Best Munchkins Poems
A magic mirror told the queen that Snow White was the fairest in the land!
This put Her Majesty in a terrible snit and to the woods she had her banned!
She hired a hit man to have Snow White slain but he'd have none of that!
He let her go and she trudged along a path and came upon this run-down flat.
She rapped upon the door and hearing no answer stealthily crept inside.
Snow White had never seen such clutter - such a mess she could not abide!
She grabbed a broom, mop and pail and began to swab and dust and sweep.
Weary from her labors she climbed the stairs, found a bed and fell asleep!
The unlikely denizens of the little shack worked in the local diamond mine.
'Twas a 'Grimm' looking lot wending their way home through towering pine.
Dopey the younger, Doc the intellectual, Bashful, he with the coy pose,
Drousy Sleepy, crabby Grumpy, pudgy Happy and Sneezy with finger to his nose!
The little munchkins arrived home to find this beautiful creature in their bed!
She awoke rubbing sleep from her eyes, stared in disbelief and nearly fled!
Eventually, Snow White became a mother figure to that chaotic, motley crew!
She tucked them in bed, cooked their grub and settled beefs when fisticuffs flew!
Each morn the dorks shouldered tools heading for the pit to earn their dough,
Singing a quaint song they made famous, "Hi ho! Hi ho! Its off to work we go!"
Mister Disney made this classic film in 1937 when I was but a mere child!
Even today in my dotage, watching it with my grandkids, I'm still beguiled!

So it begins.., somewhere
it always must. Right?
Just picturing Dorothy starting out.., followin' Billie Burke's yellow brick road,
on a cause..
with bewitched ruby shoes.
many munchkins encouraging entourage in song..
a crushed one lost.
She was alone then, mostly, accept for Toto only
embarking on a journey to Oz...
Don't ya see?
It was belonging they both tried to find..
That winding road's spiral'd beginning
that's it
that's what it's like..
Blowin' dandelions at an age before
as ages go, seeds on the wind
before the scary sounds, the cries..
who's to blame?
Waiting your turn, soon to rush headlong
her bracelet still hanging on
a battle of bullets and longing
where a hallowed enemy waits...
all shredded waves
now gone
a bracelet worn too, he..
from her., just as you.
It was belonging they tried to find,
both of them.., could've been best friends
before war's indifference..
so glad once.., yet the same
oh, don't ya see?
who's to blame.

I had a girlfriend named Shirley
Who was funny in every way
Her sense of humor delightful
Each and every otherwise solemn day
We gravitated toward each other
In a marching band did play
She had a crush on my brother
So I had to kindly say
He’s a weirdo, truly creepy.
You can do better, he’s not the best.
To which Shirley said with feeling
I think surely you must jest.
They ended up together
Shirley and the brother of mine
They had six little munchkins
Who make me laugh all the time.

As if the house had landed on a witch’s vavavavoom,
the door’s ajar, and my boy had alerted me…
surely tornadoes increase the velocity of speed
of a mom, to zero in on, a three year old.
Forget the broom. Hear the prophet speak
of pleasant things. The boundary has fallen
in pleasant places. If ignored the blessing
clears at the speed of light, taken
from the bright eyes of infinity. Listen to the kid,
not the seven dwarfs, nor the munchkins…
“Mom, come here.” The witch’s broom, stored away.
Clearly, at this point, you think me a witch! C’mon!
Teachable moment…parents lean in. When the dumb speak…
clearly, I mean, when your son is willing to share ANYTHING,
just like E. F. Hutton…stop the presses, lean in and listen,
especially if you want him to trust you with future things,
or trust you at all… so I’m on a run…still my heart…
What will this boy impart? Are we invested in Oz?
A side note, just because…we brought him to see
a 3-D short…the witch cackled…he screamed!
Back on Oahu, Aloha…the door is cracked, minah birds
minding theirs or someone else’s business, as they
are gossipers, given to mimicry. The world has opened,
the sun is shining, as the boy points at a plenary rainbow.
Oh my heart…oh my boy… I know they must grow,
but they forget their moms when they marry,
but moms don’t forget or they shouldn’t - the promise,
the flood of memories… I’m over the rainbow!!

"Don’t try to drag me into Oz
It will never work
I’ll kill the Munchkins and the witch
I swear I’ll go berserk"
--From "Malice In Wonderland" by Joyce Rugg
The scandal behind us,
We look to break through
To a new dimension.
The mind folds inward
leaving creases.
The mind lives inside the the brain—
A large surface if all spread out.
Neurons are agitated;
Glitches occur.
Events spew forth like comets,
And the mind reels.
Mistakes are made like pudding.
Upon a moment’s notice
Some file is missing.
Something in the wiring has
shorted out.
Evil come, evil go.
Evil marches to and fro.

Saying goodbye to summer's
Unrelenting heat brings joy.
Munchkins return to the classroom and
Moms now have a moment's peace.
Eagerly I await autumn's flora and
Relish the delightful coolness of the weather as
Summer relinquishes her throne.
Enjoy the dregs of summer,
Now that the days grow shorter, but
Don't be sad - she'll return next year.

Halloween-ish Memories
For Suzy Von Geldern
I miss you most of all at Halloween.
The way you'd greet the 'little munchkins'
as you called them, and praise them
for their costumes. With your laughing eyes
you'd feign surprise or fear -then invite them
to take candy from a basket by the door.
“I vant to bite your neck.” you’d say,
with the empasis on ‘vant’ and we’d all giggle
in our costumes and delight in the escape.
Why, you'd make the hallway dark and spooky
with a flickerin' Jack O Lantern-
a pumpkin face that Ned would carve each year.
My mind fills with memories of the plastic ghost of Dracula
hung each year in that same spot on that same wall-
We’d pull the chord repeatedly
to hear the awful moans .
Yes! It really is at Halloween,
I miss you most of all

I've had several poets ask who I'd have cast in the roles of characters, so if no one is willing to play along, OR allowed to... I'll still share my thoughts. Since I limited the parts to 3 per character, please know that some of you would've been added to this list, but I didn't want to break my own rule.
TOTO, PULL BACK THE CURTAIN!!!
Dorothy - Tania, Deb M., Anaya
Tin Man - Sheriff K, David K, Mike G (because they are the law in Milton Creek)
Scarecrow- Terry Flood (because of his cover photo and his sense of humor)
Cowardly Lion - I'll just call BS for this one
Wicked Witch - There are 3, but they'd probably try to set me on fire
Glenda-Good Witch - FJ Thomas, Lin Lane, Susan Ashley (perfect candidates)
The Wizard - Tom Cunningham, John Watt, Mo McG (why not a wise woman?)
Uncle Henry - Harry Horseman, Frederic Parker, John Gondolf
Aunty Em- Belle, Paula G., Eve
Munchkins - I thought I'd get volunteers for this role
Toto- Caren K...my only choice because she's as adorable as the little pup
I see no harm in posting this list
despite the one who raised a fist.
If anyone whose name I've used
feels terribly offended or abused,
just let me know and I'll remove it.
Make your own list. Use your wit. (I'd like to see yours, too)
Thanks to those who asked that I post the cast of players.

After the Sunday service, searching back to her
For a date. He will soon be walking back to her.
Bottle rockets popping over the Sacre Coeur.
She suddenly kissed him; he then leaning back to her.
Leave ending, the soldier takes the Gare de l’Est train.
Just outside, from his window, waving back to her.
She travels east by train. He travels south by train.
A weekend in Strasbourg, him meeting back to her.
“Hey! You have another letter. What did he say?”
She reads aloud. He’s always writing back to her.
Five-mark coins clank in the West German phone.
“Je t’aime” heard at her “boulot”; calling back to her.
The Army okayed it. His mother flew over.
Her father was there for the wedding back to her.
First residence in Sohren. First of two munchkins,
Playing under a chair, then crawling back to her.
All night in the post’s delivery room,
Holding her hand. Love sending back to her.
TDYs learning Serbo-Croatian
Through Germany commuting back to her.
Yugoslavia dies as a nation -
U. N. Peace Keeper writing back to her
From Operation Iraqi Freedom
Telephoning, emailing back to her
Now a civilian, travels behind him,
He’s always nearby, staying back to her
Commuting between Monterey and Salinas,
Both approaching retirement, driving back to her.
The Warrior Poet and his wife walk the old dog.
“Hurry Bella.” “Come on girl.” Whistling back to her.

If only there was a wizard
like Dorthy payed a visit.
If only for our wishing.
A far off land exquisite.
An emerald palace standing.
A place for all to come.
Along a yellow brick road
followed down by some.
A path into a city
where all the dreamers go.
A million tiny munchkins
surrounding you for show.
An Oz home to a wizard.
A great and powerful Oz.
A man to answer questions.
Dreams worthy of their cause.
A place where witches bicker
and evil's fought with water.
Where broomsticks are for flying
and monkeys for the slaughter.
A good witch keeping secrets.
Her wand for waving greetings.
And knowing ruby slippers
means home and not for fleetings.

Dip it when you have problems,
Lick fingers as if there are no burdens.
Find myself eating in plates of sorrow,
Chew flesh like there’s no tomorrow.
Fire the aches in a griller,
Roast the angers in a shriller.
Fry everything on the pan,
I’m a lone stress-eating man.
Feel heaven with this food,
Don’t even know if there is a good…
Just taste things like it’s a first.
Forget stress and just die of thirst.
Don’t even care with my weight.
Let me eat fries when it’s too late…
I just eat when it’s much!
Got these munchkins in my pouch.

Did oz turn its posterior, when Dorothy stole those ruby shoes?
Something over the rainbow’s smelling pretty ominous.
Opposites attract, like evil and good. a conflict’s brewing -
The west’s witch is rolling out her plans over a drag’n coffee.
The Rainbow Sun, reports a stirring, of the proverbial pot.
Manicure parlors and parades, shut down in Emerald City.
The horse of many colors has been dyed brown - his cover.
Wizard is wise, to the thievery ways of the “Jayhawker”.*
Glynda, “the goody goody”, sells lies like lemon drops,
And rainbow spectrum opposite, is “crazy” for green.
Dorothy, now “Dot”, begins a band called the “Polkadots”,
Promotion of forward movement, to take over Oz’s perimeter.
The “Ruby Shoe Movement”, an agenda to eradicate “good and evil”
Uses cursory verbiage, to rid the land of a “horde of witches” (two)
Flight line lights up, with soldier monkeys ready to attack.
Those who join the Kansan side, the Polkadots croon, while
“Rubyites” applaud, break out in rainbow song - waving banners.
The horse shakes his mane in dismay, a spy for the arcadians.
Amidst the Rubyites - a cowering lion, a heartless can of tin,
a befuddled scarecrow, and a toy dog. Excepting the dog,
All were acquired on the jaundiced road. It stretches between
The Emerald palace and the village of fisher price people.
Dot grew courageous, when she took a lucky shot;
She steered her cyclonic house, killing the witch of the east.
She swept the streets, greedily shaking hands with
Cheery munchkins. Pulled off the shoe heist like a pro.
Not a witch, she claims, but clicking the butane of her heels,
Catches oz by surprise, chaos ensues. “Get the balloon”,
The wizard blasts, “I will distract her and her Rubyite buffoons”
He sends them chasing after brooms in the gloom of night.
Fortune returns, delights in her prize – a melted wicked witch, and broom.
Henchmen throw weighted bags over Dot’s crew, retreating them back to Kansas

im a lost individual
see me on my facebook
people tell me randomness
im wondering which way looks the best
ideas to nest
but i need room to digest
assuming i wasnt ready
im consumed by my present envy
feeling doomed something come get me
who the what would send me
ive acquired a taste for self destruction
made assumptions on the way to function
on the way to a lunch in
with epiphanies from consumption
a limo turns into a pumpkin
greeted in bright colors by the munchkins
dare i say a pair filayed
jack the price i don't fare a charade
the fact is vice
no one cares your flight was delayed
feed the pigeons at the park
and light me a candle
when playing with a fire
wisdom comes in handfuls
when life hits
its either a piano or an anvil
call me looney but the goonies
were a prime example
welcome to the future
childhood was cancelled
no one gets to ever pay
every chakra channeled
