Best Hurls Poems
(Dedication: For Dave Wood)
Do follow feel, do simple write;
Align your flow, align your say;
Voice lines that heal, voice verse that cite;
Echo fond glow, echo fond stay.
Watch feelings surge, watch intent spur;
Opt for plain smile, opt for clear poise;
Options emerge, options recur;
Deed springs fine style, deed hurls fond voice.
Passion greets choice, passion meets peer;
Offer to cast, offer to soar;
Endow your voice, endow your cheer;
Trust first and last, trust tact and oar.

Ash - grey chemised
she shifts her shape
as silver flakes float coat
stripped naked places,
sheath curves and angled spaces
Angry glitter tingle stings
thick earth skin with prickly flames
and rumble rise regurgitates
shimmy - shake shudders
in magma's deep thrombosis.
Her feather boa plume
tightens hot cloud chokehold,
acrid smoke flung up in air
without a care, heat exhumes
her arrival, announced fiery flounce -
Hot air blast flicks ash everywhere
Grande dame, her vital force runs hot,
and bold, red and gold- full blooded flow,
feisty fight to escape fate,
inner pulses push a violent urge
to bleed and drape red lava's cape
across green fields, human habitations
Unplacated, rising up, proud impairment
anger virulent, out of hellbent
immolation via pyramidal vent.
She lifts her tiara, red ruby globs,
hurls evidence in defense - great blobs
of royal reign - no abdication!
Throaty roars rend intonation
into screeching supplications -
She knows full well, soon enough,
her phoenix fate infarction
Too late for earth's burst heart
High drama is a living, dying art
Impassioned pleas too late for some,
Earth's burnout buries victims in her wake
High on an island hill,
the boy lay crushed, and still
on temple altar, throat cut, bled out
Hurried offering, did not appease,
nor bring softening release
for angry, ancient mountain
Head caved in by falling blocks
of measured, square cut stone,
the priest grovelled on his knees
Gravel filled their mouths, no space for pleas
No one heard half- whispered final groans
And Earth, once she settled down,
murmured not another sound

______________________________________________________________
The bulbs hum with color in this off-white cube.
I move slowly, to catch the glimpse that's doob.
I wobble and drift through the sails of my mind.
Searching for peacefulness in this sleepless rind.
Outside forces can feel remote and far away.
I stalk a distant star within walls that can sway.
My body may be scarce but my mind may soar.
Uncover the cosmos of notions that we ignore.
Photonic pairs of notions dance in my head.
I sink to extreme depths where whim led.
Fade, disappear, oh weariness and despair!
Since I'd prefer to leave this insomniac affair.
I pursue my goals with faith as my guide.
With the dreamless embryonic night ride.
Sleep disorders may be outside my grasp.
I roam this frantic realm, lacking the clasp.
In the cracks of my ambiguity, ideas whirl.
With each raw hint, my commitment hurls.
I'm a phony hero, a fallow shambling traveler.
I'm still finding my own advice in this dark battler.

Renegades Foreva!
Renegade teenage rage babes
thinkin’ they all grown, all knowin’
when they seedlin’s barely sown
bleedin’ teenage angst with teenage crankst
always rhymin’ and mis-timin’ some poetry-crimin’
mis-mashin', diss-bashin'
word-clashin' song
heard on some half-sappy, sex-happy,
yap-rap, smack-attack vid
made by some brotha who’s just anotha
angry angst-ridden
wannabe gangsta kid
With a street beat
they be hummin’ or singin’ along
repeatin’ the deceit
not knowin’ curse verses
are just plain wrong and mostly maligin’
while grownups in earshot
takin’ all them swearshots
wishin’ them words had sweeter rhymin’
or that kids be more discreet
would take their claptrap,
no-class, crass-crack lyrics
and just tweet ‘em or mime ‘em
But if ‘dults could go back, meet themselves
when they was punk teens
fittin’ into pre-shrunk his or her hunk jeans
listenin’, partyin’ to poppin’ rockin’
unusual musical junk boy band scenes
and lettin’ out star-struck
super-charged
groanal hormonal
no-one-could-understand gland screams
then they’d be amused ya know,
might change their views ya know
cause remind ‘em not so pristine
when child and ‘dult they was in-between
Kids always lookin’ to find
who they are and who they be
imprisoned involuntarily
in their youthful penitentiary
no matter what century they be from you see
So if thinkin’ rap sucks cause
it’s just no-class hurls and low-class slurs
then fire-up that flux capacitor of yours,
head back to yo’ past and meet yo’ younger him or hers
see your own rebelling mis-teen-stakes
then rapping notions you might reshape
or rapping judgments remake
or least maybe now tolerate new-age teenage
rapping outbreaks and in-yo-face ear-quakes
realizin’ that come whateva or wheneva
that all teens now, before an’ where-eva
will evamore and eva be
natural renegades foreva!

Haiku
When skies are grey and clouds are weeping,
Lightning hurls its fiery thorn,
Reach for the stars behind the clouds,
There shines a sun beyond the storm.
Beyond the clouds the sun is reigning
In its ceaseless majesty,
Clouds will pass and then at last
The sun will be set free...
Just to shine on you, to light your darkened road,
To warm you and comfort you, and help you bear your heavy load.
When all our days are dark and lonely,
When our nights are filled with fear,
If our tomorrows cast anxiety,
Our yesterdays shed a tear,
If our hearts are cold and rainy,
When the storms are hard to bear,
Let’s look beyond today's dark clouds,
The Son is waiting there...
Just to smile on us, to light our darkened road,
To warm us and comfort us, and help us bear our heavy load.
Beyond the clouds unfolds a sunrise
That would not be half as beautiful without the clouds.
“They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory” (Matthew 24:30)

Lyric
Bouncing up with gratitude
my heart leaps midst jubilant beat
rising to praise God* for His blessings
overtaking me this New Year.
Propelled by the Holy Ghost
my faith strides steadfastly
ascending along trust’s push
to triumph midst obstacles.
Advancing the Saviour’s kingdom
my spirit promotes righteousness
surmounting hatred with His forgiveness
gripped by love’s transforming drive.
Plunging in prayer to overcome gripping selfishness
my soul serves the Lord with His might
reaching-out to others in compassion
lifting the needy, propped by care’s zest.
Vanquishing skeptic doubts
my mind hurls negative thoughts
to prevail through Scriptures’ assurance
and zoom toward worship bliss.
Empowered by Christ Who leads
my life accelerates in His control
since He upholds me by His grace
hoisting me from sin-downfall.
*Psalm 86:12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.

POIGNANT ECHOES 2
(Combo Mixed Verse Forms**)
Dark canopy, skyline deep black;
Morn suddenly flings radiance back.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Dawn hurls
Fiery outburst;
Shadows flee
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Sparrow bird song, balcony choir;
Arise to morn with fresh new eyes;
Psalm sweet and strong, salutes day's sire;
Purge thoughts forlorn, explore new highs.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Awake
Aware now
Feel bold endow
Wakefulness enlightens
Feeling
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Feel
Thought
Feeling
Touch once more
Surging whirlpool tracks
Going around mulberry bush
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
So here we glow
Around the swirls;
Churn fast and slow
In world that twirls.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Be of good cheer for love stays near
To deny fear that tempts us here.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Look up and see truth and beauty;
See what must be joy laid plenty;
See things fondly with ecstasy.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Listen now,
A voice calls
From deep within;
Style takes a hint,
Fill your blank page.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Flash of new day in a spreadsheet;
Plus or minus is but a choice;
Do what you say with your cheat sheet.
Know your finest in style of voice;
Smart works kindest in street-smart poise!
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Ask and align
See sensuous signs
Keepsake knows kind

Verse
I like the wind
when it flutters
and flaps bed sheets
hung out on a line -
I like how it sweeps
patterns across fields
of tall grass and sends
whispers through
the trees.
I like to see
its breath billowed
in coloured sails
blown across the bay,
and how, in might,
it hurls clouds
of seaspray
high into the air.
But most of all
I like the wind
when it is all done
and curls up
into a drowsy calm
and falls asleep
under a warm
afternoon sun.

Cheer knows
The way,
Love shows
Each day.
Joy thrills
Each step,
Hope wills
Mind map.
Poise sums
Fond trip,
Faith comes
Glimpse grip.
Grace grooms
Fine feel,
Light blooms
Wise will.
Touch hurls
Bliss here,
Heart swirls
Bright cheer.
Taste zest
Right now,
Know quest
Somehow.
Time moves
So fast,
Chimes groove
The past.
Go forth
With grace,
True north
You trace.
In time
You see,
Lost rhymes
Set free.
Dare be
A man,
True spree
You can.
The end
Must come,
Wise can
Now sum.
The way
You live,
The play
Soul gives.
Right here
Love all,
Heed cheer
That calls.

When we first met I liked you from the very start
Realizing once we got together we would never be apart
We became so close real fast just you and me
It was like we were truly meant to be
You said that together we would conquer the world
But instead you took my life through a whole bunch of hurls
You try’d cheating me out of my life you see
Then you became such a great mystery to me
Causing me to give up not wanting to continue to fight
You told me to lie, you told me to steal
It’s ok you said I’ve gotcha’ you for real
I lost my dignity to you and to me
Came real close to losing my life and my family
The time has come to say goodbye
No matter how much pain I feel I no longer have reasons to die
I’m going to live happy and to stay drug free
Living my life for God my church and my family
Satan you may as well just give on up and move out the way
Cause God has the final vote over my life now and He says I’m here to stay
I hate you now with all my heart
And guess what?
I am not going to fall all apart
God has me right where I’m supposed to be
Crack cocaine you no longer have that strong hold over me
God has given me the strength to bury you for good
After the last 32 years we spent together in da hood
I thank you God for stepping in right on time
Thanking you for not letting me compeletly lose my mind
I need you Lord to keep your firm hold on me
So I can stand strong up against satan and his army
I say goodbye to once a very close friend
The time is come that I take control of my life once again.
Galatians 5:1
Stand fast therefore in the liberty where with Christ hath made
us (me) free, and be entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Alliteration
Night draws out like a long, sharp blade.
Keen edged, it carves its image upon a
black-ink sky. As iron sharpens iron, the
knife hurls glowing planets and stars
upon the deep.
A soft-faced moon of soapstone,
is the sharpening tool upon which the
knife's edge beckons light into the darkness.
Its opaque face is the focal point of all the
twinkling entities illuminating a quilted darkness.
Each night's sharp-honed edge is a memory
to hold in the mind's eye. The spark thrown
stars and stone-faced, silent moon remind us
of the unrelenting friction our earth must feel
hurtling resolutely through an endless void.
Night, like a long blade draws out from dusk
until the dawn again cracks with morning light.

A Fisherman’s Tale
Out o’gloom, her pale siege comes to menace our humble dwell
I look to celeste fix, yet no stark smile to traverse me
So I grip my girl, now graceful, as she slides in churn swell
My girl’s effete bones shiver, I hold hand tight, she begs flee
‘No my love’, so steel she plough’s on fierce, ice slapping her cheeks
I plea for celeste fix!.... yet no stark smile to traverse me
Enraged, her howls come screaming! shakes my lass ‘till skin comes weak
I say ‘be farer my girl’, shy, she tries turn forth our scow
‘No my love!’.... so bold she ploughs on fierce, ice slapping her cheeks
Her fury hurls, first flot then ice floe… splints… fly from loves brow!
Marred…. lets cry! bones cleft, I whisper ‘we have each other now’
I say ‘be brave my girl’, so steel, she try’s keep float our scow
I slide aged hand across my beautiful salt licked bough
Out o’gloom, her pale siege came, broke apart our humble dwell
Marred tried ‘vain, bones cleft, I whispered…. ‘we have forever now’
So I sooth my love…. now peaceful…. as we slide in churn swell.
