Best On The Dot Poems
People say that they know,
Then she asks them is that so?
Do you know how I feel?
Do you measure every meal?
What it's like to take a shot,
At 7 o'clock on the dot?
You don't know a single thing,
Of the girl with a broken wing.
She's limited on her food,
Which puts her in a real foul mood.
When her blood sugar suddenly drops,
She all of a sudden flips and flops.
She can't even stand up strait,
She thinks that she might actually faint.
You people think you understand,
The most you can do is lend a hand.
Diabetes is no joke,
She can't even have a single coke.
She and her mom worry every day,
They wonder if she'll be okay.
Her bloodsugar can drop really low,
She can instantly become a real big foe.
It can even go really high,
She swears that it can reach the sky.
So for the people that say they know,
I ask them now, is that so?
Waking up for school was hard enough,
still half asleep not ready for the bus,
breakfast on the dot,
snap, crackle and pop,
noisy Rice Krispy's helping us wake up.
12-5-16
Come,
Let us chase the sun.
I know
It is better said than done,
To make life sappy and meaningful-
To keep time, word and money
Is vital.
The steady sun
With the broad smile all
In summer, winter
Bright and duty bound it is
Amid clouds
Black or blue
May be spring or fall.
See the flowers that bloom
The petals that unfold
The pollens that vitalise
The dew drops in morning do glisten
In time the animals so breed
On the dot does the cock too alarm.
To be a salmon I yearn
Leaving some heirs to glow the age
To give up life
In the scheduled place of origin.
As
Points all are as equal
To begin and complete a circle.
All afternoon I waited in at my house for you
But you didn’t show up and the air turned blue!
Called the servicing and maintenance department …
‘Didn’t turn up’ today was my loud lament!
Eric the engineer will be here, but it wont’ be until tomorrow
Four on the dot I’ve been promised or I’ll give him sorrow!
Getting agitated, as I’ve had to take more time off work
He better arrive today … I’m ready to strangle the jerk!
I waited and waited and he still didn’t show
Just phoned again they said sorry Eric’s very slow!
Keeping my temper was a VERY hard thing for me
Let’s make a firm appointment for tomorrow at three
My nerves were frayed I was getting annoyed
Now the doorbell rings, I am really overjoyed!
Opening the door and I see Eric is standing there
Pecs like a bodybuilder… all I could do was stare!
Quickly I invite him inside to try and fix my cooker
Really glad he’s arrived, as Eric’s a real good looker
‘Sorry’ Eric says but I must call back later with a spare part
Then you can cook me dinner - I think I’ve captured Eric’s heart!

Like a warm cotton bud used to give inner ears a clean
there is something comforting about routine.
Knowing where you stand and the order of play,
knowing what to expect at every point in your day.
Living to a schedule, everything has it’s time and place -
knowing the slots you have free for any plans you need to make.
Wardrobe colour-coded, in garment order.
Wallpaper with a matching border.
Appointments at ten to, five to, on the dot.
Check, double-check, the doors are locked.
Yellow ball, green ball then pot the brown.
Big box, little box, upside down.
I like to gaze into the sky and dream, of an afternoon.
Relaxing. Like the scent of a chaste tree, when in bloom.
A cold glass of lemonade, a long and foamy bath,
humming along to the radio, a love that warms the heart.
Reading the Sunday paper, and making it an event,
the delightful things the kids say, things only they could invent.
His reputation precedes him: a disruptive, class clown.
Never completes his work, he’s always mucking around.
A big-mouth, show-off with far too much to say:
He asks if I ever considered teaching him in a different way.
‘A physical learner’ - he’s heard about it on the news.
There could be something in it…but I’ve far too much to do.
Cars whiz about, people in a hurry.
“I’ve waited over an hour for my curry.”
Twenty four seven lifestyle, word abbreviation.
Text message becoming the preferred means of communication.
Everybody rushing, to keep on schedule, to maintain status quo.
Everyone a cog in the system: You’re whipped, if you don’t row.
Seamless is the transition between asleep and awake,
when you just let it happen, not worry about being late.
An unrushed project results in a rewarding prize:
taking your time meant you got it right.
So bin the itinerary, flout the rules,
just for once why don‘t you try something new?
Sunday roast
A meal I loved
for some time not partaken
When Ma was here
Well ~ oh my dear
Served on the dot at one o’clock
And woe betide if we were late
it would be on the table
upon our plate
and steaming hot
Whether we were there or not
Nowadays it’s just for one
Has somehow lost appeal
To sit alone now on my own
I really don’t enjoy
Those crispy roasted spuds
with golden Yorkshire puds
buttered carrots ~ roasted parsnips
on my plate roast leg of lamb
a generous dollop of minty sauce
with thick meaty gravy piping hot
Three cheers for the cook
Three cheers for the host
I can almost taste it ~ I can almost smell it
Ma always cooked the best Sunday roast
Now my grandson is a vegan
his girlfriend she is too
my granddaughter a veggie
oh what am I to do
I cannot beat them
so I will join them
nut roast now my Sunday roast
but I'm still yearning for the taste
of Ma’s on the dot at one o'clock
her Sunday roasts delectable
each mouthful unforgettable...

FIRST PLACE
My carribbean summer love
Was Morning sun in the sand
On the sweet Jamaican island
Home of my mothers birth, land.
As I got off the plane,
I knew I was home.
Warm winds blowing on my face.
So, Gentle was the breeze
"Lord have mercy",
whats happening to me?
I went, to my destination
I walked, Down to the sea.
The heart was filled with such glee,
As sunshine, beamed down on me.
My breakfast was filled,
With fresh vegitation.
Ground provisions of every kind.
Fruits from every tropical tree,
It was simply, devine.
The sweetest fruit, I tasted.
Wasn't a apple, plum or pear.
It was a delicious mango,
that even Adams, girlfriend,
Eve would, not share.
I had such, great meditation.
It wasn't, on material things
It was just the lovely feel of nature,
blessing, my surroundings.
The oceans mesmerizing,
Blue Crystal skys, as clear as Can be.
It was so magnificent & amazing,
pure tranquility.
My eyes could not believe.
Lush green landscape,
The sway, of coconut trees.
Vibrant colours, red, yellow and green ,
flowers decorated, my scenery.
The smell of the oceans breeze,
just captivating
I had to stop and ask GOD, is this heaven?
As I continued, on my journey.
The next stop was Dunns River falls,
Streaming, from the river, into the ocean floor.
I climbed each rock carefully,
just in awe of this raw, natural beauty.
Raindrops trinkling, the air so fresh & clean.
I felt so free & alive, thought I was daydreaming
Didnt need a watch, Roosters crowing
Hourly, Tic toc, on the dot, as time briefly stopped.
To marvel, at this creation.
No scientist on earth, could ever top!!
Later that evening, the moon lit my way,
to where, I could hear Sweet Reggae music play.
Everyone was dancing from soca, pop, to R&B.
The rhythmic sounds all around, At a big beach party.
I had jerk chicken, on the beach as fried fish was cooking near
Deliciousness, filled the air
Love was the atmosphere.
Simple living, smiles always giving. No worries or cares,
My Caribbean summer love
true, Happiness, being there!!

The ABC’s of Morning
Awake on the dot of seven
Birds are chirping away
Coffee… as always, first order of the day,
Doggy kisses from Kea
Enjoying the peace and quiet
Fumble for my glasses to see
Garden shadows in early light
Harmony of leaves in the garden
Intricate patterns at play
Just as sunlight begins, a
Kinship of finch burst away.
Lavender dreams are fading
Mindful of duties to do
Overcoming an urge to be lazy, I
Pirouette to the bathroom to dress
Quietly, I exit the bedroom, a
Resting hubby not to disturb
Sit in the lounge with my ipad
Thankful for all of life’s gifts
Up to date with events, I
Venture to start my routine
Walking, now for health reasons, try to
Xerox this action each day
Yesterday, though, I missed it
Zealot, I’m not, you might say!

When I went to a spot
Thousand miles away from the dot
Dot where I originated, dot that made me a bot
I was overwhelmed when I reached your spot
You, the first one who greeted me so hot
I was warmed and changed my clot
I don't say much, but my heart says a lot
I wish we can be more than what we got
You looked at me with a paper to jot
You didn't say much, but bent me like a knot
You wrote down short words on the dot
Drew pictures of me without a blot
I thank you and I will always love you for that...

Poem for contest: Short Shift, prison,
betrayal, dance, death, death of a friend, destiny,, food,
Short Shrift Betrayal!
Governor's out to dine and dance
With important guests who count
Invitation requested to attend
One five star restaurant uptown
Menu fair is set for seven courses
Savannah cigars and vintage wine
Will be served before and after meals
All timed for 10:00 and well before
Midnight when a dance is to be staged
Toasts before and after dinner is a given
One guest of the Governor's will not attend
Unless the invitation to get away arrives
But he is in for a special treat if not
An execution dinner has been prepared
Prison chef does his five star best to comply
To the wishes for this last dinner course
Of just roast turkey with all the trimmings
Provided with paper hats and prizes gifted
In a traditional Christmas wrapped cracker
And all this sent below at 10:00 right on the dot
To be eaten in plenty of time before the ‘last call’
When this prisoner becomes the Governor's guest
To ‘walk the line’downtown into a cold lit private room
Made of steal to sit in the 'chair'at midnight
Where electrocution will make him dance his last
And his last words will be I'm innocent!
Born as an infant in the dark cold world
We open our eyes and cry as we look at those we love all curled
Taking our first steps into you arm
We know that we live life without harm
Because mother when you kiss me you’re my special charm
Day by day I long for your love whether I tell you or not
God gave me only one shot
And he hit you right on the dot
You are my everything yes that is true
But I do know the love I have for you is like God’s special glue
You and I have good times and bad times we fought through
But at the end of the day in your arms I flew
You are my sunrise and my sunset
Because together our voices make a duet
You are my north star
Because if I look in the sky you are not that far
You are my light
When I am lost in the darkness you shine ever so bright
You are my special mother
And I would never in a million years pick another
The times we had were something of a story
Because you and I worshiped in all of life’s glory
I never thought the physical part would end
But now that it has my soul is something I send
I can’t believe you are gone
Because I cry everyday before dawn
God loved you just as much as I
But I just wish I had more time to say goodbye
I know you are watching over me from up high
So I promise the tears I shed will be happy ones as I cry
I know we are close still just like peas and a pie
Now that you are with God
I know you are more than happy with a smile
But promise me you will pop in my dreams every once in awhile
I will live my life in your light
Each and every night
Just know mom every time “missing you” is played
I remember you always and my love for you will never fade

Strolling down our favorite place on the sandy beach.
I can see your handsome face smiling back at me.
Its 10pm on the dot, the time we always meet
I walk towards your smiling face, you make me feel complete.
I can feel the icy wind blowing through my hair.
The waves begin to crash in again; I can smell the salty air.
I can feel your velvety lips as they gently press on mine.
I feel so warm and bubbly as though I’m on cloud nine.
I can feel your strong arms wrapped around me so tight.
We both look up at the starry sky n the beautiful moon so bright.
As I lay my head on your shoulder, a shooting star flies by.
I make the same old wish; for you to always be by my side.
I can see your brown eyes, staring back at mine.
This where I want to always be, I wish I could freeze time.
You take me into your arms and we dance the night away.
Humming all our favorite songs that we always use to play.
Its 5am already, we cuddle as the sun begins to rise.
Time went by so quickly, I just hate saying goodbye.
The tears started to roll, but you gently wiped them away.
You kissed me on my forehead and assured me everything will be okay.
You will always be watching over me in all that I do.
And when I’m feeling sad, I just gotta close my eyes and think of you.
You will be there by my side to hug the pain away.
And when I fall to my knees all I have to do is pray.
We get interrupted by a buzzing sound; my alarm clock goes off again.
Your image slowly disappears like water down a drain.
I wake up and wipe my teary eyes, a new day now begins.
But at 10pm on the sandy beach, is where I will meet you in my dreams
Every Tuesday on the dot,
I would be off to the newsagent like a shot.

come quickly
come quickly
you silly old dog
when they thought of the name,
they'd probably had thought of a creature like you-well then right on the dot
for a pig with a stick in his eye and a stye for a leg could have begged his way faster to freedom
and found more to eat in a day then you eat in a week-but you stay?
And i wonder and ponder by ponds full of water collecting my thoughts in a vase now discolored
what marvelous mischief might happen if beast were no sanction and all things with thoughts were judged solely on actions
morality then would weigh heavy with sanction and perhaps no man dines at the right of the lord
only a creature, deemed fit to absorb his observance
for now, it is begining to get very hot in this furnace
