Never had a Christmas tree
  or some mistletoe
No wreath of holly on my door
just a mezuzah there, you know

No stockings stuffed with candy canes
  or Christmas decorations
Never sang a hymn to Jesus
  Torah's my inspiration

Yet just as Christians can appreciate
  the flames of Chanukah lights
So too can a Jew like me
  sense magic Christmas night

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to all my soup friends
It’s been a challenging year and hope the pandemic soon ends
Hope you are all healthy and happy and not feeling too blue
We all enjoy the flavors of soup until someone stirs up the stew

Jan still entertains with her masterpieces and poems about poo
Mark’s words continue to protect us with his wise poems so true
Constance writes many beauties with creative heartfelt lines
Victor never disappoints with his romantic poems so divine

Andrea and Gina, enjoy a good challenge, their poems are on point
Alexis’s, Anne-Lise's and Maureen’s poems never disappoint
Ed, Paul, Tom, Charles and Richard add nice flavors and spice
It's a pleasure to read their soup poems, fancy words to entice

Jenna is a talented newbie; her words warm up the soup
I am so grateful for the support of many in this group
I hope for a happy and healthy new year for you all
Let's keep writing, being supportive while having a ball!

My poem would be pages to name every one I enjoy on the site
You are not forgotten and your poems are gems of pure delight
There are many more names not listed that I appreciate and adore
Keep writing your poems, adding to the soup and season it more

HOLIDAYS-- Cinqku

Midnight
black Friday
turkey burping
tryptophan tornado

Church bells
echoing
remembrances

Holidays Are

HOLIDAYS ARE...
     Times when families get together,
it can be in Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter weather.

HOLIDAYS ARE...
Days filled with relaxation and rest,
and all the feasting that is only the best.

HOLIDAYS ARE...
     Days for the enjoyment,
of not having to go to our employment.

HOLIDAYS ARE...
A gift for children for as a rule,
it's a day when they don't get up for school.

HOLIDAYS ARE...
A time of laughter heard in the trees,
or the aroma of barbecue wafting on the breeze.

HOLIDAYS ARE...
Memories of those no longer here,
and all the times they brought us cheer.

HOLIDAYS ARE...
When some are thrilled by colorful presents,
but are a better gift because of our family's presence.

HOLIDAYS ARE...
     The year's gifts of giving,
for us taking part in our daily living.

HOLIDAYS ARE...
Nearly upon us again, and they bring us a tear too,
because we love you and wish we could share them with you.

HOLIDAYS ARE...
Truly, a present from God above,
presented through His Son, bestowing on us His gracious love.

Anticpating the Thrill of the Holidays

Nippy air bites the skin, sunlight trails off in a sky so morose;
bare trees contemplate the yellow grass below mourning their lost splendor;
be that messenger of the Season's Greetings and avoid being sad and alone...
welcome to my holiday home at this special time of the year!

Assist me in decorating the pine-scented and candle-lit rooms ,
of my lair; please, come in and accept my hospitality with ardor;
let's chat over dinner and sparkling wine until darkness looms...
welcome to my holiday home at this special time of the year!

Anticipate the thrill of the Holidays with a big smile spreading cheer:
dream of snow, of Santa riding his sleigh from the cold North Pole;
he'll remember every good kid who has shown obedience and grace...
welcome to my holiday home at this special time of the year!

I looked for a Christmas Tree crossing the snowy boardline,
searching the nearest forest for the tallest, prittiest one
with the help of neighbors who had a good will and no fear...
welcome to my holiday home at this special time of year!

So much I will share and learn this Holiday Season announcing a divine birth
to the Earth below brightened by candles, twinkling lights and mirth;
admire my decorations of garlands and golden bells to make you merrier...
welcome to my Holiday home at this very special time of year!

Family, friends and neighbors gather around this fireplace that will bewilder us,
let's remember the wonderful birth of our Savior Jesus, who came to visit us;
hear the song of the angels echoing through the chilly air...
welcome to my holiday home at this special time of year!

The icicles that grow for years
and slowly cry then drop and die
in liquid pools of frozen tears.

The pain that builds within a lie;
lives that wait for want of love
and slowly cry then drop and die.

Prayers for kind hearts undreamt of
in a world of cold despair;
lives that wait for want of love.

No shelter from the winter air -
longing for a warm embrace
in a world of cold despair.

Where they're gone without a trace,
hopes that freeze before they drip,
longing for a warm embrace.

From this world they gladly slip -
the icicles that grow for years;
hopes that freeze before they drip
in liquid pools of frozen tears.

It's that time of year-
Holidays are near!
First will come Thanksgiving Day;
families all meet-
round the table, eat!
Thankfully, join hands and pray.

Then, comes Christmastime!
Happy bells soon chime
welcoming peace and goodwill.
Sharing gifts with love;
thanking God above
for these blessings which fulfill!

Home Anywhere For the Holidays

The bright Christmas lights on my city house are so colorful and traditional,
hopefully when I get my high utility bill I won't become too irrational,
and watching everyone open up their gifts makes me want to sigh,
also hoping that when I get the credit card bills I won't start to cry,

And the Christmas room has edible fumes of the eating variety kind,
with the holiday weight I gain ending up in my butt and thighs,
while getting a white Christmas is something I always wished for,
but not slipping on the slippery steps when walking out the front door,

A different group of Christmas carolers singing out front in my yard,
all of them sounding very off key like a cat getting strangled,
and not having money to give them gave them some pie I baked,
most of them getting sick from it Betty Crocker I aint,

Going Christmas shopping and getting stuck in the holiday traffic,
and trying to find a parking spot at the mall was really quite baffling,
having to sit there and wait till I saw a shopper getting ready to leave,
another car beat me to the spot while I sat there and sneezed,

So I decided to move far away from the hustle and the bustle,
wheres all I have to worry about is what is that woodland noisy rustle,
could be a black bear, coyote, wolf or a moose,
and when I get my mail every day have to run so they don't bite my big caboose,

But thats ok I'm starting to feel at home for the holidays in the hills,
getting used to the 8 foot snow drifts and the night time animal shrills,
while getting into my vehicle can be quite an ordeal,
running like a fugitive till I get inside of it in my camouflage gear,

But I have a plan B just in case living in the hills doesn't all work out,
I'll just move to Florida where the humidity and big bugs will bother me no doubt,
where I'll buy my own little house hopefully sinkhole free and keep it fumigated,
and pretend to have a white Christmas even though its 85 degrees out while getting chased by an alligator.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Premium Member Santa Limerick and Santa Jokes For The Holidays

Santa, weighed four hundred lbs at his yearly check up.
"The Kids bribe me Dr, with Burgers, fries and ketchup."
Dr said, " That's a lame excuse,
your eating habits, you abused!"
"Doc, the reindeer are mad, I'm too fat, and they can't take off!"

Why don't you see Santa in the Hospital, because he has private elf care?

Why was Santa's little helper so sad, because he had low elf esteem?

How much did Santa's sleigh cost, it was on the house?

What kind of motorcycle does Santa ride, A Holly Davidson?

What do you call a kid that doesn't believe in Santa, a rebel without a Claus?

How can you sense Santa is real, you can always sense his presents?

Why is Santa afraid of Chimney's, cause he is Claus-trophobic?

What is Santa's favorite potato chips, Kringles?

What do Santa's elf's learn in school, the elf-abet?

Premium Member Preparing For the Holidays

Christmas eaves’ drop - red and green leaves of pre-December.
The snow-white clouds, the beard of Santa Claus’ pre-remember.
The elves are surely hammering
whilst Mrs. Claus is yammering.
The yawning of maples and oaks ‘fore their pre-sugar-plum dream.
Boughs with wrappings held high in the pre-burr of holiday theme.
The silver bells are jingling
whilst Mrs. Claus is mingling.
The squirrels gathering chestnuts - heading for the pre-open fire.
This is the time of cheer when old white men are on pre-hire.
Elves in the North Pole, serious
whilst Mrs. Claus is merrily delirious.
Milk, cookies, hot chocolate - cupped, shaped, pre-bakes.
The crisp, grim, lake of late Autumn leaves, Daddy rakes.
From bed, whoops an early “ho-ho-ho!”
whilst Mrs. Claus helps Santa glow.

My room is a mess - it's an archaeological record of boredom.
Christmas, Christmas, come on Christmas.
It's 4 days 'til Christmas. Why don't I go to my room and do NOTHING??

The clock ticking sounds like a large horse clomping over cobble stones.
Last year there were wall-to-wall parties - so many that you had to carry a change of clothes with you.

In 2020 there's nothing to do - but I don't have to tell YOU (my reader). Except for the whole school thing. Nothing to do but study. I read, on that webber-net thing that 38% of students are failing.

Because of the pandemic - oh, not that virus monster - the boredom pandemic - the London-tower-lonely state of slow-motion distress that’s invisibly gripped us all.

Can we hold on people? The hard-won, delicious truth is that there’s hope. Vaccines - a bunch of 'em. Is it possible to let worries go this season and simply treasure our lives?

Just this month we have or had Hanukah, Kwanza, Festivus.
Hopefully, you made wild, monkey-love on December 14th - that was "International Monkey Day" - I couldn't join you - of course - but I'm just sayin. =]

Look it up - almost every day is some kind of celebration or invent your own - if Ice Cream Day, Lemon Cupcake Day, Go Caroling Day or Crossword Puzzle Day don't do it for ya.

The important gifts, this year, are fun, attention and love.

Premium Member Not All Holidays Are Happy

As we navigate the waters of life…for many of us the holidays are a joyous time…we smile and say, “Let the joy begin!”
But for others, who are remembering someone they lost…the holidays are when sorrow comes flooding in.

The flood waters begin to rise as they are reminded of a death…
and they wonder, “How long will I be underwater?
How long do I have to hold my breath?”

And though they know, in their hearts, like all other floods…this one, too, will end…they, once again, begin to wonder…if their broken heart will ever mend.

As they swim in the memories of the person they miss…the person they loved…and needed…they wonder how will they repair the damage…once the waters have receded.

But they will rebuild the say way they always do…each time there is a flood…each time they are reminded of their pain…by starting to notice the little things in life that make them happy…like the sky after a rain.

Like how sunlight paints the dawn…like the beauty in a drop of morning dew…and when they begin to hear the laughter of family and friends…they know they’ll make it through…

There is no time limit on sadness…and it may take a while….but eventually they begin to remember…all those things that make them smile.

And the more they remind themselves of the pleasures in their life…
the less they think about the pain…
a skill they will find useful…
when the waters rise again.

Holidays Together

We stand tall next to each other,
in the choir before Our Lord.
We are happy to sing,
for Him…

We are humble
that are voices,
raised to lift the roof,
high,
off the old church,
and allow,
heaven to see…
inside.

The angels fill the rafters.
Abigail will lead.
All the rest will follow.
She is 90,
but can still…
hold a note.

Listen carefully,
as you walk by.
They will ask you in,
if you linger.
The front row,
the back row,
or hidden
somewhere
in the middle,
all of us…,
(including you)

family.
