Premium Member A Diminished Respect

There was a time.

There was a time
When your fabled dreams
Seemed honest

A time when
Your open arms
Coated in dented silver and tainted dreams
Understood my Size 12 shoes

When the world seemed to be against you
Yet, still,
Your blunt eloquence welcomed me home

Then, your “rainbow”…
…shat
           t
                er
           ed

Your heartbeat became an arrhythmia of petulant theatrics.

Your topaz coated spit
Released from refilled white-out bottles,
Brushing away quartered moons of an iridescent shame

A copycat of robotic muses
Infringing upon your pedestal,
Turned loud mouth, afflicting broken tongue

The “Stalin” of a messenger’s wit,
You raised your voice to a poignant sky!!!

And, as if Yahweh cured your muted disorders,
EVERYBODY HEARD YOU!!!

Including me

That was your goal…
…excluding me

From incipient edge, I witnessed you,
A turpentine puddle in front of a confessional booth
On a melancholic Thursday morn,
With ripened glares to avoid your hallways

Tangled, dangling pacifiers as your doorbell

...

There will come a time.

There will come a time
When social feeds will deprive your vexing smile
Of validation

Where ignorant heartbeats will awaken
Through lyrical epiphanies
To see your “rainbow”
As a faded, stolen crayon

Where flirtatious dialect from withered accomplice
Licks cubic zirconium’s aftertaste
Forgetting that karma doesn’t tolerate one-night stands

For me, that time is now.

Then, I knew who you were.

Now, I know who you are.

You are not what you say.

A false advertisement in Sunday’s illiterate paper…
…with erased verbatim amongst your mirrored peers

Remembering how you falsified truth’s smile

Dire requests for empathetic warmth of our yesterdays
Yet, my Agnostic coat could never be thick enough
For your saturated, dual face

Nights Out

Disco dreams and disco balls
Big city,bright lights
Pub crawls and bar fights.
Mini frocks and hair dyes
Made up faces
Mascara filled eyes.
Vodka martinis and champagne
Bus trips and black cabs
Standing in the rain.
Nightclubs and deejays
Entry stamps on wrists
And tattooed fists.
Late nights and hangovers
Fast cars and kebabs
White wine spritzers
And mishaps.
One night stands and live bands
Autographs and queues
Sing-a-longs and sad songs
And over packed loos.
One line gags and handbags
Glitter and sparkling eyes
Cigarettes and suffragettes
Gossip and lies.
Brawls,another one falls
Drunks and punks
Frilly skirts and love hurts
And late rides.
Secret kisses and front row seats
Cinema aisles
Red lipped smiles
Beauties and beasts.
Flashy cars and night time stars
Takeaways and glad rags
Silly jokes and whiskey cokes
Dreams and high hopes.
Nights out and walkabouts
Cheap thrills and teenage wonder
Hitch hikes and motorbikes
Delinquent lightning and thunder.

A Understanding of the Past

I remember summers past in the south
and the sultry heat.
Iced tea and back porch confessions.

Making time with that first love.
The swing underneath that old tree.
The radio playing softley in the background.

Thoose ways have long since died.
Replaced by a breakneck pace.
As were all to willing to forsake a conversation between
two human beings.
It's all about one night stands and bragging rights.

It's like comparing velvet to burlap.
All harsh no mystery.
Where people would rather surf the internet
than ocean.

The passion of the kiss.
Is but a dinosaur that people
view as some old silent film.

A blanket underneath the stars
Has been replaced by a encounter in a
bathroom stall.

Upward we advance as deeper we sink within the
mud.
As the poet reflects ink drying
in he pen.

I recall thoose times so very slow.
To this sudden stand still.
Like a pile up on the interstate.
I no longer live I wait.

But the sunset still haunts me.
Along with the scent of the salt filled air.
that tree's swing does no longer stand.

As in dust and memories it's been taken with
the wind.

The road echos of another time.
For all that was free and wild.
Is slowley vanishing.

As we blindly advance.
I'll sit and watch the tide.
And be happy to be left behind.

Loveless One

Sweet young girl what draws you to me.
Is it a laugh between friends.
The ocean goes far beyond were the eyes can see.

Are you but a dreamer who's lost in the dark
searching for the sun.
How I yern to tell you it just get's better
my loveless one.

Tears in eyes head in hands.
So many stops along the road.
Broken souls and one night stands.

I can see you when not here.
A jukebox cuts the sadness.
Fools cling to the past like a drunk
clings to a beer.

The bitter mans heart crashes to the floor
not leaving behind a trace.
I wake to emptyness after dreaming of your
embrace.

From the pages I wish you to to
read into the empty arms I wish you'd
run.
To cast away the sorrows
my sweet loveless one.

Drake Made Me Do It

I started to miss you as soon as I played his music
Marvin's room came on
It reminded me, our relationship is similar to the lyrics in that song
I didn't want to message you, But Drake made me do it

You don't need to reply, just hear me out
Thought I'd cried enough, but once again the tears are out
I don't even know your whereabouts
have you found happiness? What are you scared about?

Do you think about me?, do you miss us?
If I call you, will you pick up?
Do you have a new man? Does he kiss enough?
Damn, this is my fault, I never did enough

Are you in a committed relationship with life plans?
Are you in the club weekly, having one night stands?
I hope you know that you deserve better
We met at the wrong time, but right now we could work together

I've grown a lot, even got help for my depression
I know it's too late, but losing you was the lesson
I had to lose you, in order to find myself
If you ever need me, you know you can find my help

I started to miss you as soon as I played his music
You're probably happy with another guy, by now
I'm sorry but this was something I had to write down
I didn't want to start missing you, but Drake made me do it

Love a Broken Man

Do you have it in you to love a broken man?
Do you have the time for a man who's trying to be better than his past?
I was kicked while I was down, but will you help me to stand?
Do you have it in you to love this broken man?

Let me tell you about myself so it doesn't come as a shock
I'm trying to gain feelings again because I've became numb to what's lost
I became isolated after I had my arm extended and no one offered a hand
I'm trying to change my ways and be a better man

I come from a broken home and I need fixing
We can complete the puzzle because maybe you're the piece missing
I'm a working progress that needs a lot of Working on
I've got a lot of bleeding wounds so i cant pinpoint exactly where i'm Hurting from

I've been stumbling drunk out of clubs at god knows what time
Just trying to cope with a broken heart and lost mind
Drinking most nights and waking up to a hangover for breakfast
I'm just trying to grow up and stop being young and reckless

I'm tired of the one night stands and meaningless flings
Before I fly again I need someone to help fix my wings
I wonder if such a woman exists that can cope with this
Would she be able to fix my heart and give my scars a kiss?

Maybe one day I'll find out where this princess is at
Give me your all and I'll pay it with interest back
Every day I'm growing and trying to be better than I am
Do you have it in you to love a broken man?

Do you have it in you to love a broken man?
Do you have the time for a man who's trying to be better than his past?
I was kicked while I was down, but will you help me to stand?
Do you have it in you to love this broken man?

Rick Heart's Warmth

Through the darkest of nights with cold ice
Yet remembering in my heart with warm love

A time in the Midwest an Irish French family of Seven
The fishing , boating and woods sent by Heaven

One night stands out that warms my Heart a frozen state
It was Winter having a Basketball Game to cheer at ..very late

asking others too many times before for a ride
~ here comes my pride ~

calling many times only receiving a machine
standing by the only payphone , out of change
It's now 3am calling collect , freezing my bones , the Scene

I was giving up thinking.. shelter where to find ?
snow falling hard, last call , my oldest brother answers

Never have I forgotten that frost bitten night
~ through the frozen snow I see his headlights ~

Rick driving his " Mach 1 " Proud , Foghat playing loud
He my Hero like an Angel takes flight , certain he saved my life
~ It was God whom sent him out in the cold freezing night ~

( This is a poem entered in "Hearts Warmth " contest , also a true story of love
& dedication to my oldest Brother ) I always proud .

I'M a Rose

I hate the way romance is lost
on the societies of today;
The ripple effect is a greater cost,
for love becomes a mere game to play.

No more flowers and dates,
just ice-cream and kisses;
No more endless debates,
just morning texts and late wishes.

The concept of courtship is re-defined,
and friendship boundaries blur;
To loyalty, common eyes are blind,
and yet hearts still claim intentions are pure.

What happened to the gentlemen who held the doors?
And the ladies that blushed at a glance?
From where comes the existence of playboys and whores?
People gambling with feelings and chance?

The world is so de-sensitised,
for this is now the norm;
Anything deeper becomes emphasised,
and stands out, for it doesn’t conform.

Old-fashioned is the given word,
for those who choose to wait;
Outrages stories become heard,
one-night stands to end a date.

Well, I won’t fall for cheap pick-up lines,
give me love letters to keep over time;
And I’m more drawn to the Shakespeare’s and Einstein’s,
than I am to the food-stains and grime.

I would find more joy in silence and holding hands,
than in empty kisses and meaningless words;
And better than a dinner worth hundreds of rands,
is a picnic outside, with the birds.

I’d rather gaze upon the stars at night,
and know my love is true;
Than dance in clubs till morning light,
and fear regret for what I might do.

A warning to those who look my way,
my heart will not be torn;
and if you’re looking for daisies, then walk away;
I’m a rose, do not bring out my thorn.

Letter To My Future Wife

I'm sat here wondering what you're doing tonight
Have we met before? Will we reconcile later on in life?
Are you a complete stranger who's yet to be in my sight?
This is a letter to my future wife

We're strangers at the moment, I don't know where you are right now
Are you happy or are you trying to turn your life around?
Are you loved up? If you are, I'm sorry that it's going to go wrong
But after the heartbreak and when you meet me, you'll see it was so you could meet the one

Do you have kids? Do you have them in your life plans?
It just means you'll have more experience to make me happy if you've had one night stands
I hope you'll laugh at my terrible jokes, Do you believe in Fate, Karma or destiny?
When you give your number out, do you sit wondering how long will it take him to message me?

Are you blonde or brunette? Do you dye your hair on a regular basis?
Do you prefer a chilled weekend, or to go out and get wasted?
Are you the type to steal hoodies off your man?
If you are, I'll make sure i'm stocked up by the time you land

I don't make promises I can't keep
But I'll always kiss your forehead before bed and hold you while we sleep
I'll always be there for you to call on
And I promise to remember anniversaries, if you're quiet when the football's on

I don't know if we've met before and are yet to get things right
I don't know when you'll walk into my life
When you read this, will you think it was something weird for me to write?
I hope you enjoyed my letter, future wife

So Little Time So Many Secrets

I’ve utilized cleavage to get out of a ticket or two
One time I had a very fun rendezvous involving fondue
Ohh and that time with the old boyfriend and the canoe
Do you know how many things you can do with a kazoo?

One night stands? I’ll only admit to a few!
I had a morning of bliss with the tour guide at the zoo
I proudly joined the mile high club the last time I flew
That afternoon with my piano teacher…yabbadabbadoo!

I had my own pre Marti Gras parade just of the blew
I sure did give a thrill to the guy who works the drive-through
I’m elated that the hunky cop was into it too
How do I get to the top? I bet you wish you knew!

A Spring Love Affair

A flower...it grew.
A seed embedded beneath the soil.
Daisy,roses,violets are blue,
Lily of the valley, spring has renewed.

Faintly birds chirp before my eyes have awaken,
roosters crow, while grandsons are raking,
Cows are milked, playgrounds are built,
Swing into spring, flowers are racing.

Who will be the first to announce it's presence
Pollen drops from above seasonal changes progressing.

Lust is everywhere,
while love is in the air.
dress basically bare,
floor covered underwear.

One night stands
True love romance
kiss between lips
loves tangled dance

Premium Member As Good As Any Place

I had been in town about a month or so
And I was thinking ‘bout settling down
After fifty years of always on the go
This was as good as any place that I had found

I’ve had a lifetime full of one night stands
And dates I bought working on the street
The longest relationship I have ever been in
Would be with the next girl that I meet

I met this widowed lady
She seemed to be real nice
After years of grieving her long lost husband
She was ready to end her lonely nights

Then her twenty-five year old daughter
Came to my room that day
She said, “I’d really appreciate it Mister
If you’d listen to what I have to say”

She said, “I think my Momma loves you
And I think I can see why
But I think you’re nothing but trouble
And I don’t want to see my Momma cry

“So, I’d like to make you an offer
To keep you out of my Momma’s bed
If you promise to be on your way again
I’ll offer you me instead”

I’d like to say that I grew a conscience
I’d like to say I found my mortal soul
But to a fifty year old withered man
Her body was like a big pot of gold

We made love in the early evening
We made love again at midnight
We made love when the morning sunshine
Provided the first rays of light

We made love again in the afternoon
We stayed in bed all day
But at the end of twenty-four hours
Again I was on my way

So, I might be headed to your home town
I might be looking to settle down
I might be hoping that the next place I find
Is as good as any place that I have found

Settling

Bittersweet memories are too hard to forget
It hurts too much to be happy
It feels too good to be sad
So we settle for less
We settle
Deep down in our seats
Sinking, bottomless, dark
Scared
Gripping the handlebars tightly
never letting go of the yearnings we felt
just a while ago

We settle for cold nights and silent treatment
Pecks on the cheeks and one night stands
Martini kisses and dividends
We make due with fake car chases and
Tooth fairy dreams

So we settle for the comfort instead of the
Pursuit of the Flashing Lights
Thrill of the chase,

Crash and Burn

Laughing at night with hands entwined
Fingers laced with the knowledge

That we all ache the same
Inside our chests
Heavy and delicious
In such a delusional way
At 3:46 in the morning we leave the residual
Pain in the dust
Sunrise in our eyes
Blink twice
Amnesia of the brain
And we settle

In comfortable lives until the day we awake
Looking in the mirror
And saying

“damn”

Trying to stop each other walking out the door

Still gripping the handlebars

Begging for another chance
Another game to play,
Give me another hand, deal it out
But it always plays out the same

Watching the stars in cosmetic mechanics and matching principles
Trying to understand
Negative space
The universe in quantum medicine and teardrops in their eyes
The fake smile of his lips, the curve of her spine

And we settle
For another day

Nyc Noir In Black and White

NYC nior in black and white

NYC nior in black and white

Dark landscapes 1957 NYC
of automats radio city and hotdog stands
memories of things past

Take us back to lucid dreams of light and shadows cast
set the stage late night dark wet NY detectives on the beat
slow moving like grit and steel they stride down the great white way
steam and clouds shoot to the sky from sewer covers
smoke rings blast out from bill boards of urban midnight cowboys
from route 66

On the street hipsters glide down in pinstriped suits
cool sleek long with straddled watch chains dragging
smoking stogies from drooping lips
wing tipped shoes rested on black boxes at shoe shiners row at 53rd and lex
wanting fem defal’s dark diva’s in fish nets tight red skin dresses with sleek spike heels long cigarettes with long brim hats and netted veils as they walk the line swinging their Purses leaning against posts on the foggy corners

Dharma bums gaze at city lights dreaming of old bards songs
through garment push carts and rushing feet
in the machinery of the steamy night
the boxcars moving past open doors

The cities glare in shadows bare
neon signs striptease flashing in the backdrop of honking horns and traffic
night clubs casinos and one night stands in greasy motels
pool hall hustler’s poker players loan sharker's and scheamers
whisky bars dockyard and widowed screams
tenement houses windows open curtains drawn
sweat and muscle tee shirts yelling out to others
saxophone city of butchers boozers bribers and brown baggers

Bright yellow checkers and taxis on Times Square
down the smoke hazed dark lanes against the hard walls
slim Jim zoot suiter’s lazy dazed side leaning
roll loaded dice with steaming cheap Tricks

Newspaper stands and barbers shops with marbled checker floors
white steaming towels with waiting hot lather
man with straight edge and black leather strap leans over
with Sinatra playing in the back

Neon city balanced in chaotic disorder of abstract lines
of municipal signs
city where monk lady day and Coltrane play Improve
in old coffee houses of smoke filled cafes for pennies a day
as street poets whisper and drink their troubles away
dreaming of Brando bogie smoking Joe's and blondes
of slip hips and jive

Him Too, Or the Drowning Femenist, Part I

Dylan Carston was a well-off young man,
thanks to a large and health trust fund,
his father was a true Wall Street ace
and had been quite generous to his sons.

Dylan had set himself up in Miami
after years spent getting his MBA,
he did consulting four days every week,
the other three he did like to play.

He’d partied with friends at all the bars,
and had his share of hot one-night stands,
not yet had he thought of a wife and kids,
he was enjoying the life of a young man.

One Saturday as he walked down the beach
to get exercise and breath the sea air,
he stumbled upon a frantic woman
calling for him to go over there.

As he drew near he saw down in the sand
a young woman who’s face had gone blue,
he could see no lifeguard near where they were,
but fortunately he knew what to do.

He found no pulse when he listened close,
and placed two hands high on her left breast,
with hard compression he began CPR,
pumping furiously at her chest.

Every so often he placed his mouth on hers
and forced oxygen deep into her lungs,
the other woman ran off to find more help
while Dylan continued the rhythmic pump.

Finally after three desperate minutes
a gurgled rasp echoed up from her throat,
life returned to her, the blue fading out,
though her eyes still knew not where to go.

Moments later he heard the rush of feat,
the lifeguard and the woman had returned,
Dylan gestured to where the girl lay,
“I brought her back, now I think it’s your turn.”

The lifeguard thanked him for taking action,
then knelt down slowly at the victim’s side,
ambulances came, reports were fill out,
when Dylan left three hours had gone by.

He felt good about saving the woman’s life,
it was a moment he would not forget,
congratulations came in, on top of that
the lifeguards sent him a certificate.

Three weeks went by and Dylan returned to
the safe routines of the everyday world,
and bit by bit his thoughts turned away
from the near death of that helpless girl.

So it was with a great deal of surprise
when a process server told him these words:
“Dylan Carston, you’re being sued for assault,
you can consider yourself dully served.”

Dylan’s mind whirled at the accusation,
he had no idea how this could be true?
Had some ex regretted their time and cried ‘rape,’
were they evil enough to go down that route?
