conductor himself lives competitions
Always putting odds against each other what he likes to call conflicting contradictions
Now we are entering the tunnel of dreams
Do not fret the darkness its always like that in here
Fasten your seatbelts because we all know dreams can come true
But don't forget nightmares are dreams too
Let's just rush through this like we do with any task
Who said we can't get it done right and fast
Okay, okay we made it through
Now through our final scenery before we get home
We are arriving passing through fantasy island
Best place to be
Matter of fact the facts of the matter let's just stay here and create our realities
Ice Cream camera to capture the sweetest memories
Now that's a Kodak moment
Kool Aid streams so potent that the coloring is permanent
Let's douse this whole realm in permanent and become full time residents
End the democracies, dictatorships, no more Presidents
It's evident that the evidence proves this is our world to make in any image
The best part of these fantasies
We decide when they are finished

He Crossed the Line

He loaded his family of 7 in a little silver van
knowing it could have all been prevented
No seatbelts on even the smallest of hand
his impatience with the semi ended
along with the tiniest of cries
now the rest of the family wonders why?

Chorus*He didnt wanna wait
            so he crossed the line
            he sealed his fate
            and destroyed every life
            never looked twice
            into the bigger picture
            he didnt wanna wait
            before he crossed the line*

He heard the door close
turned to see her cry
sighed a breath of regret
knowing he could never try
He just didnt love her
the way he knew he should
he belonged to another
and hurt her as he knew he would

Chorus*He didnt wanna wait
            so he crossed the line
            he sealed his fate
            and destroyed her life
            never looked twice
            into the bigger picture
            he didnt wanna wait
            before he crossed the line*

Bridge* Anyway you look at it
            someone always gets broken
            when the hand of greed
            rips into the wide open*

Premium Member Its Enough To Drive You Crazy

To be healthy I'm told I must exercise a lot
Eat no junk food or your going to go to pot

Wear a helmet when your bike you ride
And latch seatbelts in case you should collide

Be sure to get an adequate amount of sleep
And always be sure to look before you leap

I'm told beware of ingesting to much table salt
If you get hypertension it will be your own fault

Its hard to remember all the things that one should do
Oh, oh, now I'm reminded my insurance I must renew

Fasten Your Seatbelts, It's Going To Be a Bumpy Night

The journey of life ends at some holy land.
The roads are so awfully dark and too blur.
The night do seem so long as never to end
And that dreamed daylight appears too far.

Still we tread the stony steep roads of life
On wild desire-car that bears us, our dreams.
Edges of the road slice our hopes like knife
But courage holds us against scary screams.

After the fall of dark night, daylight appears.
Behold there, where waits dreamland of Light.
O Solitary Traveler! Forsake your frosty fears,
Fasten seatbelts It’s going to be a bumpy night.

Flight

we pause
			in flight
			as if suspended clouds
			arms outstretched
			to the sky
			as if imaginary
			silver wings

			reaching far into
			the unborn sunrises
			of our lives
			we are two
			you and i
			in total unison
			side by side

			the luxury
			of trust
			without fear
			the splendour
			of gentle love
			our only wardrobe
			the naked truth

			soaring in flight
			parachutes not required
			dreams shared as one
              	        seatbelts discarded
			for the safety
			each others heartbeat
	                ...up up and away

Evenings In Springtime : Nov 2021

Babies cry, sleep, change nappies, feed. Toddlers drink water from cups. Younger brothers, younger sister, older brother, older sister, small town, large country.
One lane roads, one lane bridges, unsealed, 60mph, in the dark. Bush covered gorges, rail lines across the river, small waterfalls, windows down, no seatbelts in the back seat, lying down, sleeping on the rugs, stopping for carsick ones on the edges. Mum singing, Dad driving, children counting dead possums.
The ways into town run through a long winding gorge or a longer winding coastal road, both prone to slips. Nearest cities Christchurch, Nelson, 200 miles away. Only referred to as the Coast, with its own dialect, only belonging when born there.

Biscuits four trays, oven
Bread hot water cupboard rising, Dad late
Holden Kingswood written off, dead bull

Packs, boots, carbide lamps, white fizzy hosing down leggings, parkas, gumboots, bikes, back porch full.

Flames warm quality coal
Sheet lightening children’s window race
Nothing more calming than the thunder of the rain.

Turbulence 2

In the air, a warning
Lets us know what to expect.
Sit and fasten seatbelts!
Says the captain’s voice, direct.

We close our eyes or take a breath
And try our best to chill,
While making sure our coffee
Or tomato juice won’t spill.

But whether we are calm or not
We have to wait it out,
For it’s a part of what
An airplane flight is all about.

It’s just too bad in life we’re not
Provided with a clue
That turbulence is on the way
So we’ll know what to do.

Instead, we’re ambushed every time
And rarely are we ready,
For with no seat belts we proceed
Unstable and unsteady.

In times of anguish we could keep
Anxiety in line
If only we could be forewarned
And see a seatbelt sign.

Broken Vessels

Cigars and whisky for dinner
Prostitutes for my prostate
Pardon my french, let me rephrase that
Escorts for my ego
Last night,one big blur
****! it’s 6am,7 missed calls,8 messages
Where are you? On my way to the airport
Cruising altitude, mad hangover with a slight case of emptiness

Empty skies.Endless oceans
Fasten your seatbelts,we are about to land
*clicking sound* heavy sigh
Rye for the spy.Lie for the sky
Oh ****! I think I’m still high

Sharpen my blade, I’m out of ink
Draw blood,let it spill
Directly into that vessel, yes, the cracked one
It will hold.Im certain
It’s held lava from lovers
Walked on thin ice with a heavy heart
Treaded the atlas,forming roads
Burning bridges

The last bridge,a bank teller with a best seller
She was perfect and I wasn’t
Somewhere in that line, lies the truth
Stellar thoughts.
Skies don’t need pilots
Oceans don’t need sailors
Vessels do need cracks, they add character

The Bright Side

7:00AM and time is slipping
Hurry to work before boss starts flipping
Brush your teeth, and wash your face
On the way out, make sure to miss a shoelace

7:15AM and time is slipping
Run to the car with forehead sweat dripping
Don’t think too much, just step on the gas
And forget seatbelts, the car is already 40% fibreglass

7:30AM and time is slipping
Slam the horn and curse with head spinning
The traffic is terrible and slow
Why it even occurs would be nice to know

7:45AM and time is slipping
Maybe it is simply time for job quitting
Life is so horrible there is no compare
Bad luck just seems to happen everywhere

8:00AM and time is stopping
Slow down and realize that life is not so depressing
Look on the sunny and bright side
You should really be feeling joy and pride

Notice the puffy white clouds floating in the sky
Just like the marshmallows you always wanted to try
Notice the wind gently blowing through the trees
Accompanied by colourful flowers and buzzing bees

Notice the sound of the ocean tide
Ready to be heard by all worldwide
Notice the brilliance of lightning
With the cry of thunder equally frightening

Notice your lungs taking in oxygen with every breath
Not doing so will result in death
Notice the beating of your heart
Pumping blood until it has become a fine art

Life should be appreciated and treasured
It doesn’t need achievements to be measured
Life is a long term trend of difficulties with progress
Believing this will result in true success

Don’t be forever chained
Time has changed
Look on the bright side
Life is yours to decide

Premium Member A Faded Polaroid Snapshot

Long, winding gravel driveway
  decrepit old Mercury station wagon
    parked there
    doors unlocked
    those big red buttons
    sticking up
     no seatbelts either
Tiger lilies blooming
  all-at-once, on
  either side
  of the gravel
A few years later
  a cockeyed backboard
  appeared on a tree
    supporting an
    uneven, rickety
    basketball rim

Winters we spent shoveling snow
