One night a guy & a girl were
driving home from the movies. The
boy sensed there was
something wrong because of the painful
silence they shared between them
that night. The girl then asked the boy to pull over
because she wanted to talk. She told him that her
feelings had changed & that it was time to move on.
A silent tear slid down his cheek as he
slowly reached into his pocket & passed her a folded note.
At that moment, a drunk driver was speeding down
that very same street. He swerved
right into the drivers seat, killing the boy.
Miraculously, the girl survived. Remembering the note, she
pulled it out & read it.
"Without your love, I would die."
Be careful when going up a ladder
Be kind to those you meet
Remember,going down that ladder
the same people you will greet
cherry blossoms fall
confetti cast to the wind
tumbling to the ground
orange koi swimming
summer rain upon the pond
lotus of soft blush
bamboo whispering
their voices sing at twilight
serenade the moon
fire fades from the sun
low upon the horizon
bowing to the sea
rays of light shimmering gold
sunset crosses the threshold
***I posted this series of Japanese writings at the request of Dale Cozart. He saw the beauty of nature through these simple words on another poetry site. I thank you, Dale, and the many of you who now see it, too. It was entered in a contest, but the judge thought it lacked 'punch,' and called it "insipid."
A Nipponnet is comprised of three Haiku and a Tanka
Sharp eyes
and sharper wings
with the speed and accuracy
perfection brings
when a falcon cuts the sky in half
My heart sings

For Gregory Paul's Your Favorite Animal Poetry Contest
The white charger's belly is bloated with hay
The helmet helm's rusted quite shut
The tack room door hinges are tearing away
The leather's un oiled and dry
The lance is still good
It is bracing the fence
but I traded the sword for a pen
I am presently seeking a page
So if you're still waiting
and anticipating
A Lochinvar ending of sorts
I shall purchase wild oats for the horse
I recall how to sow them of course
With hardly a shred of remorse
Dear friends/family,
I want to thank each and everyone of you for all the support you'd given me through these past eight years on poetrysoup.Every beginning has an end ,and I guess my journey on this site ends here. I want to thankyou for helping me grow both as a poet and as a person.I will remember each and every one of you,and pray for your happiness.I thank the first friends who welcomed me on ps eight years ago.If it wasn't for you,I would have never been here all these years. You know who you are..And I thank all those friends I met along the way.I love you all.
On the sand your lonely footprints
But somewhere in a distant land
I walk beside you.
RANSOM NOTE
A stark white note left on the front door,
Bright red droplets of blood on the floor,
Dear God, let my niece and child be alive,
Please, please let them survive!
I am told do not to call in the police,
Lest they take revenge and their patience cease,
But I have no option, I must,
True story of this kidnap is lust,
Money they want, I want my children and peace,
I want my children back, please!
I sit anxiously and terrified by the phone,
I’m so exhausted I fall asleep all alone
Waiting to hear good news,
And praying the situation will defuse.
I’m frozen with fear to my very core,
But suddenly hear voices, and a knock on my door,
With trepidation I open, there stand the police,
With two wide eyed children, my son and my niece,
They look battered, a young girl and a small boy,
I couldn’t contain my tears and ecstatic joy,
As I engulf them in a hug, dear God, they’re alive,
You made sure, that you helped them survive!
The wicket culprits were arrested in a dark lane,
Inflicting petrified children with unthinkable strain,
My life no longer seemed senseless and black,
For I had my purpose for life back!
Justice and the long arm of the law had won,
The greatest joy for a mother, under the sun!
Encamped in the local IHOP patio
Doing reconnaissance on the butter pecan syrup
I discern its malicious, aggressive intentions:
To march defiantly down Mt. Stack
And wage a ruthless attack on
Defenseless over-easy eggs
Acting quickly, I wield my fork
Digging trenches in my pancakes
I flank the enemy, staving off
This unprovoked act of aggression
Victory!
Only in that moment do I lift my eyes and notice
A brood of young sparrows
heralding their hunger
The chevron of hang-gliding geese silently
sailing to destinations unknown
Majestic Monarchs flitting
stoically southward
And rival suitors:
An iridescent hummingbird and an industrious bee
Romantically pursuing myrtle blossoms
The canopy of cerulean blue
And all the life within its realm
Resolves my thoughts from war to peace
Note to self:
Don’t forget to look up
With a lump in my throat, I thought "Is this it"
I never thought I would go down with the ship
As I floated in the sea with my life jacket on
I thought to myself "Soon- my life will be gone"
Some last-minute thoughts...
had rushed through my head!
A note, I must write...before I am dead
Drenched...
Written in my mind,
I blew it to the moon with the mist from my breath...
Sealing it with a kiss!
~My family, my friends, my dear wife...
I thank you all for being part of my life~
I love you, all... so much!!
Six children I've raised, beautiful- indeed
Helped my friends, when they were in need
Made peace 'round the neighborhood
Tried my best to always be good
I've had my ups and downs for sure
(As I laughed to myself)
"I've never had a "down" as this extreme, before"
Floating...
Watching the beautiful dark sky
Watching the countless amount of giant stars
Listening to the romantic sounds of the calm open water
Slowly, I closed my eyes...
And that was the last thing I remember
So many nights; still, I cry
Why wasn't I... one of the unlucky to die?
This evening never seemed so nice, at the end of a daylight breeze....
Sunshine without thick humidity
Where the crickets sing around me
A break from gray filled rainy days
The sky prepares for the sun's colorful departure...
Fresh air in mountains splendor
Everything has its value, simple nothing more
All the while, green leaves wait to change color
Come sit next to me, surely you will feel it and see
It's not in the place of society that makes things work
With all the deadlines, promises or a perk
It's the place one must choose to be, on a high note to be free

~I have no room to hide
the only way is to die~
I hate this world
I hate all it's made of
I lost the love inside
You are nothing but a joke,
the way you came into my life.
Why do you keep us from the truth
God do you not love us
Why do you insist on these bruises and wounds
Do you not care about the pain and the scars
Trick us with the vanity of the flower
Shower us with the poorest rain
My God where's your power
Do I also have to die for his name
Drown because of everyone else sin
All I wanted was to believe in love
Instead I opened a book of torment
What did I do to you
Why do I feel the battle is with me?
how did i get raped with hate
What happen to the wings
Why do I feel as if we are all bait
a world of no balance, I hate
I retaliate on my own hate
True love is a program even you deny
I hate the hate you put upon this world
A hate the look of poverty
resent- IS ME!
confusing the heart to feel nothing
I can't bring my self to need you
You never protected me when in need
You left me suffering alone through the deepest sea
the desert swallowed my dearest mirage
you let me down, to many times
I hate that i still talk to you
the emotions are destroyed
do you laugh at my beating pulse
you created many Nations
Meaning you gave hate to this world
making us different in every race
who else has a key of power to your master plan
I m not blind no more
I see things, the way he wants me to see
with truth you hide from me
I hate the way this world rotates
I hate the flavor of it all
I was told i was created by your hands
Not Satan's evil ways
God I hate the world you made
Why rest us in a place of love

Freedom of speech is a fundamental need
that is to be express and achieved
Yet it should not rape human rights
or violates others ' beliefs.
REAPING SEX a simple note
If you wink an eye
At Fame’s restless lonely mate—
Prepare for a storm
Arthritic fingers
Unfold the crumbling parchment
Stained with tears and words
Her blind eyes no longer see
And feels the deep impressions
Still there after all these years
For Rick's contest
The aunites gossip back home
About how you've grown
Out of your white cotton frocks
And into red silk saris
They talk about how you're ripe for marriage
About how quickly boys flock to you--
Your family's rich and you are beautiful.
Like a princess but with none of the excess.
Their perfect Indian girl is rather simple.
But, the real you they can never comprehend.
Those brown khol-rimmed eyes with
That understated nose ring confuses them.
They'd rather ignore your luscious red mouth.
Those soft lips were like velvet as they brushed across my lashes as you pretended to blow sand out of my eyes one drunken night on a Konkan beach.
Both too scared to be the first to say anything
We just sat there drunk and giggling
When the aunties speak of you
I can't help but imagine
Things that leave
Little to the imagination.
I am a woman
And you are a woman
We're on the same page.
The boys will wait.
