Caught By a Train

I was caught by a train yesterday

I hear people say
this often in exasperation
exaggerated tones
with over-dramatic groans
as if the train somehow
physically captured them
in its large mechanical grasp
diabolically refusing
to let them go

Yesterday
I was caught in a different way
imagination captured, you might say
captivated
charmed
and enchanted
by the passing art display

Something about the way
vibrant, vivid colors
unexpectedly
splashed out on moving canvas
of rust red and dull gray
traveling fast
across the city
feisty train talking smack
with tags and words amusing, witty
strange, disturbing, edgy, gritty
grinding down the tracks

Sometimes shocking-
artfully rendered obscenities
or surprisingly
endearing
cartoon creatures
manga characters
from overseas
expressed with impressive
expertise
and ingenuity

As other drivers sat nearby
fussing, fuming
missing the show
pawing their floorboards
like impatient horses
hands gripping wheels
ready to go-

I watched the trains in
constant childlike
wonder and delight
for those twenty minutes of my day
two trains gone by, one each way

...Then watched the other cars
rolling through
still red
flashing lights
as soon as crossing arms
were lifted halfway
rushing, roaring
trying to make up
the time that was “taken”
by the railway

My Hobby

Happy am I while I sit
On my sofa while I laze
By myself with my laptop
By my lap while I watch
Yeah, anime and manga is dope.

A source of entertainment
Necessary in my life as an enjoyment
In fact, it takes my time
Make no mistake though
Excellence is the word not disturbance.

Maker of many wonderful memories
As it feeds me with a story
Never shall I forget
Great things allure those who read
At the sight of the magic of artists.

Premium Member A Love For Anime and Manga

There is a lilt to their eyes, a sassy to their attitude.
They know themselves well, drawn in living color.
Alive, dancing through their day, being admired greatly.
Characters who are not afraid to be themselves.

A trusty funny sidekick always building up the heroine
Who falls in love with the prince who is pretending to be regular.
Wanting her for her love of his soul, not for her love of money.
Their hair has a certain dash and flair not found in other drawings.

Their eyes have the little white circles enhancing their black centers.
There is a certain way they have to be drawn, a pattern, approved.
Their clothes are always pretty much the same. How do they do it?
How do they manage to make lines turn into a fantastical reality?

With just a few lines, the animator has thrown me into a new world.
A place to escape from my troubles, woes, and humdrum stuff.
For a little bit I am dancing and prancing through my hero's eyes,
In her body, or his, doing what I have always imagined doing.

This escape is like meditation for others, maybe prayer even.
I am in the throes of the escapade, and cannot hear my family.
My friends know not to try and get my attention. I am in the zone.
Anime and manga both intrigue and uplift my soul daily.

I Wanna End Me

I Wanna End Me

It’s chill dawg. I’m just a savage. Gotta take that redpill homie. Two squared. Remember the illusion and have a giggle. No need to pout. It’s just a lil fun and games. Haha. Paint me like one of your Trojan horses. Why be sad that I’m returning home soon? Big bad voodoo daddy. Let me know. New Orleans. It’s likely that I’m a sociopath. But what would it matter? Chairs don’t sit, so why would I let the thought do so?

Mcguffins. Pilgrims. Plow rainbow serpentine. Turps. Wax on, doze off. I wanna kiss Billie Eilish. Her dead inside look matches my ensuite. Reckon she’d carry a lot of Bilbo baggage. As do thee unto mishaps. Perhaps. Hmm. Plausible. Ocean endeavours. Funny to think she’s younger than me. Origami. Murmur more peasant.

No board here. Rest easy mudblood. Whichever jumbo cup, always worth the diabeetus. Science, beach. Card master rates, deep down low. Don’t watch on acid. Reads palsy palms. Muster the leap of faith. Sow the famine field of bliss. Certified manga madness. Mango? Two for five dollars. Get like forty of em’. Fiddy bucks. Lez go. Who the hell are ya? I wanna know. Who do you think you are? Coming round here. Fancy pants.

Route 66 roadtwister? I don’t think so mister. Haha. Fly away. Debate the ways of the flying dutchman. Fly over yonder with thou stout in hand. Bound for the beasts riches in tires. Burnt rubber smells so good, not as good as keytamine. Tammy you little dinglebat. Rest easy little nymph. Driftking stands for doorokrats. Laundries. Coin? Denary. Tugboat the infestation. Retribution. Mortify. Grrrrr. That’s a growl. I don’t care. Zoo wee mumma. Throw that little Rat in a tub of acid. That’s nuts.

Inner Shaman

Now of New Age, I am a fan,
I communed with my healing man,
I relaxed, breathed, because I can,
Yes! I communed with my soul's shaman,
He appeared, by my psychic side,
At last, I met my inner guide,
But, you see, it was lunchtime,
Hunger pains panged inside,
Who is this messenger guide?
I asked, yearning deep, besides,
Yes! I did commune with my inner shaman,
Unfortunately, his name is Manga!
Let's do lunch,
End of hunch!

Girl In the Painting

(A BIT OF BACKGROUND: The poem's persona is viewing a well-loved manga painting of a stately but abandoned old home, featuring an ethereal young girl who looks sad, and a number of half-hidden specters. This sonnet seeks to express the persona's longing for the painting to become a living, moving scene that can be influenced.)

Milady May, if I could make you real
I'd cast a dreamer's spell on this tableau
Of light and magic, make the people know
The range of things a girl like you would feel.

We'd make the people wonder why the tears
Silent-shed beneath the blossom tree.
We'd have them scanning every inch to see
What trials have made you older than your years.

They'd raptly seek for evidence and crave
Some promise of what is and isn't true,
Some hope of future happiness for you,
Some hint why you're at once both sad and brave.

These ghosts and beasts, the show they'll try to steal.
We'll hint at clues, for now, we must conceal.

Remember Ruben

REMEMBER RUBEN
Sons of peasants
Insolent and craving
For Grandeur, nay for
Moneys
Trampling to death,
Proud, oh! Too proud
To see death beside
Just waiting the
Hour.

Sons of
Officers and officials
Pale, empty, worldly
Certificates at shaky hand
Oubliettes, wine and whores
They prefer to our flags
And behind they lag, rank
Commandoes
Devouring and
Devoured
Forgetting the killing
Diseases
Aids!

Senegalese riflemen
Chadians of early sacrifices
Heroes of the resistance
Past warriors
Who for freedom died
Here or there
Remember Ruben,
Ouandié Ernest
Manga Bell
Martin Paul Samba
Félix Roland Moumié
Njoya
Ahidjo
Who said that these
Were not brave?
Let new heroes emerge
From the North
In Fotokol
And Kolofata
Let heroes come home
Singing our national anthem
O thou land of our fathers!
