Best Parallelogram Poems
you and i were the 'good kids'
only spoke when spoken to
never picked a fight
didn't color outside the lines
later we learned that they
were sifting through all our art
ascertaining who lay on the
extremities of the bell curve
who might have a troubled home life
and/or
who might have an aptitude for fine art
... we were somewhere in the middle
fast forward thirty years or so...
we discovered a magic quill
that served as a machete
clearing out the underbrush
of this dense jungle we call
life
we learned to think outside
the quadrilateral parallelogram
and found the outer rim
of that bell curve
we no longer raised our hands
waiting to be called on
we delved deep and found
a singular
phenomenon
inside us -
our voice
From high up
The rushing water leaps
A daring dive into the unknown.
Unrestrained
It tumbles down, eyes closed
Savouring the adrenalin rush
Of bold youth;
It flows in breathless flight
Crystalline streaks of exuberance.
Deafening
The roar of fulfilment
As waters meet and avidly merge.

We dared meet
in clandestine disguise
behind an overlay of water
Secreted
from watchful eyes peering
amid crystalline dancing droplets
Our first kiss
concealed from lurking eyes
extracting jewels of youthful joy
Rainbow arks,
captured floating crowning’s,
appearing and captivating gems

The sea waves
washing empty shells clean.
Laid in the sand, just where each should be.
The being
gone from inside the shell,
leaving colorful beauty behind.
In life's waves
we are born and we grow,
only to die and be lain to rest.
Our souls gone
from this now worthless shell,
leaving behind a unique story.

parallelogram
floats 'pon upper air currents.....
jet exhaust
I saw a perfect parallelogram
in the sky yesterday coming
back from the eye surgeon..
(Not me this time my husband.)'
Those jet seem to pass so close
I don't see how they don't
collide..
Headwaters,
Of the world’s flowing souls,
Cresting to flight and misting rainbows.
Everyone.
Searching for another.
To endure sacrifices behold,
Cascading
Heart’s ladles dip into
Basins of memories in plunge pools.
Waterfalls,
From the rapids of youth,
To the flat waters of golden years

Received an NA in the above contest.
Entered in Edward Ebbs's contest: Only for those NA's on 01.23.16
The contest calls for an explanation of what the poem means to the author:
This poem is a summary of life.
Headwaters=birth,
Cresting=growing up,
misting=your effect on others and the world,
'searching for another'=could be spouse, money, God, or just yourself, etc,
Sacrifices=what you traded for what you wanted,
cascading=life, time goes by so fast
Once you reach old age, hopefully your waters are calm (flat), and not still turbulent or made turbulent due to regret from choices and the trades you made in youth.
Once I tried
to embrace a cascade
A steep descent of a slim river
With a soft
regalia of steps
but she sprinkled scantily on me
But I was
aroused, flushed and reddened.
Enjoying her warm and soft impact
Before she
became a cataract
with strong undercurrents and deep holes.

Glancing down from breathless heights,
Amidst climey sighs,
The looming colossus awakens from slumber
And stretches across Thelwalls linear skies.
The hot engines hissing steam -
Recalled from fond memories long back -
Tumbling like huffing little rain clouds
Down from the lofty metal track;
Wherein brightly painted carriages:
The publicans daughter, the verger,
The magistrate, the chief executive -
Seated first class, all habitually sat.
Swift grandiose arches, a celebration
Trumpeting the artful masons cunning devise,
Boast loudly of the great towers
Parallelogram of terrific forces:
Crossing over in giant leaping strides.
Here below, like Hercules reclining,
The stoic gates of Latchfords black fortress locks
Lift to brace against the immense swell
Far and beyond the chimming remarks
Of Greenhalls absolute, mechanically proven,
Georgian bell;
When, ensconced within a purpose-built,
Purple brick tower:
Strikes the centuries old brewery clock
On the twelfth
Of every God given hour.
A rich bankers cantilever
Pushes doggedly against opposing, sheer,
Red Sandstone walls;
Again the mauve and azure rock pigeon claps...
And then...coo, coo, cooingly calls.
Dry buzzing heat blurs over
The hum of a high noons imcumbent midday;
The coup-de-gras scimitar wing stoops -
To fasten onto its slower-witted prey!
Steeped sides slipping amidst tumbling yellow
Gorse and sporadic flowers
Balk at the foreboding waters edge,
Where, over the denizens swirling bowers,
The resolute little rusting lugger,
Puffing and chugging,
relentlessly dredges and scours;
Churning the murky Eastham silts
That drab Manchester draw:
Into the vast hollowing quays
On beachless, concrete Salfords industrialized,
High-rise dockland shore.
Through the deepest part of the black
Channel
A salt grimed hulk smoothly slips...
Attached by a twisted hemp to the tugboat
That hauls the great ships.
Stirred by the bow waves
Flowing and ebbing like currents in time:
From the trough to the peak
The jettison and flotsam climbs -
Before succumbing to powerful undercurrents
Of irresistible designs!
The augury of him in Crimea was so
That Ekaterina said she was tired of sandwiches
But I did have black tea, black Latvian bread with her black Ikra near Black Sea
Hundreds of kilometres from Kiev and from Moscow in Odessa where heresy breaches
I beated her wings in no confinement,in no vituperation
She flew flower to flower to no destination
She knew I was a drinking son of pride straightaway
And I apprised me that she was a drunk daughter of arrogance having me in sway
At night on table when Putin came with my rassolnik
And said that he had seen many earthquakes being not born a Japanese geek
I felt in my bedroom her shenanigan moves
A carefully preserved time capsule in grooves
Rubbers burnt got her season
and wheels vulcanized got his prison
Dudley Castle and Kremlin cannot be friends
With Timoshenkos pillaging appetites in trusses and bends
Keep your red gown for the right time Ekaterina
For I have eaten all meats-that of a pig, of a cow, horse and bear
And eschew my emotions like a ballerina
A square,a quadrilateral,a rhombus and a parallelogram are not the same when each buccaneer
Vladimirs have always condescended bloody Mirs of Dagestan
In the duel between Russian charlottes and Turkish harems
The fishing villages of acrimony and Satan
I will not count Ekaterina`s eggs for my child`s Ukrainian mother in tandems
Vocabulary used
Ikra-Russian caviar in poetry`s context its the black caviar or fish eggs.
Rassolnik- is a traditional Russian soup made from pickled cucumbers, pearl barley, and pork or beef kidneys. A vegetarian variant of rassolnik also exists. The dish is known to have existed as far back as the 15th century, when it was called kalya
The cry is a teardrop, unheard
Among all the others in a curtain of teardrops.
You stand in the rain that falls out of nothing
The way gray cats move through back street alleys...
The way we learn to live.
You stand obscured - outer edges indivisible
With all your mistaken emotion
Whose passion is spent for coppers....
Planes and angles leading inward - always inward...
An off-color blueprint
Melting in the weighted air above you;
A black & white parallelogram slightly out of skew.
Close in upon yourself - close in...
You used to hold the world at bay
Before you got bone weary,
Wild and bitter....
Cheeks and lashes wet with rain,
Or is it rain, after all...?
Is it really the rain
Or your excuse to stand there like an afterthought,
Fugitive from someone else's deeper scheme
Who put their name to yours...?
Standing in the rain,become the rain;
Become a cry.
Become a teardrop in a curtain of teardrops...
One single moment at twilight hangs suspended;
You turn in the nimbus of half-light mist
To find the street signs gone.
Become invisible.
Become a cry against the teardrops.
Become lost in the curtain..
Do not become at all..
The world is just a shade too slick for you,
Even as the curtain falls...
Even as your curtains fall
Wicked witches aren't the only ones who melt...
Wicked witches aren't the only ones at all...

I have fun with the world of geometry
The square, the rectangle and the parallelogram
Oh' the trapezoid and the rhombus
The triangles, the isosceles and the equilateral
All are a great tight family together
The circles and ellipses are closely related
The formulas of geometry try to memorize
The areas and circumferences
The diagonals and angles
For the trigonometric functions
You discover a new world
The sines and cosines
The tangents and arc tangents
If all this is not enough to entice you
Most probably now you fell in love with geometry
Rinsed aground.
Recording existence.
Abandoned dwellings wait to be found.
Each new tide
Decorates the seashore –
Leaving remnants of moments in time.
Dawn awakens.
Sunlight sparkling the sand –
A woman strolls, collecting seashells.
Her thoughts soar.
Oh sweet creative mind!
